Only affects lower undead burg, not the Taurus part. You'd probably want the large ember, no?

Yep. Thanks I'll be doing that next.

how the hell did I not know till now...my 5th play through that there was a bonfire behind an illusionary wall in Lost Izalith!

The amount of grief I had before beating this boss getting kicked in the holes and running back all the way from the bonfire after the centipede demon. I hate myself.

Are the black knights weapons (sword and halberd) one of the strongest weapons when upgraded to +5? Found the last in the tomb of the giants, fuck that place was annoying for me, even with the sunlight helm, and I killed Patches because he pissed me off.

If you have at least 14 Intelligence you can also buy the Cast Light spell from Dusk. I rather like it as a light source on account of it not taking up the shield slot and not requiring me to put a bug on my head.

I have 60 Intelligence and 7 slots so I think this is the way I'd like to proceed. Where can I find this Dusk who sells the spell?

Took down Seath mostly using my magic. I was surprised that he took so much damage from it. I had brought a phantom but he mostly just kept him busy. I also managed to get the tail sword but it's not like I'll use it.

So now I have a +5 enchanted spear, one +5 fire one that I'll upgrade to Chaos once I get to Kiln, and the entire range of spells. Feels good.

Are you liking it the more you play it or less?

I was liking it more but I can't say I'm a fan of the archives and what I've done of crystal cave so far. Also I took a small trip into tomb of giants since I was right there after beating Pinwheel and I hate how dark it is even with the lantern. But I like the game better than I did when I tried to play it months ago.

The Demon Firesage I had trouble with last time? Beat it pretty easily today. While carrying way too much weight around so rolling wasn't any kind of an option and my walking speed was a crawl. Go figure.

The Centipede Demon fight was such crap. I can't see what I'm fighting and what the thing is doing, because the screen is just a mess of graphics combined with a shitty framerate. Running away from the creature so it wouldn't be in my face and I could actually see anything isn't an option, because there's no room in here at all due to lava, and if I take steps away from the thing it will just jump on me again. So the fight consisted of the screen being filled with random colours and two lifebars randomly depleting due to unknown reasons.

And then AFTER beating it you get a ring that lets you run around in the lava, which would have made the fight into... an actual fight. Argh. I beat the thing pretty easily thanks to my Black Knight Greataxe <3, but seriously, this was bad.

Peeked inside Lost Izalith, went noooooope at like 4 different things and went to the Duke Archives instead. That place is cool. The bit after your first meeting with Seath was probably supposed to be creepy what with the blue tentacle monsters and music and all, but my Black Knight Greataxe (<3) killing everything there in one shot ruined the mood a little bit.

Also got invaded after I kindled a bonfire. The invader stood at a distance and was charging up some magic. I sprinted towards him and smashed him into the ground with the first hit and killed him before he could stand up.

I really love this axe.

In terms of pure physical damage, yes. Especially the greataxe. That thing is a wrecking ball for PvE.

The Barded Straight Sword drops from Thorn Knight, right? Where he is? I have probably seen him already :) I tried to check the wiki but the search isn't working.

Where do you come across Kirk? Does he drop the barbed sword when you kill him?

If you're human in the depths, demon ruins and lost izaleth, he invades you all three times and you have to kill him all 3 times. Then apparently his gear is found in Quelaags domain.

That sword is the best weapon in the game for mages, though. Insane scaling and pure magic damage means no split resistances to worry about.

Yeah, at 60 Int right now that sword is beastly for me. Then when I want to switch to range, I have all my spells and throw in the tin crystallization catalyst and the ring that boosts sorcery and I feel like a walking God.

Hmm that sounds juicy. I think during NG+ I am going to concentrate on leveling my Faith so I can use the Tin Csystallation catalyst. I can't buff very well at the moment as the only magic Ive used in the game is my Pyro glove which is now maxed.

So yeah, while I wuv the gameplay in Dark, does the story ever become even a little more pronounced. I know it's up to alot of interpretation but still...

I dunno, at this point, while I dig the gameplay in Dark, I preferred the world/plot of Demon's alot more. I mean, I couldn't even tell you the basic plot of Dark without having to look it up =(

From's storytelling is influenced by Japanese porn....lots of teasing but no happy ending.

60INT? insanity. Isn't the difference from 50-60 really tiny?

If you want to use the tin crystalization catalyst, or any catalyst for that manner, you want to level your INT, not FAI. Catalysts = sorceries, talismans = faith miracles.

Going the INT route will let you use crystal magic weapon, and going the FAI route will let you use either sunlight blade or darkmoon blade (need to be in the darkmoon covenant for DMB).

I didn't really see anything else I wanted to keep putting points towards. I don't need more than 7 slots. My health and endurance are fine (especially with that ring equipped which raises both by a percentage). My strength and Dexterity are both at the exact level I need them at to use the Moonlight Greatsword. I figured even though it won't raise the amount of damage I do by a ton, it still raises it slightly so I just keep pumping points into Int. Usually when I want something dead in a hurry, it dies. I was two shotting each of the 4 Kings.

Hmmm, I haven't upgraded the Moonlight Greatsword fully but it doesn't have that much in terms of stats. On the other hand I'm comparing with maxed out chaos, divine and enchanted spears. The thing is, I haven't planned on getting any Dragon Scales anytime soon.

And now I have three characters sitting at Kiln. I actually managed to win a duel while I was farming on the sorcerer, but I'm still not a fan of PVP.

I'm a Dex character and I'm using the grass crest shield right now. But I just picked up the Silver Knight shield and it seems better in terms of defense by quite a bit. Which do you all recommend? The buff is nice but I'm not sure....

Keep in mind I do both pve and pvp

Grass crest shield is one of the best IMO.
But it depends of the situation. In PvE when you need serious blocking, go for Eagle Shield and if you want a protection against fire, the BK Shield is the one to go.
But definitely in PvP/many of boss battles go for grass crest shield for the buff.

Decided to start over as a Pyromancer and HOLY SHIT! This class is fucking awesome! Already beat all the bosses and the Gaping Dragon without dying so far.

Anything (that's what dark souls is about) but Wanderers are set for a Dexterity build.

You'll get about 9~10 per playthrough, and then you can either farm for more or do Dragon Covenant pvp for more. You need ten to fully upgrade it.

The pure numbers at max upgrade isn't going to be as high as elemental weapons, but actual damage dealt to enemies will be on par or higher as you go up in levels, simply because the damage isn't getting cut down by multiple resistances.

Yeah! I beat the Lord of Cinder, that asshole! Died so many times trying to finesse my way through the fight, like I did the rest of the game. That wasn't working, so a friend of mine suggested I do parry and riposte against him, and maximize my defense as best I could. Did that, and kicked his ass. Used the Chaos Knife with the Hornet's Ring to maximize damage. Only took three parry/riposte and he was dead. Bitch.

Edit: Loved the boss music for that fight, though.

I kind of want to take a break from my main character and make a magic character but I just don't understand how it works at all. Every spell only has a certain number of uses? What happens when you run out, does the spell vanish or can you recharge it at a bonfire?

I did that, made a second character to take a break from the final boss for a bit. Went with magic/strength.
Each spell has a limited number of uses, and is recharged when you rest at a bonfire.

Oh ok that's not too bad I guess, thanks.

Yeah I'm getting a little burned out on these later areas so I figured why not try something new.

Oh ash lake. How I hated everything about you. Getting there, staying there, getting back. *sigh*.

Yeah I normally don't keep a lot but things were going smoothly in that place and I was going to wait until the next bonfire (which is like right after the event. Nice troll). I was going to use it on some crafting before leveling up 2-3 times since every one costs about 30k for me now.

But yeah I got back up to 30k pretty fast without using any bonus souls. Still pretty pissed about that though.

I realize it is very difficult, particularly if you don't know where yuou are going, but you can get back to that room and collect your souls...I did it by accident one time as an experienced player...but of course I knew the event was coming after my first run and as such did not bring anything of great value, so there wasn't much to collect that time regardless.
once you get out of jail, if you choose to ignore other things to do there (you can come back later) you kill the two manserpents, and three or four crystal hollows after the top of the ladder (go all the way to the left back in the main room of the archives, and at least one or two Channerlers and you are back at the lilft to the spot.
it will take some ingenuity to get the remote control staircases to align right though, and you MAY need ot go all the way to the bottom (next bonfire before caves) depending on if you figure out the staircase issue properly.

Hot damn

Thanatos has been kicking this game a new one.
http://www.twitch.tv/lthanatosl

32:47...quite possibly the world record.

(Yeah it's glitched)

He's planning on doing non-glitched runs sometime soon.

Yeah, really impressive, I hope we do see more non-glitched runs because speedrunning the back half of the game is even more impressive and fun to watch.

Indeed. He says he's done with running glitched so I'm really looking forward to the full game attempts.

Yeah while I was exploring that somewhat confusing library area I found my way back to the area but I had died again already so the 100k souls were gone :(

On the other hand playing as a sorcerer is pretty awesome! I'm 1 shotting all of the undead guys in the 1st area.

I was co-oping with a stranger, and we got invaded. We kill the invader, and the host uses rude gestures to taunt him. I was tempted to warp out of there and leave him.
Guy seems generally nice, though. Sent me a message asking if I'd like to join him in Lost Izalith.
Competitive gaming must make most western gamers douchebags, I guess.

that is impressive of course as they so indeed have more health and attack power than regular undead, and can be very annoying and conniving with their bows etc.!!!

I'm going to make the Great lord Greatsword

Also, what bosses should I avoid to keep it PVP active.
Taurus is the most important one. Other than him, there's Sif, Priscilla, and the Centipede Demon. If you decide to keep Sif alive, then you'll also want to keep Gwyndolin alive so you have the choice to invade.

How do you skip Taurus? Isn't he mandatory to cross the bridge.

Also.... who the hell is Priscilla...

If you have the master key, then you can go straight to the Valley of the Drakes through the New Londo Ruins. Just take a right after getting off the elevator from Firelink. If you don't have the master key, then you'll need to kill Ingward (guy dressed in red surrounded by ghosts) to get the key to the seal. There's also a way to jump from the Undead Burg to the Lower Undead Burg.

Priscilla is the boss of the the Painted World.

Only reason to cross the bridge is to get to the undead parish, and you can also get there from the other side via darkroot garden. You can get to darkroot garden either by going through the watchtower (where havel is) or through the valley of drakes via new londo. Both require the master key.

Itseems you have devised a plan for when the spell runs out, but it went out on me at the most inopportune times. The sunlight helm is by far the most preferred for me...I always like to max pyro before going too far in the game and enjoy fire weapons, so an early trip to DR is fine in my books....I don't even care that much about avoiding Lost Izalith..............but each their own.

Really wish there was a place that explained what bosses locked out what areas.

I know pretty much for sure there is nothing available in the hollow or ash lake, but you will be able to test areas by whether or not you can drop your sign...It won't allow you to drop in an area that does not have PVP. ONe area you can drop that many don't realize is the passage between the Titanite Demon near Andre and the Door of Artorias..you cna't go through the door to SIF, but it basically is an extention of the area preceding the Butterfly. I am not sure if you can go through the passageway to the Hydra....my guess is not. It makes sense to be able to drop anywhere near SIF though like the cat area. I think Drakes and Hydra is out of bounds IIRC. I am not sure when you can start dropping on your way to NLR. The areas that are not commonly known about are great for meeting your friends...lately I have been able to meet friends easier than in the past...perhaps just more experienced friends (not just me explaining what to do over messaginig all thetime.)

Just experienced the true horror of Blighttown - for the first I was summoned there, the framerate took a big hit, then the host summoned another helper, more frame drop hell, then a phantom invades, it must've been 2 fps or something!

On that note, what sort of asshole invades in Blighttown? Apologies to anyone that does, but that area is already a nightmare with the framerate, why make it even worse?

Yeah I got invaded there once. My summon was AFk so he killed him then got me.
What a dildo....

I've meant to ask this before but forgot - what are those circles on light in the Catacombs, there's usually one or two in the narrow room with two archer skeletons and a necromancer? They look like the circle that takes you to Anor Londo from Sen's Fortress but don't seem to do anything.

Got a Skull Lantern drop from a necromancer too, didn't know they dropped them.
