Capcom already said they were interested in making a sequel to Revelations. It probably preformed to their expectations.

Well, here is the original article as posted:

http://ds.ign.com/articles/121/1219750p1.html

Nearly two years after it was first announced, Resident Evil Revelations made its way into stores to strong critical and commercial reception. Having an exclusive entry in such a major franchise has only continued to boost the Nintendo 3DS's reception in the global marketplace, but the simple fact is the system will need continuous support of this level in the years to come.

Given the fact that Capcom managed to deliver Revelations as well as Mercenaries 3D inside of the first year of the 3DS's life, and given their reception, we asked producer Masachika Kawata if he saw a future for Resident Evil on the Nintendo 3DS. Did he already have new ideas - and would he be interested in bringing them to full production?

"The incredibly positive fan reaction to Revelations has definitely given me motivation to make another 3DS RE title," Kawata told us in an interview. "I have some ideas in mind. However, I have a lot of other projects that need to be taken care of first."

That might seem like any potential and future Resident Evil projects would be a ways off, right? Not so fast, survival horror fans...

"I must admit," Kawata continued, "Hearing players say how much they enjoyed Revelations does kind of make me want to forget the other projects and get stuck right into making another RE game for fans to enjoy (laughs)."

When we conducted our interview, Revelations had just debuted in Japan and was the #1 selling game in the country. Noting that this game had a more old school, survival horror focus than other Resident Evil games, we asked if this commercial reception encouraged him to continue this approach with future installments.

"Of course!" Kawata told us. "Game development is always a very taxing process, no matter what the project, and the only thing that gets us through is the belief that, at the end of the journey, there are people waiting to enjoy the game. So if a game sells particularly well, then we have good reason to make more titles like it."

Though by no means any sort of official announcement, it sounds as though more Resident Evil on the Nintendo 3DS is certainly a possibility. Capcom managed to produce two games remarkably fast - here's hoping we can get some more just as quickly.

Stay tuned to more from our interview with Kawata-san as well as Revelations director Koshi Nakanishi.

It seems the interview happened before the game released in the West, and was a slightly nebulous interest by the director.

That said, I wouldn't be hugely surprised to see another game, but I don't think this is bulletproof confirmation.

Oh, I don't think it is a guaranteed thing. Just that there is interest there for a sequel.

Plus it gives the impression that Capcom was pleased with the sales of the game in Japan, at least. Now the west, well who knows...

Yeah I mean, I never got the sense that the original intention was to have a standalone product, but hopes of turning it (as well as ORC) into a successful sub series.

That said, I think they're unhappy with Slant Six's quality and unhappy with Revelation's sales, so whatever comes next, I expect to see some changes.

What those changes are (platform choice(s), gameplay style, developer, or perhaps something else) is an interesting open question.

I could see Revelations going multiplatform, in future installments.

Though there are a few problems with that.

Gameplay (It is tailored for handhelds, or relatively short bursts. I don't know how well a straight adaption would work on consoles.)

If Capcom decides to keep it as a handheld series then what would really be the point in going multiplatform, considering how the PSV is preforming right now in Japan. Though if the PSV continues its decent performance in the west maybe it would allow a sequel to reach a bigger consumer group.

There really is no "right" option for Capcom to take with a sequel as anything they do might not work out well, or it might. It will be interesting to see what they decide to do with the franchise in the future.

Despite the creepy premise, Conception genuinely looks awesome and I hope we get it.

Ciel no Surge, uh... creepy seems to be all it has going for it.

wow at the surge of the PSV and a game in the charts. Not doomed?
All Sony HW is up. Did Sony do some kind of marketing blitz?

Seeing ORC performance, I have even less doubts that RE 6 is going the biggest success in Capcom history.

Love the Ciel sales, glad it did well, sad it won't come over. I still have a tiny, tiny hope based on Ar Tonelico being released overseas... but it´s such a different game that I don't think they will bother.

Glad to see both FE & KI are selling very well! Really sad to see that RE:ORC sales are so high It deserved to bomb hard. Happy to see a PSV game selling well!

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Code of Princess is out of the top 50.

...Fu*k, it's true, didn't notice it. Sharpest drop ever? Sharpest drop ever. I fear it was expected: a game with certainly a big drop in the second week, with a 20k first week, and many new releases.

Just to say, last week 20th position was almost 4k, this week it's over 6k. So, in a week with the lowest position of the top 20 like the former, it would have been in top 50 this week...Heck, maybe even in top 30 XD

Not actually that important
Hope Revelation gets a bit of boost for GW. Is such a cool game, and the more I play it the more I enjoy it.
Bummer there's no 3D effect (besides the gun models in fpv and for FMVs), that really irked me.

Code of Princess was a little-advertised title that got eclipsed by Fire Emblem's release. Bad bad timing to release an under-advertised game. Seriously doubt we'll see it chart again, though it could certainly continue to sell under the radar and eventually end @ ~30K or something of that sort.

JJConrad

Sucks at viral marketing
Given what happened in the last three years, next week Nintendo consoles should increase a bit, while Sony ones should decrease.
Next week will favor Nintendo, but 5 years ago, when the dates last aligned, the Sony systems all grew a little. Those were some crazy times back then... Sony was doing about the same as they are now, but we were right in the middle of Nintendomination.

Revelations - 271k LTD (Media Create)

Additional 20k since it left the Top 20 (Week 10).
TAKE THAT!!!... ORC.

That's true. I definitely think we'll see a Top 10 dominated by 3DS games, and possibly a resurgence of older games getting sales bumps.
ORC will likely be the only game blocking a Nintendo Top 10; it could lose 90% of its sales and still land near the top. The more consistent sellers shouldn't see too much more than a 30-50% boost.

Hope Revelation gets a bit of boost for GW. Is such a cool game, and the more I play it the more I enjoy it.

??? I'm confused too. The demo have a very good 3D effect. It's adjustable in the options (as opposed to just using the 3D-slider).

I really wonder how well ORC sales hold up in the coming weeks. Word of mouth for that game can't be good, can it?

I hope it burns and dies a screaming agony and that the return rate is so high Capcom gives everyone a free Resident Evil Revelations!

...doesn't mean its going to happen mind you :p

There's an estimate on Media Create site.
Around 89% for both SKUs

And almost 40% for MP9.

Seems like Capcom shipped the right amount, I don't expect ORC to have any legs.

MP9 will sell its first shipments multiple times, though I'm not sure it'll do anything close to previous entries in the end (it certainly won't sell nearly as well as Wii Party).

I would love such a list as well if it existed, but probably doesn't. :/ Then again usually when SalesGAF is that far off it's because they estimated way too high rather than way too low.

return rate is so high

I see this come up time and time again in mc threads, I know the regulars know this but just wanted to correct:

for videogames, unless the game is physically defective there is no type of return system, the game will just overflow the used bins.

I like how Ciel no Surge sold more than 300% of the average expectation. Is there any list of games which the GAF prediction league was most off on?

Sales-age has a history of under expecting games that are new series and/or extremely Japan-niche based games(girl games, adventure, anime based, light novels etc), not mentioned in the western press.

I'm still amazed Go Vacation keeps charting. Also Theatrhythm dropped like a rock while Project Mirai went up? Oo

Media Create Sales: Week 17, 2012 (Apr 23 - Apr 29)

33./29. [3DS] Hatsune Miku and Future Stars: Project Mirai # <ACT> (Sega) {2012.03.08} (¥6.090)
49./31. [3DS] Theatrhythm Final Fantasy <ACT> (Square Enix) {2012.02.16} (¥6.090)

I'm still amazed Go Vacation keeps charting. Also Theatrhythm dropped like a rock while Project Mirai went up? Oo

Look again. Miku was already above Theatrhythm last week. They both dropped. But yeah, Miku only dropped by 4 positions when Theatrhythm dropped 18 positions. Also, for at least the past 4 weeks, Miku was constantly above Theatrhythm. But both of them were constantly dropping, except Theatrhythm that stayed 2 weeks at the 27th position.
But I wonder what the true numbers are..

Also... Why did RE:R got an update of it's LTD??? Is it normal for them to do this from time to time, updating a random game?

Not actually that important
It definitely has a 3D effect for everything...

Unfortunately not. It just renders with a in-the-box effect 99% of the time. There's no true spacial depth (backgrounds objects over background objects for example) besides some super minor stuff.
Pop in almost every other 3DS games with a similar point of view (MGS, but even Mario Kart would be ok) and check the difference.

edit:
Anyway, I suppose even with golden week boosting numbers is impossible that 3DS will reach 6M at the same time that PS3 clears 8M?

Overall, numbers in Top 50 should be a bit higher than usual, since the 20th position is at 6.239 units, while last week it was at 3.824 units.

THEATRHYTHM dropped a lot but maybe it's just constant, while Hatsune Miku grew a little (let's say, from 2k to 3.5k).
