That was my first thought too. And yeah, that would be impressive. But then I thought about the Elephant in Halo 3, the Sabres in Reach and the dropped idea of controlling a Scarab in New Alexandria and realized it could go a bunch of different ways.

But yeah, War Sphinxes could be cool. All you have to do is read the words and it conjures up sweet imagery.

I've probably noticed and called bullshit but it never really hit me. I just move on with the match. So if you're no shields and get health pack what exactly happens?

Yeah. Personally I do not hope that he meant the vehicles you mentioned. I think the War sphinxes even fit perfectly in the Reclaimer trilogy. As person who saw Leviathan's concept of the War Sphinx, I always thought it would look like this. But I eagerly want to see 343i's design.

I believe you have the same amount of health as when you picked up the pack, but with bleed through, you're pretty much dead if you get 2-3 headshots on you.

So shield health isn't whats fucked up. It's actual body health. Ok, that makes sense now. I remember today an instance where I got health pack and died quickly after getting it. I blamed myself for not waiting for my shields to recharge

:lol no, failed misserably? it's one of Reach's launch playlists with the most healthy population.

It offers a completely different (and crazy) gameplay experience which is what makes it so fun, I still keep discovering new jumps, ledges and routes to defend/attack my objectives.

It's also very fun to play with randoms...

You guys might not know this, but I consider myself a bit of a loner. I tend to think of myself as a one-man wolf pack. But when juices brought Heckfu home, I knew he was one of my own. And my wolf pack... it grew by one. So there... there were two of us in the wolf pack... I was alone first in the pack, and then Heckfu joined in later. And six months ago, when Heckfu introduced me to you guys, I thought, "Wait a second, could it be?" And now I know for sure, I just added a few more guys to my wolf pack. All of us wolves, running around Hemorrhage together, in Forge World, looking for snipers and dongblain. So tonight, I make a toast!

About the whole 'stop boosting' thing, I see only one solution that can actually work, and it won't make me popular by saying it. Then again, I'm not popular.

Just drop ranks altogether. Fuck 'em. Who the fuck needs a symbol or a number in front of their name? Get some heavy trueskill working behind the scenes and keep track of a lot of different shit so you can really match players together. Just don't have a visual indicator for it anymore.

The moment you start using visual indicators, people are going to want the highest, most exclusive one, and they'll start boosting to get it.

I dunno, perhaps you can keep ranks for the ranked playlists. But maybe make 'em like Arena, and make 'em reset every 'season'.

Everyone wants visual ranks. We want to prove how good we are at Halo. It sounds stupid but its just the truth. Without a decent ranking system there's no point in playing competitive at all unless you actually go to events and try and win money from them which only a small handful of people actually get to do.

What about a 'season-based' system like Arena, but spread over all the ranked playlists? Ranks are easier to attain that way and players who are actually good will not really suffer from it, as they'll hit the highest ranks again in no-time. Whereas boosters might get tired of having to re-do everything if they want to keep that '20' or whatever next to their name.

Very much this. I want to know how I stand in relation to everyone else. If my true skill is hidden, I may be getting really competitive games, but I have no idea if that means I'm doing well or not. And without that knowledge, I lose a lot of drive/motivation to compete. What's the point? What am I working for? Players need to have a visible goal in matchaking, and in Halo, that has usually been to get better, with ranking up the way to track your progress.

I'm not a big fan of the way Arena works in Reach, but I do like the idea of having ranks reset periodically, assuming ranks are even in Halo4. Otherwise, the maxed out ranks become stagnant, and the players who can't get any higher feel stuck. This also contributes de-rankers. Having ranks reset periodically would eliminate the Halo3 issue of it becoming increasingly more difficult to rank up after months/years of playing. The game could keep track of your highest rank for each period and be visible for others to see. I think it would keep the game fresh, while not removing the ability to always improve. It just needs to be long enough for players to have a fair amount of time to reach max level.
