BioShock Infinite delayed (February 26th, 2013)

Well shit.

The games I wanted this year were Bioshock, The Last of Us, The Last Guardian and Animal Crossing.

Guess I'll be hitting the backlog. lol

Damn. There isn't any other games I'm looking forward to besides Infinite. Oh well. I encourage them to take their time to polish and create the game to it's fullest potential. I'm expecting Infinite to be this generations defining game, perhaps raising the bar for future generation games as well. My hype is through the roof.

My soul is crushed :(

So strange.. now that this is delayed I think Borderlands 2 will be the only fps I buy this year.

Good. Too many publishers would push out a game just to make the Christmas season.
If the game needs it, delay it. We'll be here when it's ready and we'll most likely get a much better experience as well.

Was looking forward to this game, but a delay is fine with me.

There's plenty of other stuff to play this Christmas season.

If they use that time to make the game better I don't care. Hell if it were up to me every game would get delayed an extra few months.

Take all the time you need Irrational. I'll love the game in February as much as, if not more than, I would have loved it in October.

Now what's the frontrunner for GOTY 2012?

If GTA V either doesn't come out this year, will make for a very contentious GOTY debate. So far, it's been the smaller games that have impressed most e.g. Journey, Dear Esther, Fez.

Can't wait for Christmas 2013! February release means it should be a deal during the Steam Holiday Sale! Hoping I can pick it up for $5-$10 like Bioshock 1 & 2. :D Could probably get it for $20 during the Steam Summer Sale with a February release too. :D

I never get why people attach goty to games without playing them...all because it's another game in a recognizable series doesn't mean it's guaranteed quality.

Coming into this year, the 2012 games I was looking forward to the most were Prey 2, STALKER 2 and Bioshock Infinite...

Yeah... Sucks to be me.

This puts the Bioshock Infinite development cycle at 5.5 years. That's one of the longest this generation right? Unlike most games that are in the works for that long, I don't get the impression this game has had a tumultuous development.

Well, it's always smaller games, but besides that, I suspect Assassin's Creed III or Mass Effect 3 will be the best received major multi-million selling game this year

I'm actually pretty happy about this, it felt odd that the only two HD games I was excited about this holiday were coming out a week apart.

Plus, I'm sure the game will be better for it.

I'd be very surprised if Mass Effect won many. It's rarely games that are released earlier in the year, and if it it, it's one that has little to no controversy like Red Dead.

AssCreed/Mass Effect/Last of Us/Diablo/Tomb Raider. I'm sure there's others.

If GTA comes out this year....well. Yeah.

I'd bet on Max Payne 3 as well.

I think Borderlands 2 will sell more than Bioshock Infinite would have. Don't know about winning any GOTYs though, but it's a plenty strong lineup for 2012 esp 'mainstream' games. Diablo 3, Max Payne 3, AC 3, Blops 2, Mass Effect 3(don't think it'll win goty from many major sites though), I could see Darksiders 2 as a dark horse like Saint's Row was. I'm not going to assume Last of Us is releasing this year.

I actually think Diablo 3 will be the front runner.

GAF Goty 2011: Portal 2 (April)
GAF Goty 2010: Mass Effect 2 (February)
GAF Goty 2009: Uncharted 2 (October)
GAF Goty 2008: MGS4 (June)
GAF Goty 2007: Super Mario Galaxy (November)
GAF Goty 2006: Twilight Princess (November)
GAF Goty 2005: RE4 (January)
GAF Goty 2004: MGS3 (November)

*shrugs* Seems pretty evenly distributed to me. Four in the first half of the year, four in the last half. (And while GAF isn't 100% representative of critical consensus, it's also not lightyears off)

Assassin's Creed III
Far Cry 3
Borderlands 2
Medal of Honor: Warfighter (Passing on Black Ops 2).

I'm good. Take the extra time and make it more awesome, 2013 is going to be pretty barren anyways.

Ken Levine, Creative Director of Irrational Games, stated, “When we announced the release date of BioShock Infinite in March, we felt pretty good about the timing. Since then, we’ve uncovered opportunities to make Infinite into something even more extraordinary. Therefore, to give our talented team the time they need to deliver the best Infinite possible, we’ve decided to move the game’s release to February.”

Great news.

Personally for me a delay of some months is never an issue if the game will be improved. Rather it is good news.

Why are so many people taking this delay as a hint pointing to an October GTA5 release? Honest question.
