Mario is going to be pretty uniform. But Link I would be excited to see change. Not only return to the child-adult dynamic, but modify his identity.

i don't think we'll see the child-adult thing again. it's only been in one game, and was a major part of the story.

Why are people "uh-ohing" at an article saying Darksiders will probably look the best on the Wii U? It basically confirms that with some effort it will, with no effort it will look the same. Which has been our impression all along of third party efforts.

I think you're right, the Mario cast will remain mostly the same.

But I'm really interested to see what Link and Samus look like. Samus, especially, could have some really great subtle changes to the suit that makes her look even more bad ass. Similar to changes in how Batman looks in TDKR.

Skiesofwonder

Walruses, camels, bears, rabbits, tigers and badgers.
I think it's reasonable to expect, at best, from a lot of third party support, maybe improved performance. By large, I think most ports will look "at least as good" as the 360/PS3 releases, and by "at least as good" I mean pretty much identical.

I would like to add that is also should not be used in any shape of form as a judgement for how strong the Wii-U is in the first place. Hell, if you bought a Xbox 360 and a copy of Gun at launch, you would of thought the 360 was a HD replica of the original Xbox if you didn't know any better. Ports to next-gen consoles are 99% of the time the original product with some bells and whistles added.

Wait until we see some original Wii-U software before making any judgements.

link starts off as a young shoemaker's apprentice. and then he grows up to be a shoemaker himself. and then you have to travel back to his childhood and adulthood in order to make the best-looking and more comfortable shoes. you use the upad to design the shoes using the materials you gather from the overworld. all your save data carries over into the next game, in which a young tailor finds a bunch of shoes and has to make an entire outfit.

One developer working on Wii U, who wished to remain anonymous, told Eurogamer Wii U ports will at best look as good as PS3 and Xbox 360 games. However, he indicated gamers will only see its true graphics capabilities with games built from the ground up for Wii U later in its life cycle.

What? They will "at best" compare to current gen graphics? Again, another contradiction.

And why would it take 'till late in the console's lifespan before we see better looking games than current gen? Nintendo and Retro Studios will surely be pushing it from the start.

amen to that!!

quick "ports" will be at least look like their counterparts on PS360 (thats ok for me then)
Games where they put a bit money in will be looking way better= thats also ok with me

wow! cool video!
too bad it wasn't used to introduce the game to the world..
mistake number 2 is not letting users upload their own creations to youtube.
seeing some of the skilled performances actually makes me appreciate this game, whereas previously I thought it was a total waggle-fest.

In fact, I think I still have it sitting around unwrapped, got it as a gift once. I'll go check it out now!
Yeah, they really needed to get that idea across, Wii Music was so horribly marketed. Most people thought you could just waggle the controller randomly and it would play music, but anyone who has tried to play a song with a 3 year old knows that isn't the case :) In fact, the best use of the game was to improvise, make the songs your own. Here's an example of the extremes you can go to to make a song yours.. Can anyone hear "Daydream Believer" in that? Or this one, sure you can hear Zelda in it, but it's definitely not the normal mix if the song.

I wish Nintendo hadn't flubbed the marketing, I would kill for a proper Wii-U sequel.

The value of the Euro has dropped below 100 Yen, currently off more than 5% from Nintendo's forecast made a month ago. The odds are increasing daily that the WiiU launch in Europe will be delayed.

I have a feeling these guys don't want to say "Wii U version looks better", to not upset the PS3/360 players.

Many times I have heard developers say a game is the same on all platforms, even PC, but turns out of course that PC version looks better in some ways.

Won't look crazily better, but like PC I don't expect multiplatform games in which the primary platform is 360/PS3 to show the true power of Wii U anyway.

Probably because the last time such info came along, we had a thread (headed by three mods, a true rarity) that ended-up being a bit of a mess.

So when news reminiscent of "on par" arrives, some folks worry about trouble.

This is an important point. The biggest contributor to Nintendo's losses last year was the weakness of foreign currency against the Yen, and pretty much all Japanese companies are being hammered by the exchange rate right now.

I could definitely see the collapse of the Euro markets as a big hurdle for Wii U launching with the rest of the world. We'll see, its up to NCL's finance guys to make it work.

All Japanese countries?

So... Japan?

they could just put marios brawl model in super mario wii u and it would look amazing.

Yup, work with that model as a base and work up from it. *bites lip* Dat denim overall texture.

Yup I feel the same way. At the very least the U version can have no screen tearing and run at a steady frame-rate while maintaining the polygonal and textural nature of the other versions. The attention that would have been spent on the graphics could be focused on making compelling use of the DRC.

Fox will have all the fur again.
Fixed.

Yeah, that's what I feel in regards to a potential GTA V timed exclusive. This gen will be even worse for the bitching and moaning if Nintendo gives them exactly what they wanted, and the devs will scramble to atone for their sinful fraternizing. At least early on.

"At least as good" means it could look better than PS360...right, guys?

It could be that Vigil depowered the PS360 version at Nintendo's request to make the Wii U look good. That's your tinfoil hat conspiracy theory of the day.

good laugh....but sadly that will spread in internet now as "Nintendo pays devs to visually downgrade the PS360 versions cos WiiU hw is not on par...."

I'm in Germany, but I think in that case all european countries would suffer.
But will not happen that way!!

Europe always pays what equates to hundreds of dollars more than the US anyway.

If Nintendo wants more, then price evenly and up the US prices; $400 US launch sounds about right.

Okay so we think Nintendo will have some kind of new Wii-branded casual hit ready for the system, and they'll probably devote some E3 showspace to it. What could it possibly be? My money's on it being something that you can play with a family, entirely on the touch screen.

My first thought was a console Brain Age game. After that I thought something kind of similar to a board game but with interaction from the TV. Something like that resembling a game show could be great. Trivial Pursuit, Family Feud, Jeopardy, etc.

If WiiU is $350-450 then it is DOA.
I say its $249-299.

I hope you're right. That's my sweet spot, based on how much I'll get to use it (seriously, kids' activities take pretty much all of your free time). $350 or more and I move into 'wait and see' mode.

Indeed. That thread definitely made some interesting impressions, one of them serving as a reminder for us to keep cool when news we may not like surfaces.

Not sure when B_Rik is returning..

Update on the Wii U trademark opposition in England. I can now safely say to 99% that the name of the console is Wii U.
....

Thanks, your investigations since several months on this Wii U name subject was interesting to follow :) And it's not the end apparently (US trademark)

Not Wii U related and I don't think it deserves a thread... But it's interesting to note that Satoru [Iwata clone] Shibata, Head of Nintendo Europe, is getting more public exposure since his last Nintendo Direct.

http://www.inside-games.jp/article/2012/05/23/56835.html

Promotion still, Satoru playing Mario Tennis Open with Steffi Graf. He already did the same with Tim Henman & Greg Rusedski for Wii sport, back in 2006.

So smart. So much laughs.

Note the bowls full of fruits, and water bottles, for the "clean & healthy" image :p Hey Nintendo, come on, do it like Blizzard, put energetic drinks & fat chocolate bars on those tables !

Let's hope their brand will develop a less polished image, representation, for Wii U that what we saw for Wii/DS. And no, the late 3DS commercials don't count :p

We need a "Fast Forward 2" policy !

Nirolak sure likes making Wii U threads.
at least I am not alone in noticing this trend

Indeed.

I just hope my peeps in here tread carefully; Nintendo's conference is a mere 312 hours away.

...

Since we're talking about a potential delay of launch in Europe due to exchange rates, it leads me to wonder.. do you all think we'll see the Wii U as more difficult to obtain than the Wii was.. or easier?

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
Funny fact is that nobody make those statements back in 2005 when Xbox 360 got Xbox 1 port.

I distinctly remember people complaining about ports like GUN which looked marginally better than the Xbox counterpart. However, the Xbox 360 had the benefit of launching with games like Kameo and PGR3, which looked noticeably better than last generation games.

In the case of the Wii U, we've seen nothing yet, so it's kind of hard to draw comparisons.

Very important news here in Spain. The award ceremony is held every year in October in Oviedo (Asturias, in the north of Spain).

I can't open a thread because I'm junior member yet maybe some of you can do it.
Way to go Mr. Miyamoto :)
