Also, I don't think that the leap to the PS4 or Nextbox is going to be a next-gen leap. At least not in the way that you're painting it. It's not going to be as big as PS2 to PS3. I thought that this has been said, and then explained by numerous people?

IMO the HD twins were between 1.5-2 times a generation leap. I don't expect a giant leap like from PS2 to PS3, and I probably shouldn't expect the same for PS4 and Xbox 3.

If Wii U doesn't match Xbox 3 and PS4, big deal. It's already way more than enough to deliver compelling games.

All I want is multiplatform games. I don't care if they have as many particle effects, all I ask is that they're semi-competent compared to the other systems, that's key. PS2 multiplats always looked worse than the Xbox, or even Gamecube versions, but they always sold way more; I'm hoping that's the Wii U's situation. That kind of graphical difference is fine with me.

there are so many reasons for all ports just to use the same assets as PS360 to WiiU without any improvements. This does not mean WiiU = PS360 but for some reason Eurogamer and Vigil keep shouting this from the mountain tops we just have to wait and see - when Nintendo starts embarrassing 3rd parties maybe they will try harder

It use this as an excuse not to give the Wii U multuplats...

True but I don't think it's going to be double what we have already. I'm expected more like 1.2x - 1.5x PS360 in terms of performance with maybe better texture resolutions given the expected extra memory.

It will be demonstrably better than the PS360. It will have 2x-3x the RAM at bare minimum. If 3rd parties decide that they won't spend the time/money to use higher resolution textures, or are paid by MS or Sony not to that's a completely different issue.

it's just a turn off for reasons that are hard to explain. I already tried to explain it before but I already visit gaming side and OT so much, that I just don't want to visit another place. Occasionally I'll keep the tab open and see if that helps me stay active, but I simply will not visit a 3rd place.

serious question, like farealz. Does it matter? I would prefer much better graphics as well but overall, big picture wise, it doesn't matter. Regardless of how strong the wiiU is (this is obviously ignoring situations where it would be super super strong because that's pricing suicide), the other 2 will always be stronger. They're coming out later, and will undoubtedly launch at a higher price.

In relation to this current generation, we already know that it will be demonstrably better than this generation. The spot Nintendo is in is what it is, not the hottest spot to be in tech wise, but it's a pretty sweet spot for them.*

I'm guessing somewhere near 2 or 3x, depending on what specific metrics we're looking at.

Personally, I'd be quite content with 360-level capabilities. Seeing what Nintendo could do in the past decade fills me with confidence in their ability to blow us away with their next piece of kit. After a certain level of visuals, it all seems like a penis-measuring contest to me, providing fodder for baiting us into losing our cool.

I also think people are going to be surprised by the lack of dramatic difference between Wii U and PS720. Oh, but they'll try to dramatize it, believe you me, but it's gonna come down to some smallish things. The squabbling and teasing and baiting will continue, and it will look silly.

I'm kinda glad we're moving. Seems safe.

there's been a few threads I was heavily active in like wrassle gaf, and just cold turkey stopped since moving to community. Unless you keep the community tab open you'll miss half the discussion and have to catch up like crazy. Whereas when a thread is here, I can see every time someone posts so it's easy to jump in and read it because I'm already on the gaming side browsing around. 2 is my max, and I visit OT a lot, so having to go to community just to see when people post is gonna be a bit much, and I think we all know how catching up on a thread like this is.

But alas. I will try.

Like I said earlier, my only concern is that they keep close to the next-generation in terms of graphical power. I'm fine if Wii U games don't look quite as good, like the PS2 to the Xbox. As long as third-party games are still viable on the Wii U, then I'm happy. I guess it's not really under Nintendo's control at this point though.

Hrm. I wonder if this board's software has some sort of "feed" plugin, a page which'd allow people to view all topics as if they were in one flat forum. The SQL query for this would be almost identical to one that generates a topic list per Forum -- in fact, it'd be slightly simpler.

edit: However, keep in mind that if you want a community thread to thrive, all you probably have to do is link back to it when you post a thread in Gaming that spawned from it.

it would be perfect if there was a way to have any topic you want appear on any side you want, and it shows there only for you. For instance me being able to keep this thread on the gaming side, even though for everyone who doesn't have it enabled will not see it there.
