Halo |OT4| Trust's a Tough Thing to Come by These Days

If you locked it, then it would be either useless or overpowered.

Lock it relative to how it would be balanced at range, and it is weak at the mid and short range against the rest of the sandbox. Making it a derivative sniper rifle. Useless.

Lock it relative to the mid or short range, and it destroys from long range and is at parity with the rest of the sandbox from the remaining ranges. Overpowered.

I completely disagree. Lock it at mid-long range and it'll serve it's purpose, just like any other weapon. If someone gets close, have a close range weapon like you should. This is not a new thing.

What? As previous posts have pointed out, evidence is suggesting the bloom on the DMR is purely visual. That means it has a set maximum rate of fire which does not give an accuracy penalty for firing it at such (like every other utility weapon in Halo games before bloom in Reach.)

What he is saying is if the DMR has a locked rate of fire (looking likely), there is absolutely no reason to add purely aesthetic bloom since it will trick people into thinking (at least at first) that it is bloom akin to the kind in Reach.

Also, in response the the second and third lines of your post, I believe frankie or the bulletins described the DMR as having a lower RoF than the BR and it will be the better choice at range.

Fallen Xbot (cannot continue gaining levels in this class)
is there still a group that would be willing to get together, maybe at least once a few weeks before the submission date, to thoroughly test gaffer maps like in the good ol' days?

also, no saved film required for submission?

Lock it at mid range and you're destroying from long range with a powerful long range weapon with pinpoint precision and a middling RoF. Which means it can kill at an average time from a distance no non-PW can contend with it at.

Theory.

I'm hoping this is the case. I remember when someone, maybe Killa KC? playtested 4, they said that it seemed that there was no actual bloom on the DMR.

I believe he said there was bloom, but that he didn't have to pace his shots, which also leads me to believe that it was just a visual indication.

Haven't people been posting that the MLG guys that got to try it out described the DMR's bloom as having no effect on accuracy? First described from the NFL draft pick event.
From what I've read people said that they felt like they didn't need to pace their shot much. Then some random dude on GAF suggested it may be just be visual like on the Reach Sniper.

I dug around to find another 3 controllers to load up a map I was considering submitting back for the TS update, and framerate is totally fine in 4split...

...but I cannot fathom how people can play with this insanely close LOD. It's a comically short distance.

And with all these kill messages going over your reticle...
Let's just say that 2 player splitscreen is fine in Reach but anything more could be cut for the game is practically unplayable with so small screens and LOD etc.

Yeah. The post release Halo Reach lan was an eye opening moment of "Bungie have decided to make this no longer viable".

Look, I'm not trying to argue that whatever RoF 343 chooses for the DMR won't have a massive effect on its balance with the rest of the sandbox. Of course it will, we'll just have to wait and see how it performs when we get proper multiplayer footage.

I'm saying there is no need for bloom in this game. Weapons can be balanced accordingly by modifying things like RoF, recoil (if they're going to introduce it for the BR, why not keep it consistant?), levels of aim assist and bullet magnetism.

That's why I said evidence suggests. It's obviously not confirmed.

Bolded statement so so so much.

I don't think aim assist and bullet magnetism should vary between weapons. I could buy properties like weight, recoil and of course RoF, but how your reticule behaves and what happens after you pull the trigger should be consistent.

Make the DMR competitive with the BR at mid range, worse at close range and superior at long range. You could achieve that with RoF, but I would be more comfortable with more properties deepening that well.

They already are different between weapons in every Halo game.

I agree with the bolded. Also, as pointed out, there already are (sometimes major) differences in aim assist and magnetism amongst the weapons.

Does anyone here watch Fails of the Weak? Volume 89

I wish Tempest and Highlands had turned out better. Tempest doesn't make good use of its space. The bases are like, a quarter of the way into the map...I wish they were pushed as far back as they could be.

And Highlands...I dunno. Doesn't feel right to me.

Is it just me, or the DMR on the second screen seems to be the Halo: Reach DMR ?
