Ok, not gonna lie...I didn't WANT to be here for Azealia Banks. She really needs to cool it with her twitter-tude and coming at everyone she perceives to be getting more shine than her, and their mothers. Her beef with Iggy Azalea (another female MC I'm checking for) was tired.

BUT

THAT SAID

"Jumanji" is my shiiiiiiit.

Her pulling the race card on Iggy Azalea completely turned me off from listening to her. The little I've heard wasn't impressive at all

The worst part about her Twitter "beefs" is that for the most part it's all one sided. Not going to cry for someone like Iggy though, still blows my mind she made the Freshman Class. It's not even close talent-wise between the two. No need to hate on Kreayshawn though, just going to make you look bad.

Hoping she keeps working with good producers/using good productions. Between Lone, Machinedrum, Lunice, and now Hudson Mohawke, umph. Oh and Jacques Greene was in the 212 vid too.

Her list of inspirations seems to be on point.
I like her voice so far.
And anyone willing to troll the Iggy Azaleas/Kreayshawns/etcs of the world is worth my time.

I'll keep abreast of this artist!

Azealia was in my high school Spanish class, it's been fucking wild to see her get so popular. Just the other day I walked by a mailman bumping 212 while he strutted down the sidewalk with his mailbag.

Nah, I wouldn't lump Iggy with Kreayshawn. I think Iggy's got some real potential.

But she needs to capitalize on it quick.

I sided with her in that Azealia vs. Azalea Freshman Class beef, since she'd recently hooked up with Tip and seemed on the cusp of really smashing the scene (and I thought "Pu$$y" was kinda hot). But that was how many months ago now? And she ain't even dropped a mixtape yet?

Meanwhile, Azealia Banks is steady grindin for hers. Gotta give her that.

Iggy has Ignorant Art, old ass mixtape. Pu$$y, D.R.U.G.S, and My World are all pretty solid. She's got Murda Business with TI which is the first single off her album. Iggy is decent but her shit comes off really forced and rehearsed. Nothing really fresh about her. She's marketable though I guess, she's ridiculously hot and she's white.

Azelea> and it's not close.

What happened here? Because, as far as actual rapping goes, this chick is talented and Iggy is terrible.

edit: I just checked out that track royalan just posted. I guess she can rap. I guess my only memory was from that Freshman cypher and it was cringeworthy. Still, just because she can rap doesn't mean I like what's coming out of her mouth. I legitimately enjoy Azealia Banks' shit.

On Iggy's song Drugs, she said "Tire marks, tire marks, finish line with the fire marks
When it really starts I’m a runaway slave…master." Azaelia didn't like that at all

Nor was she quick to realize the reference.

I agree with this. Funny thing, though, I think her delivery became more forced when she joined up with TI. Her flow on "Murda Bizness" (which is a wack-ass debut single, btw) is incredibly forced - like she's trying to sound Sourthern.

I much preferred her timbre in "Pu$$y".

Yeah it was a metaphor and nod to Kendrick Lamar's version, hell her flow on the song basically mirrored his.

Agreed, but we should all know by now that the first major release isn't going to be what you're use to from the artist. Blame the marketing and suits for that, the artist has almost no control over their first album. I actually like Iggy, took me forever to warm up to her after hearing Pussy, I seriously thought it was a dumb as song. But I gave it another listen then listened to Ignorant Art and she's not that bad at all. But yeah her fake accent on Murda Business is just embarrassing as all the fucks, the song itself is dumb and pretty crappy, but the beat is banittles.

Thanks!! I didn't want to double post, was hoping someone would find this thread lol

I'll update the OP in a bit with the tracklist and GIFs , feel free to post any :)

Also I had absolutely no idea Lone produced Liquorice or that Jacques Greene was in the 212 video, that's crazy. I can't believe how many talented producers she's worked with so far, I wish sooooo many artists would take note of this. Hopefully she keeps it up, but I wonder what her relation to these artists are... if it's just strictly business or she's actually a fan of them too. I love her music taste if so..

That's really really cool, though I kind of picture her as a big drama magnet... I've never known anyone who's gotten famous, seems like a wild feeling indeed.
lush is correct, though i do enjoy azelea's singing much more than her rapping
I was really surprised the first time I heard her sing, I can't think of many artists that I can tolerate both their singing/rapping. I'm sure there's an obvious one, but nobody comes to mind at the moment.

I like those 2 singles (212 and Licorice), don't like her singing all that much though. I mostly like the production, actually.

Meh on Liquorice? What is this?

I've decided I'll hook this thread up on the GIF front, tomorrow prob. Any GIF ideas send them my way.

I'm sure this chick is talented from the amount of hype she gets but she is so utterly self-righteous and obnoxious, I refuse to listen to her shit.

The last straw for me is when she went after Kreayshawn who was promoting her and was a fan. I know we all hate Kreayshawn but you don't attack other artists who promote your music.

She sure knows how to pick some fucking excellent producers. Machinedrum, Diplo, Hudson Mohawke, Lunice, Lone? Regardless of how grating her voice can be at times, this kind of production ensures I'll always check out her tunes.

Preview up for 1991 EP: http://soundcloud.com/jeff1317/1991-ep-1min

"1991" and "Van Vogue" both Machinedrum productions off SXLND. I fucking love this girl and her choice in producers. Both sound great. Can't wait to have Liquorice in decent quality as well. Bring on Tuesday.

WHAT IS THIS MADNESS!? The original "Van Vogue" has been my SHIT for the past two weeks, and it's just nuts with the vocal! Definitely getting this.

edit: forgot to mention "Liquorice" is the business. Also, she sounds EXACTLY like Missy E a lot of times. I like that.

^ I love those gifs lush :), I tried putting them in the OP, but they're kinda huge lol.

This is officially out for those in the UK on amazon.

Usually I hate when artists sample songs that are less than a year old (DDD/Van Vogue), but both 1991 and Van Vogue kill. Pretty sure she said Machinedrum is her favourite producer haha, it's great. I wouldn't be surprised to see an entire collaboration album between them, he seems to really love her too. Van Vogue & 1991 slay, her voice on those beats is awesome. I love her she switches between rapping and singing as well.

Also the new Liquorice is nice, the bass is so much betterrrrrr and everything is crisp. Apparently 212 was touched up a bit too, but I can't really tell hah.

Can't wait to get a chance to listen to the EP. I've been trying not to listen to Banks for a while to keep myself from playing it out haha.

The EP is flawless, fucking tune across the board. 1991 is probably my favorite, love that beat so much. Vocals sound fantastic over it. Also Liquorice in 320, praise the heavens.

Also, holy shit at that outro on Van Vogue:

Oh, yo yo yo, these bottom ass bitches with these raggedy ass shoes I see you, bitch. With your Pellegrino refund, I see you coming out of NYU Spitting that refund check, getting fly rainbows and shit Tryna' come out of Forever 21 stunting on me Don't want to see none of your “whole foods” and shit I see you, motherfucker. Let me get some of that kombucha drink, bitch Let me get some...shit. I want some. I want some You stepped it up. You not in McDonalds, you in Chipotle—fuck outta here! Fuck outta here. So what, you know where the ?? spot at. You still aren't a rap bitch And you tryna' stunt on me. Yeah, you out the hood. And yeah yeah yeah, so what You out the hood now, I feel you. I feel you They got government grants and shit like that that get you outta here “Equal opportunity education” programs and shit that got you outta these streets Now you up in there, you a fresh ?? UNCC, UNY, whatever, somewhere, studying some shit about political science And you tryna' do your shit on the side. And you downtown just closing You won't ?? you having a good time. But when I see you, bitch, just light me up You know it's me! Light me up. When I ask you, just light me up You know me. Don't front now. Don't front now Oh, yeah, “I don't smoke blunts no more. I don't smoke no blunts no more. Bamboo now.” You got on some white boys, I feel you! And now you don't wanna light me up when you see me come through We don't drink Henney no more? Oh, nah, you drinking ?? white wine. Wahahahah. White wine, bitch, okay Next

^ E3 had me distracted. That's great to hear, love how she's constantly dropping new songs. Mermaid Mixtape sounds really good, great track selection.

I may have to go on blackout from her songs, so it's all fresh when the mixtape/album arrives.

More Drama... She's switched management again and got into an argument with her manager Troy Carter (manages Lady Gaga) on twitter. She's switched to tumblr for all her updates and deleted her twitter completely. And now she says she no longer wants to be a rapper, and will focus more on being a vocalist.. A lot happening at once, I'm sure more will be revealed when she makes more posts later. The mixtape is still coming. More info: http://www.prefixmag.com/news/azealia-banks-says-she-doesnt-want-to-be-a-rapper-/66121/

Some quotes:

Tumblr:
 • "no longer wishing to be a rapper.i never was…. and as soon as i started paying attention to bullshit urban media, i started getting myself in trouble. From now on i’m a vocalist, and will not be associating myself with the “rap game”… or whatever the f*ck that means…no more twitter for me… it makes me entirely too accessible. Catch me on tumblr… it’ll be more interesting."
 • "i'm still going to rap... i just don’t want the label and all the other crap that comes with the “rap game”… it’s boring. rather be a dance artist.. lol."
 • "i'm just too weird for hip-hop"

Twitter (Vs. Troy Carter):
 • "I know who you are yes…You short bald man…I know you planted these false stories."
 • "Guess what?: I’m still not going to let you manage me again. I’ve dealt with enough cyber bullying to see right thru this."
 • "I will definitely be working BY MYSELF and saving MY 20% On management commissions while I avoid you sharks in the water…."
 • "I really want a female manager. Women are just so much smarter."
 • "I just want a really hardcore woman…Or a really gay man as my manager…You other n-ggas have WAY too much ego sh-t with y’all."
 • "I just need a lady with some really intimidating glasses and a crazy shoe game to just stomp all you phonies out!"
 • "Lol I’m dead serious tho…About not hiring another male manager. The next manager you all see will be the kuniest kunt ever."

It was the 7.7 on P4K. The only logical explanation. Really though, I doubt most of it. She seriously needs to avoid social media at all costs. Her brand is too strong to be done.
