Should be interesting to see the original DS bump. 10k?

Yeah most likely, if anything, some people will just use this as an excuse to finally get a 3DS. Anyone have an idea of how much Nintendo is pushing the two complementary 3DS eShop software in Japan?

The Behemoth is coming!

Being very conservative I'm expecting at least a 2 million opening, that should be a lock. With that amount it would join the very exclusive club of the 2 million openers.

[NDS] Pokemon Black / White (Pokemon Co.) {2010.09.18} - 2,637,285
[NDS] Dragon Quest IX: Defenders of the Starry Sky (Square Enix) {2009.07.11} - 2,343,440
[PS2] Dragon Quest VIII (Square Enix) {2004.11.27} - 2,236,881
[PSP] Monster Hunter Portable 3rd (Capcom) {2010.12.01} - 2,146,467

We will have to wait until Dragon Quest XI or the next main Pokémon game to see another game with such a huge debut.

Didn't FFVIII open with over 2 million?

Trailers have been running with teasers for the AR game and the 3DS logo attached to the end.

Sorry, I overlooked it, the same with Final Fantasy VII.

I already fixed it, Final Fantasy VIII was so absolutely massive.

| NDS | 998 | 1,044 | 41,676 | 32,850,161 |

At this rate NDS will not reach the 33 million mark.

The release of Pokémon Black / White 2 is the last chance it has since I don't think Nintendo will lower its price, it is a completely dead system there.

Great numbers for Tokyo Jungle. I had no idea it would even get near 6 figures in sales, especially in the first week.

And surprise, surprise at Vita actually moving some HW with a decent exclusive release. If only that happened on a weekly basis!

P4G this week. Then so far there's nothing big until Hatsune Miku F (which is August I think).

Well there's Time Travelers in July, but it's not exclusive, and it won't be big. Same with MGS collection.

Wont Miku get slaughtered by the Mario in August with NSMB3D? :p

How likely is this? I mean, Diamond and Pearl didn't open that big, and those were mainline titles.

Do we have any updates on how BW2 preorders are doing?

Black and White was the first time actually there was enough supply to allow for a 2 million plus opening.

I'd say there's about a 50/50 chance Tokyo Jungle will stay #1 during Pokemon Black 2 / White 2's opening week. The explosive word of mouth about the game is sure to make it see an unprecedented +2500% sales increase week over week.

Not surprised by the Tokyo Jungle numbers at all.
You could see the buzz for the game in Japan through magazines articles as well the attention the game was receiving from other developers in the community. Most stores are sold out and the demographic of people buying the title is HUGE! Plus the online leader board was a dead give-away as to how well the title had been selling.

Very happy for Crispy's, although for the western release I think they really need to look at the structure of the game before they release it because it's gonna get many people angry!

VITA ABOVE PSP?

Vita above PSP!

Be ready to see a bump. Of the DS. With a 3 before "DS".

On a related note; is new PSP software generally being released in both physical and digital format now?

If not, in the same way that Pokemon - despite being a NDS game will probably positively affect 3DS sales - would more PSP software being available digitally drive more adoption of the new platform over the old?

I have about 37% of new PSP releases since Feb. 2012 that also have a downloadable version. (Feb. 2012 is when I started registering them. Does not include "best" editions.)

PSP(2011 YTD)= 1,040,345
PSP+PSV(2012)=705,383(-32.2%)

Looking ahead to Week 24, PSP did 31,796 in 2011.

3DS+DS(2011 YTD)=1,555,607
3DS+DS(2012 YTD)=1,982,281(+27.4%)

Looking ahead to week 24, 3DS+DS did 51,544 in 2011.

All handhelds(2011 YTD)=2,595,952
All handhelds(2012 YTD)=2,687,664

Hmm. So that would mean the majority of PSP games being released right now, aren't available on the PSV.

They should probably work on getting that proportion higher for both new releases and back-catalogue. I imagine if it were around 80-90% then the value proposition of paying an extra 10,000 yen or so would be more palatable.

Then again, I'm assuming the PSP is relatively profitable per hardware unit now - while the PSV likely isn't - so I can see why they may not want to kill it off.

For anyone wondering, the releases between Persona 4 (this week) and the next 'big' game, Miku, on August 30th: (note: educational software and possibly some very niche titles are excluded)

Super Monkey Ball Asobita (JUNE 14th)
Metal Gear Solid HD Collection (JUNE 28th) (Previously on PS3, 360)
Dokuro (JULY 5th)
Time Travelers (JULY 12th) (Also on PSP, 3DS)
Resistance (JULY 12th)
Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball 2012 (JULY 19th) (Also on PSP, PS3)
Moe Moe Daisensou! (reg/premium) (JULY 26th)
Orgarhythm (AUGUST 9th)
Ginsei Shogi (AUGUST 9th)
Tokushu Hodoubu (AUGUST 23rd)

Also there are White systems coming on June 28th.

Nothing to write home about but certainly an improvement over the last two/three months of hell.

Does anyone have a list of 3DS games during the same time period?

[Also, you're doing a fantastic job helping out Donny~ =)]

Hopefully, the DS goes out with one last hurrah. Doesn't deserve to go out like this.

I had never heard of Tokyo Jungle before so I went and found a video about it. I still have no idea what the heck this game is.

Err, DS has Black 2/White 2 real soon.

Shamefully stolen from GameFAQs, might not be that accurate.

Code:
06/14	Japan	Gon: BakuBakuBakuBaku Adventure
		Heavy Fire: The Chosen Few
06/21	Japan	Hello Kitty to Sekai Ryokou! Iron na Kuni e Odekake Shimasho
06/23	Japan	Pokemon AR Searcher
06/28	Japan	Culdcept
Tantei Jinguuji Saburo: Fukushuu no Rinbu
07/05	Japan	Danball Senki Baku Boost
Sekaiju no Meikyuu IV: Denshou no Kyojin
Tousouchuu: Shijou Saikyou no Hunter-Tachi Kara Nigekire!
07/12	Japan	Pocket Soccer League: Calciobit
Taiko no Tatsujin: Chibi Dragon to Fushigi na Orb
		Time Travelers
07/19	Japan	DoraKazu: Nobita no Suuji Daibouken
		Rayman Origins
		Rune Factory 4
07/26	Japan	Doukutsu Monogatari 3D
		Kobitodzukan: Kobito Kansatsu Set
08/02	Japan	Madagascar 3: The Video Game
Smile Pre-Cure! Let's Go! Marchen World
08/30	Japan	Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers
Senran Kagura Burst: Guren no Shoujotachi

Not many megahits on there but some good games.

The general implication was that Black 2/ White 2 was that last hurrah. =P

Also, both handhelds seem to be going into something of a "lull" over the next few months in terms of the quantity of big hitters. The period will be a really interesting period for legs. Rune Factory 4, Culdcept, AR Searcher and Soul Hackers should be pretty big!

Well that and NSMB 2's nebulous August date.

EO IV, Soul Hackers, Rune Factory 4 are definitely three games on my radar.

Now that SE has announced that kid's time for DQ10 is actually 2 hours every day, I'm thinking that it could sell better than I thought. For those that don't know, kid's time is time where people who aren't paying for a subscription can play for free. The hours (4-6PM on weekdays and 1-3PM on weekends) are such that working adults and older students won't really be able to take advantage of it, but I still think it's a pretty big deal.

Be ready to see a bump. Of the DS. With a 3 before "DS".

I'm wondering what'll be bigger: The 3DS bump due to this DS Pokemon title available in a couple of weeks, or the future 3DS bump for a future 3DS Pokemon title available some unknown time later.

I'd expect the latter to be larger due to the fact that a 3DS purchase is necessary for the latter - but that's potentially a long way off, while this one is here right now.

I reckon that the 3DS hardware will see a small bump in sales when Pokemon B/W 2 comes out. Prolly a 20-30k boost, no more than that

I raised this issue a few threads before and seriously cannot understand how people keep lowballing their predictions for DQX. The times you state are pretty much what I expected and I don't see why it should sell *much* worse than DQVIII, even if it is an MMO.

I stand by my original statement that it will be a strong millionseller, possibly multimillion. And that's Wii alone, not talking about the Wii U version.

I think that the problem with X is not only the bill to be paid to play it, but also the structure derived by the MMO games.
The fact that you have to be online to play it, for example, but also the lack of deep characters for example

plus, the Wii is no more a beast in terms of popularity, especially for Jrpgs.

Also every TV ad for BW2 has a "Can also play on 3DS" thing at the end, so Nintendo wants everyone to buy a 3DS for these games.

It's really cool that SCEJ pushed Tokyo Jungle so hard.

This would have been some obscure DD-only game, probably still a success as the budget couldn't be that big (unless by now they pumped more into it to increase the content etc.) - well if some company fund something like this in the first place.
But Sony literally forced this now to be fairly popular game.

Kinda similar to the exposure SCEA "indie" PSN games get, making Flower, Journey etc. big sellers.
I tip my hat for that.

This is a interesting week. SCEJ doesn't make that many games - but this was a very pleasent surprise. Never believed that SEED is still so popular all this time. The vita is still going struggle but this is some sliver of hope.
