Official Wii U Experience Thread - NYC

I went to the WiiU experience in NYC yesterday. I was late and hot and sweaty, so that part sucked. I also have poor reading comprehension and actually went to Nintendo World first instead of the location where they were having the event.

I made sure to check everything out visually, and the system looks very nice. It is certainly not going to be able to compete with my gaming PC, but first party Nintendo games in a much higher res then I have ever seen is all I want, and it is what I got.

I got some hands on time with Nintendoland:

Luigi's Mansion - This was TONS of fun. I've never played pac man vs. We did the demo (my friend Ginny and I) with 3 strangers and we all had good fun, taking turns as the ghost. The touch and the visual fidelity of the gamepad impressed me. My friend Ginny doesn't game that much and she really enjoyed it as well. (I might have been playing with Shin John PV)

Link sword thing - Was fun but forgettable. Cant see myself playing it very many times

Donkey Kong - Didn't get to actually play it, but from watching, it looks awesome.

I also got some hands on with NSMBU:

Don't listen to anyone who says this is the same as NSMBWii graphically, they are out of their minds. The game is STUNNING. True Mario in HD and it is awesome. I played the first two available levels and the game retains the mario gameplay that we all know and love... but with a problem...

I'm hoping this is due to it being an early rev, or the TV's not being calibrated properly, but there was MASSIVE input lag while we were playing 3 players (and 1 more on gamepad making platforms). I can't imagine Nintendo EVER shipping a Mario game with an issue like this, but I felt that I should mention it.

The event itself was nice and fun. I think its crazy we live in a world where the sign stuck on to each "cubicle" was an ipad and not a sign, but whatever.

I'm really glad Nintendo did this, it was a great way for me to preview the hardware, and to feel special for being a loyal fan.

I gave my third invite to a gaffer, but we didn't seek each other out or anything.

Haha, really?

Got an invite today for an event in Washington DC! There were times from the 26th to the 28th. I registered for Saturday, July 28th from 1 to 3 pm. Anyone else get an invite for the DC event?

Got an invite for the one in San Diego today!

It's going on at the same time as Comic-Con and is "just steps from the Convention Center." I already hate driving downtown and at the same time as Comic-Con is going to make that 100 times worse but... I'm going no matter what, dammit!

Registered for Chicago, july 20, 5-7 pm

Don't know if I'll go though. Wanted to bring my son but it's 18+ for all attendees apparently.

Anyone else going to the Chicago one at that time?

Interesting.. the NYC one encouraged you to bring friends, family and kids.. even saw 2 blogs today with folks talking about checking out the device with their kids.

Does anyone know if Nintendo sends out the invites in waves or all at once? I'm hoping to go to the San Diego event while I'm there for Comic Con, but no email yet. I'm in LA, so I imagine (and hope!) that I'm "eligible" for the invitation.

How is it.. I've never knew you were a GAFfer! :O

Maybe it has to do with the location? It's tbd

I wish that there was like an email contact or phone number or something

DC one says you can bring kids, just that anyone under 17 has to be accompanied by an adult. And of course you have to register them, you can't just bring them along like that.

Anyone else going to the DC event? As I said earlier, I'll be there on Saturday, July 28th from 1-3 pm.

How are people getting invites? Club Nintendo? Luck? MAGIC BEANS?!
They're hidden in coin blocks around the city.

Email invites from Club Nintendo

Got a San Diego invite but downtown during Comic-Con is the last place I wanna be. E-mail says non-transferable but if there's a way for someone to use it, I'll send to the first PM I get.

Got a DC invite. Gonna be a crazy weekend, considering it falls on the same weekend as Otakon. Took the Thursday 5-7, so it'll be off to DC for this, then down to Baltimore to pick up Otakon passes, heh. For the people who have already gone to these, should I be expecting a big crowd? Like, is a lot of the time there likely to be spent in lines, or on games?

Nah (i'm not saying the DC one is wrong, I mean to reply to the statement referring to Chicago), I just checked the page for the Chicago one when I enter in the codes; it definitely says you have to be 18+ to go.

They're coming to DC!?!? If anyone has a guest pass that they are not using, please, if you can, may you give me the opportunity to be a guest? :)

Got my invite email for the Chicago event last night. Promptly registered myself, my wife, and a friend for Saturday evening. Today I find out I have to be out of town Saturday. Ugh. Fired off an email to the support address listed in the FAQ to see if our registrations can be moved to Friday night, or possibly reset altogether so we can reschedule. I'm gonna hate missing it if we end up having to, especially because my wife is the one who's stoked about it the most :(

That being said, if support lets me reschedule, it means I'll still have a single guest pass to spare for any Chicagoans who might want to attend. I'll post here if it works out that way :)

So my friend registrations keep telling them the event location is DC and not Chicago. It has them for DC during the Chicago event and times.

I sent an e-mail cause that's just weird.

I'm waiting for the Atlanta one starting August 2nd. The Nintendo rep told me about it last week since she knows I'm a huge Nintendo fan. But I guess that one hasn't been officially announced yet. I was told August 2nd-7th since the reps are getting their training on the 1st.

Looks like I have two open guest slots for the San Diego showing. Info here:

Confirmed Time: Saturday, July 14 - 2 - 6 p.m.

You may bring up to three guests. Please respond to this email with the names of your guests if you have not already provided them. Both the Club Nintendo member and guests must be present at the same time to check in. This invitation is non-transferrable.

Address: San Diego Marriott Marquis & Marina, San Diego Ballroom (just a few steps north of the San Diego Convention Center)
333 West Harbor Drive
San Diego, CA 92101

If anyone's interested send me a PM with your name so I can e-mail it to Nintendo. I'll also need a phone number so we can meet up at check-in time since it says I and my guests have to be present at the same time to check in.

UPDATE: Guest spots taken.

No idea. I' send out an e-mail to them on Wednesday morning if they don't say anything. Their CS for that has been great.

Is there any chance they'll eventually come to Toronto? I'm so jelly right now...

Sexual favours, perhaps? At this point I'd do anything to try the WiiU. ANYTHING.
Joking, of course :P
Or am I? O.o
