Should have listened to my leet strats on how to play that shitty map. When using said strats I have never lost on said map. Doesn't matter if the other team is jetpacking or anything. I like coming up with leet strats for shitty maps because then idiots we play against pick them less.

Well maybe next game we can do that. I'm pretty much done with Reach. They refuse to update their fucking playlists while SHIT is in MM. I don't expect anything to change though so I'm just done with Reach for awhile again, probably Halo. Expecting something else would make me insane.

Also I couldn't really hear anyone I'm listening to Passion Pit. > Your voices. :)

LOLWUT? The portal behind the chief is an actual object designed to be seen in the context of a story. The opening behind Batman is a literal logo, designed to reinforce the brand in a moody and subversive way. One is an illustration, one is a graphic design. This is like, Design 101.

Sorry, that was obviously one of many classes IGN skipped.

Yay snow.

So we've seen Lava, Snow, Desert, Forerunner, and Human environments...

I can't wait to see the rolling grass maps...

I was just about to cap that. Good scope on the locations show so far. My jaw still drops a bit when they say, "fifty missions" in the panel. That's....a LOT of missions. Good lord.

So let's say in Halo Reach, you had to earn 500,000 credits to unlock X helmet. In Halo 4 you're going to have to rank up based on your performance (ala Halo 3) to let's say level 30 to unlock X helmet instead.
My "wat" was "that is whack."

I certainly hope this is the case, instead of hitting a plateau based on your skill level and not being able to unlock further armor pieces.
If I'm understanding this correctly, it's like Reach's credits: you earn them after every game and they go towards increasing your rank (gotta get to fat kid inheritor status.) However, playing better nets you more credits, thus you rank up faster (things like performance bonus.)

343 hasn't described their ranking system yet (ranking system in the sense of Halo 3's system, ranked vs. social, etc.) It would be foolish to think that they would lock the Barbie dress-up stuff behind a skill-based progression system, I think it will be tied to the global progression system, the main component of which is play time (like Reach.)

EDIT: as for the specializations, I interpreted that as once you reach a certain level in the progression system (max level?) you can reenlist in a certain niche grouping which grants you access to perks/emblems/other stuff exclusive to that particular specialization. Contrasted to prestige in CoD, this doesn't take you back to "level one," it takes you in a 10 level loop at the top of the system, earning a new specialization each pass.

I don't like this on paper, I enjoy having full access to everything in the game. Specializations give exclusive perks for different play styles? Well, I have multiple, and I would like to explore all the game has to offer instead of throwing myself in a niche. Gotta try it first I guess.

If this were the case, don't you think their response to that question would be a bit misleading? They clearly stated that it didn't function like Reach, but instead unlocked based on skill.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see. :_\

Stopped watching the panel three questions into the Q&A, when the sad tale of Frankie abandoning some soul at a bar was being told. I can only take so much.

Good panel, the team's pride - and nervousness - comes through. Sink or swim 343 went big with Halo 4, it's clearly enormously ambitious. Pieces seem to be falling into place; I hope they're able to land it. Can't wait to give it a run at PAX.

I work in Sarasota, live in Bradenton right next to it.

actually headed to Bradenton for our honeymoon in late sept/early oct, this will be our 2nd trip down there, any suggestions for non disney/universal stuff to do?

also Spartan Ops looks amazing, even in blurry off screen cam footage. I was looking for a new sparkast, when i saw that there were actually 2 E3 podcast, one on 6/17 and another on 6/18, I only listened to one and can't remeber which one, so time to go back and listen to both

Care to indulge us? I hate that map.

So. We were red team. We get guaranteed 2 power weapons (if we're not retarded). So we keep the sniper at the tower, a guy at the nade launcher wall, a guy at snipe, and the 4th running around between those locations getting angles and supporting and whatnot.

The blue team is usually guaranteed rockets, which, especially when jetpacks are available, is basically the only threat to the cover that you can have on red side. The other team with jetpacks is even preferable. Either they walk to the only two entrances on that side (near snipe and near the tower, both easy choke points) or they jetpack over and it's reallllly easy teamshot. Your sniper can basically shoot without ever leaving cover, the grenade launcher can help with the choke points and everyone has a DMR (with the 3rd guy watching landing and the walkway near it if/when they retreat.

There may be a good counter to it, but I've never lost with this strat in MM, especially against terrible opponents like we had.

Halo 4 couldn't get here fast enough so I can put all of my hopes and dreams in it then be disappointed by the outcome, for the 3rd time.
You didn't like Halo 3? Wat
Or are you talking about ODST?
They should fix Reach before they release a new product. IMO.
Right-o.
Btw if anyone is wondering where I'm talking about with the whole spartan ops Laskey thing look here.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35_pXjNsDUY&feature=player_embedded#t=938s

When he says "He's someone who I've cared...*Frankie glance* I've come to care about."

Crisis averted.

So I think Laskey is potentially one of the deaths.
Oh man, really hope that's not true.

Also, check the tourney thread. Deadline for this round is Wednesday, July 25th at 11:59 PM CST.

Came into this thread, no idea what is going on. Master Chief is Batman.

Just watched the end of the panel again, Kevin Franklin answered the question. He said they "completely redesigned the progression system from reach..." He stated that you unlock the armor and weapons automatically through your progression through the system, and that progression is influenced not only through time but through your performance against others. Listening to it again, that reinforces what I said and I'm almost positive I'm right. The only difference from Reach is that you no longer have to purchase the armor, it's unlocked automatically like in Halo 3.

Again, don't confuse this progression system with a skill based progression system that they have yet to announce (like 1-50, etc.) This progression is just like reach: earn exp for completing games, get more for performing well in those games. In that panel, they stated that in order to use the specializations from the LE, you have to reach the max level first. It is not a skill based progression system, they wouldn't keep content form LE customers like that. You're going to be fine, you can unlock your armor just like in reach's system, only you don't have to pay for it this time.

To further prove my point, they said you can go through the progression system solely in Spartan Ops, player skill be damned.

Some of you guys really dive too far into the meaning of words. Wild extrapolation of information is dangerous.

My only concern is that there would be a single set of armor per rank with a total of ~25 ranks. I guess it's different given the variety of new options (legs, new visor colors, etc) but I can still see some concerns about not getting one specific shoulderpad to complete my ideal look until my final rank which I may not reach for two or three years. More incentive to play better, I guess.

Found out that the GameStop where I preordered my copy is going to do a tournament with a grand prize for the winner on launch night.

Yeah, they might as well give me the prize now.

So, I've been on vacation the past 3 days, but I just watched that assassination video, and see that you can throw the oddball to each other? That looks a lot like that mode in UT that Eazy told me about years ago, sounded awesome to me. I'm ok with this.

HaloGAF: you were on fire this weekend. You brought me tons of new Halo 4 info, you got Hyper a hoodie, and through Heckfu you managed to hilariously troll the Gamespot livestream audience.

You are masters of my heart.

The Microsoft Store near me has opened but I haven't been to it yet. Gonna go there and scope out their Halo 4 launch plans. Also, the wall screens or whatever.

I highly doubt the bolded. The LE comes with three specializations. It would be crazy to not be able to use those on the scale of years. At this point, we really have no other option but to wait and play the game, unless Frankie or David decided to fully describe the system for whatever reason.

I think that the majority of the playtime and draw in the halo 4 progression will come after reaching max rank for the first time, i.e. the specialization stuff. That's not to say I like the idea, just my guess.

Why the hell do we have to grind for armor? Dumb bullshit. It will be like 30,000 kills for the Security helmet or something stupid like that.

The one in Danbury right?

Nexy is uploading to youtube very soon, Ellis interview in the next few days.

I'm not going to lie, I totally thought this was one of the leaked Reach screenshots (the old Tom Morello ones where people thought the Needle Rifle was a heavy weapon, etc.) but with a Promethean Knight and a Storm Rifle shopped into the pic. I need sleep.

First thing I thought too. Although I need sleep as well.

What's all this talk of specializations? was more released about them? I've been immersed in Breaking Bad all day (I finished Season 4 at 9:58...2 minutes before Season 5 Premiered).

Also, just watched the better video of the assassinations. The helmet in the flag clip is awesome, and those colors are SO bright.

New concept art of Prometheans from the panel.
It is not new. Technically it is a year old. (or eleven months)

Question Regarding Spartan Ops:

l6nUe.png

It say 14 hours remaining in upper right hand corner, what does that mean exactly?

Can you still replay missions from Episode 1, weeks later?

What happens if you are away for a week and you missed the episode?
Yes, you can replay missions afterwards.

My interpretation:

Regular rank progression > Reach max rank > Enter specializations > Choose either Vehicles, Gunner, Runner, Marksman, Demoman, etc. (just made those names up) > Receive Halo 3 Recon-esque armor, awards, medals, emblems, and other goodies relative to the specialization you chose
