Unchained Blades (PSP/3DS) - June 26 on PSN, 3DS eShop later this year

Wow, this looks so much better on PSP than it does on 3DS, but I'll put that down to playing it on 3DS and only seeing PSP footage on YouTube. I bet it'd look great on a Vita though.[...]

is there any 3ds footage somewhere? Everything I saw was just psp stuff... would really like to compate the 2 versions

omfg, someone else who is playing this game!

I'm crack addicted to this and about 10 hours in or so... nearing the end of the first Titan.

It's the most addictive Dungeon Crawler RPG I've ever played. Has the best character development and customization features I've seen in such a game. The level design is superb, and makes exploring very satisfying. Adding gathering points makes you feel like there is value to exploring every possible hallway to its very end.

To answer your question, I believe you are referring to an item they may give you during conversations? It is usable during "Judgement Battles", to give your Followers a "boost" during the battle if needed.

Be sure to collect followers every step of the way... I hit a roadblock where I needed to pass a Judgement Battle and pretty much had to max out at 30 followers in order to win. Be sure to rotate out followers who hit max level as well... as you'll need your entire Follower army to be strong during those Judgement Battles.

i'm currently at titan number three. i have been busy

this game has a bit of everything. it's wizardry with harvesting, crafting and shin megami tensei conversations. DDR, real time monster catching.....i don't know. they threw everything in and it just works. it's superb, and more hardcore than most dungeon crawlers.

followers will leave anima when you dismiss them at max level. you can use that to give other followers an additional element, if they have an open slot.

I would try and record some from the Japanese version, but I don't think it'd be a fair comparison as it wouldn't be a direct capture.

I'd be ok with that. Can't buy the psp version anyway because I only got a 3ds. Just want to know if it looks just good enough to justify a buy for me.

anybody in Slon? i think i'm stuck. if you think dungeons were huge already, this one will blow your mind.

this is Amano's design for the next Unchained Blades game:

Does this game let you use base party members and such, or do you have to create characters? I'm not a fan of creating my own characters :x

looks like i'm nearing the end of the main story arc. character interaction is surprisingly fun for this genre, it succeeds in making them likable.

difficulty has been down since i've got access to everything i've wanted. hopefully the optional stuff is more like the first-mid arcs.

From what I've heard, the 2 versions are practically identical barring a few minor difference that you would expect given the different hardware capabilities of the 2 systems.

I'm still curious if the PSP has the advantage or not. Otherwise I'm waiting until either the 3DS version hits or the Vita can play it.

where is the 3DS version? It's going to come out on a Thursday sometime after August 19th?
It's looking that way, Nintendo wants NSMB2 to be the first full retail game available digitally, and they may well be counting games that aren't going to be available at retail in all regions but ARE in one.

Really hope that it's not folded into Thursday updates... but who am I kidding.
If we only get one retail title a week this whole digital download thing is going to be a disaster

Well like I said the difference are minor and exactly what you'd expect.

PSP Advantages
+ Slightly higher effective resolution
+ TV out is technically possible
+ You can have the game active on 2 devices at a time

3DS Advantages
+ 3D
+ Map on bottom screen
+ Higher colour bitrate (aka no/less dithering)

Other than that they should be identical. Admittedly I have no idea how they compare performance wise but I can't imagine there being much slowdown (if any at all) in either version.

Well, that settles that!

Mind you this is all second hand information, I may or may not be wrong on that point but I do believe that I did read impressions from someone who did play the 3DS version who claimed there was no dithering.

edit: Actually, here's some first hand evidence, finally found direct feed 3DS screens:

Doesn't appear to be entirely dither free (though I can't tell if that's the textures and filtering, the transparency effects or the jpeg compression) but a fuck ton less offensive than the PSP version:

Resolution hit does seem to be there though. Hmmm.

... I do kind of expect the 3DS release coming before Vita support though.

Actually now that I look again those pictures highlight a problem I'd have: this looks to be one of those games where the swapping of X/O may get annoying and mildly confusing. O still searches, but I doubt it's the confirm button, similar to the situation for games like Monster Hunter. I'm sure the 3DS would fix that, with A being both search AND confirm, and thus make more sense.

you're making this sound more complicated than it actually is. there is no room for confusion in the PSP version, that's what i'm playing. no pressure, clear commands.

this is all I need to be honest. One of the reasons why I had trouble playing Wizardry:LoLS. And come to think of it, it was because of the DS that I started to love dungeon-crawlers again because of the map on the second screen.

two screens are beter than one, but the map is not an issue in this game. you can place the map to the right side of the screen, or enlarge it and place it in the middle for maximum map love, if that's your thing.

Just want to let you guys know that if you happen to own a PS3, you can now transfer this game to your Vita. It is not yet available on the Vita storefront unfortunately. Gungnir can be transferred in this way as well.

very nice. i hope more people will give this game a chance now.

Has there been no word on the 3DS release? I hope its still coming. Hoping around the time New Super Mario Bros 2 releases.

If this is being sold as a downloadable retail game, rather than an eShop game proper, then Nintendo probably won't let them release before NSMB2 and won't let them talk about release dates until Nintendo's ready to talk publicly.

I'm pretty sure it's a normal eShop release, though, given that there'll be no retail version in NA. The fact it was a retail game in Japan shouldn't matter.

That being said, I have no idea what else would be holding the game up so you may be right.

Well we just had Order Up!! come out a few weeks back as an eShop title and that was retail in Euro so there precedent is there for retail games in other regions to come out on the shop.

Cool thanks for the confirmation. I guess the hold up must be something else then.

On the other hand that IS an iOS game and may be seen as something too lightweight to care about, unlike a fully dubbed RPG like Unchained Blades.

The only way that would actually matter is if there was some sort of file size limit on eShop only titles that doesn't apply to downloadable retail titles and Unchained Blades doesn't fit in that limit. This is not likely the case as the PSP version is only 286MB which is not all that much larger than Mighty Switch Force (225MB) and smaller than my current Nintendo Video extra data (305MB).

Thanks so much for that anima tip... I didn't know that.

I'm currently stuck at the Titan 2 boss... any tips??? It was a crushing wall of defeat when I reached it...
