Interesting to see where the regime goes in response to this "Damascus Volcano" battle.

Ministry of Information official talking on Syrian TV now :

Al-Akhbar English ‏@AlakhbarEnglish

Minister of Information: I confirm this is the last battle, not just in ‪#Damascus‬, but in all of ‪#Syria

Defense Minister and his associate were most likely killed by someone in the Syrian regime. I can't believe the official regime story that a suicide bomber has infiltrated a heavily guarded building and a heavily guarded meeting.

BREAKING: Minister of Defence has been replaced by Fahad Jesm Al Freg #Syria #Syrian_Tv
Replacing the Defense Minister that quick basically makes me more suspicious that the regime is behind the assassination of the previous Minister and his associate.

Anyone else feel that this battle just came out of nowhere a few days ago? Didn't seem as if there was some sort of lead-up.

Must have been slowly building their forces within the city over quite a while.

Yea, they must have been planning this.

How long before someone says the USA was behind this attack? There is always people like that.

It's not far fetched though. As of now, it's as valid a theory as the suicide bomber story.

With Assad tightening it's inner circle, paranoia is probably running wild and everyone's a suspect.
The assassination probably has something to do with the recent high ranking defection. The assassination has followed the statement published yesterday by that defector.

"I cannot but express my anger and pain at seeing the army pushed to carry out a fight that is against its principles, a fight directed by security forces and in which the people, including the soldiers, are the victims," he said.

The rebel commander who has claimed responsibility for the attack has been named by AP as Riyad al-Assad. He says his forces planted a bomb inside a room where senior government officials were meeting. But he denies it was a suicide bombing.

pinch of salt.

Syrian "Information Minister" already claimed it in his press briefing.

That CIA guy is claiming planting a bomb inside the meeting room. While the recent reports from CNN and Chineese News agency claims otherwise. They say it was a car bomb outside the building.

By the CNN Wire Staff
(CNN) — Syria’s defense minister, Dawood Rajiha, was killed Wednesday in a suicide bombing at a national security building in Damascus, state-run media reported.
The bombing took place during a meeting of ministers and security officials, state-run TV said.
The opposition Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said initial reports indicate a car bomb caused an “intense explosion” in Damascus.

The blast occurred at the time when some ministers and intelligence chiefs were having a meeting in the building targeted by a car bombing, according to the report of Syria's state TV, which also said serious injuries were caused to some of the officials present at the meeting.

A picture has been published of the car used in the assassination.

Don't know about the authenticity of it since I found it on Facebook.

It seems that I should wait before I get to know what really happened there just like any other Syrian news which begins with conflicting reports and 'sometimes' end with the real news days later.

What CIA guy? You still pretending it's all foreign terrorists and civilians slitting their own throats to make Assad look bad?
It has been confirmed that the Turkish Government has setup the FSA HQ & camps. It has been confirmed by the US government itself and other regional government that they're funding and supplying the FSA with weapon and money. It has been confirmed that the FSA militans who fled Syria are on "Saudi Arabia" and "Qatar" payroll.

It has also been confirmed that Russia, Iran and Hizbullah are helping Assad. Welcome to international politics.

Wow if true. Army forces retreating from areas of Damascus? The Israeli government also stated that the Syrian army withdrew from the Golan Heights.

Even that scenario requires a mass uprising by the local populace for there to be people to set up all these camps for.

And the confirmed reports of regime gunships and artillery bombarding residential areas? Still fantasy in your mind?

Possibly reinforcing the Presidential Palace? I heard that there's some of tanks protecting it.
That's possible, but it seems like some people are cutting loses as the situation deteriorates more and more.

I know they moved troops from the Golan Heights and pretty much abandoned the defensive lines they have, which says something of the situation. Israelis posted sat photos showing that and heavy weapon deployments in cities indicating failure to have any success with less provacitve ordinance or current troops.

Another Beeb report claimed troops were dropping guns and running, so say social media at least.

So I suspect it could be pres protect and people being overrun or scared of it and bugging the fuck out.

Man Shawkat was really loved by those around him. lol
Shawkat, married to Assad's sister Bushra, was one of the most feared figures in the president's inner circle and had won the support of the clan's influential matriarch,Anisa. He was one of three central figures in the regime crackdown, along with Assad himself and his brother Maher. As Syria's overall security chief,he had key input into all military and intelligence operations. I think the thread title should be changed to reflect the scale of what's going on. It's civil war on the streets of Damascus.
