I say what I did like was Bale and Hathaway. Bale has easily his best performance. The first act of the film works mainly because, despite allll the exposition and the character introductions and flashbacks and stuff, seeing the plight of Bruce Wayne is interesting. Bale really gets to play around a bit more, there's more humor, more sincerity, he does more then one face like he stares his way through Batman Begins. I WANT to see Bruce succeed, I want to see him get out of this funk and fight back the darkness. And even with the cop-out ending, I was alright with it because I just liked seeing him happy. Maybe that will change over time, but Bruce Wayne is the best part about a Batman movie, and I can't remember the last time I've said that.
Hathaway's Selena Kyle is a revelation, as well. Finally, a female character worth a damn in the series. She's playful but intelligent, selfish but not without compassion. She gives the movie such levity and it's a joy to see her on screen. The sudden romance fan service at the end sucked, but her journey from selfish thief to eventual hero is a satisfying one.
