I think for Halo 5 Master Chief should go back in time, find the prick in weapons development that's been messing with all the weapons and armor, and put a bullet in his head.

Not so much that people should be realistic. If everyone accepted the status quo we'd still be wiping our ass with pine cones. People should demand more from 343's playlist management. As I've said, 343 should have a blog with weekly - if not daily - updates on what they're working on, what the timeline is for changes, areas for player feedback, a timeline of past changes, player data statistics, the logic behind map and gametype weighting, etc, etc. The lack of transparency is getting really, really old. If 343's matchmaking management is yet another series of minor tweaks once a month with no rhyme or reason to the changes, they will have failed spectacularly.
Agreed, its becoming incredibly annoying to see them making changes without any further explanation about the reasoning behind those changes.

Edit: This also applies to what we've seen revealed about Halo 4 so far. 343 has done a terrible job at explaining why they made certain changes. Every now and then Frankie and David pop in here explaining some stuff but that's it.

I am bored of playing Halo 3 and Reach. With Halo CE, the issue was that it was always the same. Always using the magnum. Maybe in hyper-competitive games the other weapons had some use but on casual Halo PC matches the magnum owned. Boring. On local split screen, the pistol owned. Boring.
I prefer i have 100 different and viable ways to win, not just one. And another 100 more specialized ways to win.
I want a lot of variety. Small differences in weapons like in COD is not really enough, though it is better than having one of each weapon type. This is what i love in Halo 4, more choices, even though they're limited in scope. But not ambitious enough.

No idea what Brink is or why it failed. But i really doubt it was the premise that was faulty. Usually it is the execution and marketing.

What you want already exists. It's called Battlefield 3.

Ohhh I have seen how areas of feedback work, it isn't pretty. There were people crying out for arena changes for months on the waypoint matchmaking sub-forum and to my knowledge 343, not once, answered or even acknowledged these people directly.

The closest thing I believe they got to a response was the one we all got for the lack of matchmaking changes. We are working on halo 4.

Frankie can barely tolerate you on this forum, you think him or some other person would actually want to be transparent on halowaypoint?

I agree with you completely but i just don't know how we can actually ask for anything from 343 without being entirely ignored.

No, Battlefield 3 is not what i want. It is completly different from my vision.
My vision would keep Halo still rather arena-like and keep the player count at 16 max. My vision still includes super soldiers (but actually take that account, agile, fast moving super soldiers). My vision includes a lot of different weapons, not realistic weapons (seriously, pick any real assault rifle from one manufacturer and another one from someone else. I guarantee they're going to be almost identical). Indeed i would keep the gameplay rather Halo-like. No ADS. Grenades-melee-guns trinity. No perks (not really needed). Some form of AAs/equipment (but what, dunno yet).

BF3 is a fine game but even as a Battlefield, it ain't what i really hoped for it to be.
PlanetSide 2 seems to be much closer to what i want from Battlefield.

No such thing as a perfect world. However I watched this real talk episode with 2gd and at one time he was contemplating making a esports fps. Of course when he met a company willing to invest in a game they wanted him to make an mmo or something else. :(

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYTPMoOMKf0

I really would love to see an esports fps be made before I turn 60 and have the hand to eye coordination of a tortoise. (Not to go pro but actually get a feel at what it's like to play a solid competitive fps while in its prime)

2GD announced a week ago or so that he is indeed making a fast paced competitive FPS game called Reborn. He answers questions for over an hour on the latest episode of The GD Show.

Problem is, of course, 343 hasn't shown they have any idea what proper playlist management even remotely looks like.

Yeah, but being that they probably have 1 person working on Reach, I'm willing to give them a bit into Halo 4 and see how it goes. I never expected them to do much with Reach as it's not really their game, and they are all hands on deck for 4.

It would help to talk to them like human beings, but it's also important to remember that your opinion is just one in a sea of millions.

They're not crafting the game for one particular crowd, they have to please many, and I feel that is completely lost on most of you. It's a business, not a competitive player's wet dream.

PC only, but they put something in their game every dev should.

Each character trait is on a "slider" that can be adjusted in the console. Player physics like movement, jump height, walk speed, and even gun damage can be edited through console commnads.

Makes balancing, modding, and tweaking so much easier.

Yea, Woorloog, I was going to say Section 8: Prejudice or Crysis 2 mp. Crysis 2 doesn't have tons of weapons though and they're mostly like real weapons. There is also ADS...but it does the super soldier part really fucking well.

Poor management of the current game in a franchise that you're trying to sell a sequel to and poor marketing of that upcoming game sure makes great business sense.

For some reason I feel like spectator modes will be all the rage next gen, it seemed like MS wanted to head in that direction with PGR TV this gen, but it never panned out.

The people trying to get arena fixed tried that, nothing happened.

When you say fixed, what do you mean? I find the playlist terrible on the grounds of it only being one nade start, the playlist is semi ok apart from that.

Poor management of the current game in a franchise that you're trying to sell a sequel to and poor marketing of that upcoming game sure makes great business sense.

Before they got knee deep into Halo 4, Reach was still getting updates, and even saw credit payouts grow substantially. They're probably mere weeks away from Halo 4 being out of their hands, so it's no surprise to me that Reach isn't getting any attention anymore.

What is poor about the marketing thus far? They have the FUD trailer in movie theaters, and the making of starts tomorrow in theaters. Do you mean because they haven't released a BTS they're marketing the game poorly? Those things, while awesome, aren't watched by anyone except the people who were already buying the game day 1. We're over 3 months out from release, I think it's a tad early to call their marketing poor.

I doubt it, as much as most of HaloGAF hates Camo/Jetpack, there's a vast number of people who like it just based on how much you see it used, heh.
But how does the Jetpack work in Halo 4? If it stays the same as it was in Reach, it will break the maps again. If not, how will they change it? People are seeing the Thruster Pack as evolved version of Evade but personally I see it as a evolved version of Jetpack and Evade. You can use the thruster pack in nearly every direction(Up, Down, Left, Right etc.). Except I understood the TP wrong: What's the purpose of the Jetpack? I am still thinking that people who enjoyed the Jetpack in Reach and did not use to reach some map hideouts, will use the TP.

tl;dr: What's the purpose of the Jetpack if the Thruster pack does nearly the same. (If Halo 4's jetpack =/= Reach's jetpack; if 4's jetpack = Reach's Jetpack: wtf is it doing in the MP?)

Which is why I feel like the marketing and info reveals have been lackluster up to this point.

When they talk about something new or something being changed it seems like it is always taken out of context and then it has to be clarified but it doesn't get clarified through any official channels. It'll be a forum post, a tweet, a note in a jar, etc. All the media and info so far has felt very scattered rather than cohesive which leads to people having to put together all the pieces together.

"Want news and updates? Check out these random groups of peoples impressions! See they played for a bit and liked it!"

"Want direct footage? Well someone recorded more offcam footage over some kids shoulder!"

"Want legitimate questions answered?"
  • Where can I play the game [at the event where the game can be played]?
  • I'm on a teachers salary and I can't afford the 360 and game, blah, blah.
  • Frankie you didn't have a drink with me!!!

How hard is it to provide something concrete, easily digestible and not through a million different redundant channels?

If it changes at all, I see it being more of a jump pack instead of a jet pack. I've always thought it should function as a mini grav lift and nothing more.

Cliffy hits it on the head there, I'm so glad 4 removed the grainy filter that Reach had and went back to eye popping color...

Crysis 2 had good ideas but was badly flaved. To make use of the vaulting and grabbing and super jumps, you need the endurance of the Spartans in Halo. CoD-like two shots and death is no good.
Also, Crysis 2, as you say, has ADS, and like all CoD-like games, it doesn't have proper flow Halo has (at its best).
Besides, i sold my Crysis 2. Not regretting that.

Section 8 Prejudice has 32 max players (on consoles). Conquest. Nope, not what i'm looking for.
If i want massive battles, i really mean massive.

What i look for doesn't exist but in my mind. For small scale. (Not counting MechWarrior Online but it is a sim, not just a shooter).
For larger scale, it seems that PlanetSide 2 offers what i want.

I'm highly cautious of things like Camo/Jetpack, hopefully they don't try to sweep them under the rug mostly unchanged and hope no one notices until launch. :p

I'm hoping Jetpack and Camo AAs don't appear in multiplayer aside from Spartan Ops. As far as I know, when showing multiplayer there hasn't been any jetpacks so far, which is a good sign.

I can think of two possiblities. The abilities were still being tweaked, and so they didn't want to show them. The other is they are just holding back on rolling out all of the AA's, saving them for a later date. Perhaps a mix. But I'm also pretty concerned about both; the way evade and armor lock were replaced with similar abilities that addressed some of the issues those had is encouraging. But I'd like to see what they are doing with jetpack and camo, both in terms of design and planned implementation.

Yeah, I'm up in the air on HLS until I play a good deal. I know it's instantly better than Armor Lock though. The fact that you can still outwit the person using it will be great. We'll see if it really slows down combat though. It doesn't seem to last too long and you have to wait between each deploy.
My take on the HLS compared to armor lock - based purely on having seen it in action, rather than playing it - is that 343 replaced an ability that always disrupted combat for one that will disrupt combat in certain situations. Two that come to mind:

Long range, DMR shootouts. You're outside of grenade range and the player has not been flanked. You pop their shields, and the drop a HLS to recharge. Pretty similar to armor lock in effect, though the HLS looks to last longer so they can recharge.

The other situation is on objective games. I have this mental image of a flag carrier running across an open space on the map, and the team it belongs to respawns. Too bad two guys with HLS have formed a shield wall and are walking with the carrier, protecting them from taking any fire.

An improvement over armor lock, but I'm worried about any ability that lets a player hit pause on combat, from any distance or situation.

I find the jetpack to be the most over-powered AA in Reach. Imagine playing 2v2 prisoner in Halo CE. You gain top control, the team other team spawns on the bottom with jetpacks and is instantly back on top fighting for control of the map.

Jetpack breaks map design, flow, and the power positions become nearly useless.

I do like the way they put in the MLG Reach though, as a pickup I think it works well. (Only in 4v4's though)
Yup. I think that's why many of us are concerned.

Thanks, will sign up.

Edit: and done.

Gotcha. I don't see the flaws in Crysis 2, but a lot of people do so they must be there (I do agree the netcode is awful). It doesn't take 2 shots to kill someone if you have armor activated, which you should before you fire every time. I think the flow is pretty insane, its not the halo style flow but there's something to it.

I would definitely love the suit modules and movement/ledge grabbing/super jump in Crysis mixed with halo gameplay. I was kinda hoping they would expand into that territory in Halo 4, but we had this discussion once before and people didn't like that idea too much. Hopefully someone will find a medium that fits what we're looking for. Halo 4 is still my most anticipated game right now, though.

How does FUD sell anything to anybody who wasn't "already buying the game day 1"? I'm not sure the mass market is interested in learning about the Halo universe via 5 separately released limited budget short movies on a YouTube channel. As Plywood said, the marketing lacks any type of cohesion. If us Halo nerds who talk about the series all day are frustrated by having to track down Twitter impressions or off-screen footage from Bravo's MLG videos, how does that bode for the casual Halo buyer?

How hard is it to provide something concrete, easily digestible and not through a million different redundant channels?

It's not hard at all, and thats what boggles my mind. I can understand wanting to show the game off, but if you're gonna show it off have some vidoc to further explain and elaborate on what we just saw.

If 343 doesn't want to explain things just yet, then why even bother showing off anything? Not to mention 80 percent of my friends list were excited when Halo 4 was announced, now most of them don't really care anymore because of lack of info and trailers.

Obviously my friends list isn't an accurate representation of the entire gaming world, but the only real concrete things we've gotten are the live action trailers, the original BTS video from a couple months ago,the music BTS, and the infinity trailer.

Wheres something like the deliver hope trailer? Starry night trailer? An in-game trailer?

Armor mode, ugh. It slows down movement. Hated it. Also felt rather weak anyway. I'd rather just cloak and shoot someone who doesn't notice me. Too often the game felt like hide'n'seek when everyone was using the cloak. And it didn't have nearly enough weapons. And it had perks (i don't hate or dislike perks per se, just they're mostly unnecessary in games where customization can be done in other ways as well).

When i said customization on the fly, i meant Crysis 2 single player-like customization. Would fit Halo well, IMO. All AAs are available to everyone at all times but only one is usable at the moment. With fluid enough interface, changing them in mid combat shouldn't be impossible, just risky.

And the movement in Crysis was awesome, it really felt like you were an agile super soldier. Would fit Halo 4 well, IMO, since Spartan IVs look rather agile.

Well, what stopped you this time?
Are you blaming 343i for this?
I just feel like the only reason Q&A's for anything are taken at comic-con is because they know they are more likely to receive those kinds of easy questions and comments rather than any thing with substance.

Like a question that would be asked by a journalist or an actual fan of the series for example.

It's amazing that Eazy B's chopper question slipped through the cracks as well as the kid asking about the BR not being in ODST.
