Salvation Prophecy is a military space epic. Human, mutant, and robotic factions are at war for galactic domination. Battles rage as space fleets collide, and planet invasions clash against fortified enemy colonies. Yet the greatest danger is the impending annihilation foretold by an apocalyptic prophecy. You must seek out the mysteries of distant alien worlds, and master ancient powers to withstand the coming storm.

Space Combat

Engage in epic space battles with 50 fighter ships, space stations, and battleships.
Upgrade your ship with more powerful weapons, missiles, engines, shields, reactors, and EMPs.

Planet Battle

Embark on drop ship missions to invade enemy colonies. Battle against enemy troops, turrets, flier-bombers, and powerful mech units.
Alien Planet Exploration

Navigate your ship through unstable wormholes to unknown galaxies.
Explore alien planets inhabited by dangerous creatures.
Discover the secrets of an apocalyptic prophecy.
Seek out the guardians of ancient runes.

Military Command

Gain ranks by completing missions.
Rise up to lead your faction's military strategy.
Construct planet colonies, space stations, and military units.
Order new missions to attack the enemy.

Nice premise, but watching the trailer it feels unpolished, and the on-foot combat looks dull. I'll pass.

Play the demo and judge for yourself... there are lots of games that look polished and fun but turn out to be snooze fests.

I played the demo but didn't like it too much, it felt too simplistic with only 4-5 abilities for your character total. Also the fact that you're just another faceless goon in the army makes it rather unfun, you make little difference and just feel like another cog in the machine with little to do on your own.

The demo only has the first couple missions in the game.
Later on, you have a lot more abilities - check out the slots in this screenshot:

The idea of the game is you do start as a faceless goon, fresh from training. Then you progress your way through the ranks to become commander of your faction, and explore the prophecy stuff along the way.

And yet in every thread I see endless bitching about too many fps', etc. and here is something a little different...and it gets shit, why not give it a fair shake? Thank you jabberwocky for developing this game.

Heh, that's the curse of the game developer, D3RANG3D. ;)

Part of the problem is that popular FPS's have been steadily refined for years and years, both the engines and the gameplay. They have huge audiences, and as a result huge budgets. So they are extremely refined, solid, and expensive games with amazing production values.

With a more original game, you need to build the tech, and design from the ground up. You might end up with something innovative, but almost never as polished. Many indie devs wisely stay away from complex 3D games because there's just no chance you can compete with the polish of the AAA titles. But I'm crazy so I went for it anyway.

Thanks for posting about Salvation Prophecy here on neogaf, D3RANG3D!

I like FPS' even some of the ones GAF likes to bitch about the so called bro games, like Black Ops and Battlefield Bad Company 2, I prefer the goofy ones like Serious Sam 3, Necrovision/Lost Company, Tribes Ascend, etc.

No problem on making this thread I just thought it needed some more exposure.

Got around to playing this here recently and it seems really good. I think it favors the space part a little more in terms of polish but they have some really interesting ideas of dangers in space flight for example every time you jump between planets you go into a tunnel with lightning crisscrossing it that you have to avoid or take damage and between systems there are wormholes that you have to stay centered in or risk damage again. It can make things very tense if you are out of repairs with only a sliver of health and trying to get to a friendly station to repair.

Combat feels good in space, challenging but not really hard. If you just charge straight at a group of fighters solo, they WILL put you down hard.

Ground combat leaves something to be desired however. It can be challenging but generally is not which isn't a huge deal but there just aren't enough variety in threats and ways to deal with them. It doesn't have to be Devil May Cry but I'd like at least a cool combo chain if you keep pressing attack on the melee instead of just a horizontal slice and vertical slice. Also would like to see the ability to shoot around cover and some more weapon variety (although that may come later in the game.)

Loot (special armors, weapons, etc.) would be nice to be able to look forward to something for ground combat but that would take some considerable work on the developers part so that may not be in the cards. And frankly, it may be available later in the game, I haven't played a ton yet.

Ground combat plays out a bit like Earth Defense Force in my reckoning but without the driver of a deep loot system or unlocking cool combat moves or whatever.

Haven't gotten to the TBS part yet so I can't comment on that one.

One cool thing is they have it ready to go with an Xbox 360 controller from the get go and it works very well in space and on the ground.

Overall, I'd recommend the game at some point. I'd have to play through the game before I give it my recommendation at the current price as if it doesn't add some extra depth to the ground combat as you progress, I think that part is going to become a chore.

I'm really enjoying the space combat though.
