Did Dead Space 2 sell that poorly for this the series to turn into this? I honestly felt DS2 was so devoid of "horror" was it basically an action game anyway

I thought DS2 sold well even outsold DS1 2 to 1 or something like that.

I think it's just the original creators left, the guys at Visceral just wanted to make Dead Space pure shooter and not a horror game ( or just didn't know what to do with it) they add too much action in Dead Space 2 and now with 3 they turned it into complete mindless shooter.

So wrong...

Um what.

Whilst a good game, I did feel that Dead Space 2 was way too action packed. It lacked the cool atmospheric drive of the first.

I must be the only person on earth that found DS2 scary lol. I had trouble sleeping after playing it lol.

It was about the same amount of suspense as the first one and heavily relied on its great sound design. Dudes playing with their TV speakers missed out a lot.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

This game will rock.

At least it's sticking to the tradition of paralleling the Alien films.

More like Alien 3: The Thing. Alien 3 sucked balls. Dead Space 3 will avert that.

I don't give a fuck about pre-order bonuses most of the time, but I NEED THE SUITS.

Suits in Dead Space are awesome, but the reskins make me feel bad inside. I want brand new awesome suits instead of reskins. DS2 only had one DLC suit (which was awesome):

While scanning the OP I thought I read "Evangelion Suit" real quick... :D

I remember the suit Day 1 DLC packs being really helpful in DS1.

Hey codecow, can we get images of the Witness and First Contact suits?

Also, what's the Iron Man suit called? Cause the helmet goes straight on like Iron Man, even has the same sound.

I thought so too. I played it in the Dark at night with no one around with a good sound system. Was amazing.

You don't play these games, right?

Both DS games are great. They have scares, action, atmosphere, and a lot of other cool stuff going on. Plus they're pretty, or else they're pretty gross which is even better!

The 0g movement was much improved in DS2. The suits are slick and the fighting is always brutal. This is one of the best new IPs this generation. Can't wait to continue Isaac's journey.

I look forward to another rocketing through space bit. So rare, but so awesome.

One of my favorite series. I could really connect to Issac on some level. I loved the first game and loved the second as well. It was difficult to play in long chunks because of all the tension

Seeing people still popping up decrying this game as some kind of co-op only shootbang makes my blood boil. Fucking idiots.

They put a lot of effort into making the singleplayer/coop dynamic work story-wise either way. But the game itself has been degraded because of it.
I still need to play both games in my backlog.

This is one of the worst trends to come into gaming this console generation.

I think the part that blows my mind is that in-game stuff is now considered "limited edition" stuff. Whenever I think special edition I always assume there will be artbooks or figurines or soundtracks or something physical to actually make it limited. But having new armor or weapons in-game as bonuses for special editions just rubs me the wrong way.

Still, there is no question that you're losing isolation atmosphere by making an action horror game into co-op.

This largely died with Working Designs.

No Steelbook? What a disappointment.

And those suits look a bit insectoid...ugh, not sure if want. Reminds me a bit of spider's belly. :/

Are they wrong about the original creators leaving or about Dead Space 3 being turned into an action shooter instead of a horror game in space? Tell us why MehGAF is wrong.

All of it. We've always thought of DS as an Action/Horror hybrid. Every iteration of the franchise evolves, of course, and yes, we're trying to appeal to a wider audience, but we want our core fans to be happy first and foremost.

As for the "creators".... I remember the first meetings of Dead Space 1 (January 2006), when there were nine of us in the room throwing ideas around about what we wanted to make. Six of those people are still here, making DS3. Those are the day one folks. Many others here on DS3 came on board some time during DS1 as we scaled up to production.

I hesitate to use the term "creators" though, because AAA game teams are huge (150+), and meaningful contributions come from all over the place. Your favorite feature or moment may have been the Creative Director's idea or it may have been a tester's.
