Skins. Only the console and Limited Edition have a exclusive armor.

See, thats what I thought, but this seems to implies both the armor and the skin:

Hub_Halo4_V4_04.jpg

Wait, what, both the LE and LE Console have DIFFERENT EXCLUSIVE armor?
I don't care about the skins and i don't mind LE has exclusive armor but the console having different armor?
Yeah, its more than a little frustrating. The LE really should just come with all the preorder skins/armor. And the LE console should have the same digital content as the LE, not different.

But the gameplay is the same. They made content for a small community and thats cool of them, but it doesn't effect most COD players. If 343 spends time on making gameplay better and can't push out content for MLG/commentator's most of us won't lose sleep over it. Those communities already cover those venues, and sure it would be nice, but is it really worth going over to the dark side?

So much to address...

They looked at the mess of options that have built up over the years and performed some badly needed house cleaning. They have ensured that perks are items that only affect your character trait and attachments only affect the gun performance. Then they ensured you can put them together like you want within limits. Sounds minor... but that little change means a lot. It means better competitive balance in a game that has a gagillion options to balance and by default is traditionally NOT competitively balanced. It's that starting at the core I'm speaking of and working outward. Their system will also be easier to tune than before as a result.

Second is in the assumption the streaming/shout casting is for a minor audience. It's another place where they start at the core and it benefits EVERYONE. Anyone can stream, and will do so... anyone can shoutcast matches, and will do so. There are literally MILLIONS of people who will create content for youtube and their micro communities in something that springs entirely out of esports.

It would be the same in Halo. It's a bit ironic you mention going over to the dark side - for many, that's exactly what Halo is doing with the specializations/modifications and point streaks.

My above description is not "going over to the dark side". It's taking a fresh look at a shooter that is inherently a competition, and deciding that there is a way to make a game that caters to both hardcore competitive people AND those that are not, and giving the fans tool sets that are good for ALL of them.

I think that means the skin is for the recruit armor, not that you get the recruit armor. Also looked at a few retail sites, they don't mention getting exclusive armor, only an exclusive skin.

The picture says "in game armor & skin."

TBH I'm more upset that I have to buy through Gamestop to get all the swimsuits for DOA5 than the Crackdown orb-distribution of the Halo 4 armors and skins.

You get a skin for the ocean armor, which you unlock.

So by pre-ordering you get the skin. Once you unlock the armor in game, you can use the skin on that armor.

Youtube/Twitch are slowly exploding.

I do agree focus on the game and perfecting that for launch, but if you can make something for us via what Epic did with Gears 3 post launch when bandwidth is lower, it would help us out tremendously.

Bornstellar makes a good point. It's almost impossible and investing on just the standard or LE is good enough for me. Realizing ahead of time that possessing these content are a pain to even think of attempting became silly. When we first found out the details per exclusives from different retailers and now its evidently pointless. Imo.

You know what all these late retailer exclusive bonus announcements do? Make me pre-order as late as possible.

Have fun collecting interest retailers.

I agree here. Aesthetics is fine to be exclusive IMO, but when they make retailer exclusive DLC I'm outtie.

I get it... and there is a fine line between the jokes, jabs, and memes and simple posts that, as u4ix put it have, "decently well thought out reason for it and it isn't baseless hate.

I'm still excited for a new Halo. It's the one game franchise that historically kept me gaming. I'm not on team downer or slurp, but fall somewhere pretty close to u4ix in his post below. Some of that is entirely due to how and what information has been released for H4. Most of what has been released concerns me for the MP, while the things I'm looking for have only been hinted at by Frankie.

Contrast that with Blops 2 info... where I was completely disinterested prior to the recent release of information, it made me stop and go Whoooooaaaaa... and it's the first time CoD ever did that for me. The info released there caters exactly to me in that it is centered around competitive game play and is offering something that is revolutionary in a console shooter.

I want this stuff in Halo - end of story. Not just a spectator mode, but a full suite of features catering to broadcast, commentary, and streaming of game play... and as great as these things are, I want it more than Spartan Ops, Forge, or Theater.

I want someone in 343 like David Vonderhaar, who grabs hold of competitive game play and does something new with it... because I truly believe a game that is balanced for competitive play by default is a game that casual players can enjoy too, and even that all the "fluff" developers place in games today can have a place in very specific play lists in the same game. I don't think the two are mutually exclusive within a game, but that you have to start at the core (competitive balance) and then split the two rather than starting with the fluff and peeling layers to get to the core.

Another thing to note:

One of the constant complaints I hear from people when we ask for anything remotely beneficial to the competitive merit of Halo is that it will somehow be detrimental to the enjoyment of everyone else.

Black Ops 2 is not only adding significant features based on the desires of the competitive community, but they are actually altering classic gamemodes based on how the competitive community plays them. They're adjusting the public SnD and CTF gametypes to be more in-line with competitive gametypes. These are matchmaking-wide alterations to gameplay to be more competitive.

Now lets see how many casuals leave CoD, seeing as how competitive and casual gameplay are diametrically opposed to each other according to casual Halo players.

I don't think retailers are trying to get pennies that way.
Banks on the other hand...

I think it's at least a small part of their business.
Sure it's used to gauge demand, but preorders also sometimes come with small discounts or with games you get some exclusive content, and this should help pay for it.
I think I remember gamestop COD preorders will net you more stuff the earlier you preorder.

Either way, there has got to be some fan website keeping track of this stuff right?
I remember some javascript questionaire that will narrow down a retailer based on what you wanted out of your Reach preorders, Is there something like that for 4?
Also have there ever been any time sensitive preorder bonuses for Halo like their have for COD?

Halo is an objective game, it just is, Halo is at its best during Objective team play, theres no denying it

(My) massive H2 nostalgia boners come some frequently from Halo 2 was the incredible Objective based MAP DESIGN and GAMEPLAY that followed suit

tl;dr
armor mods + obj = winning
map design will decide how h4 is remembered
halo = obj > slayer
Sadly, the MM population and the MM setup disagrees with you wholeheartingly.
I feel terrible for laughing at that. Damn you and your .gifs, Plywood.

Waaaaaaait. So, the unicorn thing (trying to catch up)... I've seen people say it's real... people say it's fake.

I want to dress up like a unicorn. Will pay $399.98 and not a penny more.

This is a longer post, but it you're interested in spectator mode chat, please read.

The thing that really allowed COD to fully invest in "supporting e-sports" is that they 1) have a massive multiplayer audience, way bigger than Halo currently, and 2) have a massive YouTube gameplay/commentary community.
The people who watch gameplay commentaries are the same people who would interested in watching shout casting.

Spectator Mode, in the way it would be really useful to large tournaments, is a huge undertaking, a lot of internal bandwidth.
The spectator mode features Gears added post launch aren't that big of a deal, but aren't necessarily more useful then screen capturing, granted much cheaper.

But the features COD has added, are a huge step in the right direction, and require a lot more man power.
In order to devote that type of man power, there needs to be that large audience.

In 343 Industries' defense, when Halo 4 features were being planned out, the small, competitive crowd that was (sorta) asking for spectator mode was completely invested in MLG.
Adding a spectator mode like gears, just wouldn't be all that helpful, as MLG has the experience and tools to screen cap.

Now that MLG has dropped Halo, that small spectator mode would really help get these grass roots tournaments started up, but by that time it was just too late in the dev schedule.

So for Halo 4, maybe a small spectator mode can be patched in.
If not, we grew ourselves without it once, we can do it again.

Hopefully the gameplay of halo 4 is super fun to play, enjoyable to watch, and promotes competitive play.
If it does, then competitive Halo will flourish, with or without spectator mode.

I hope the competitive crowd can move past the lack of spectator mode, and concentrate on the gameplay elements, as those are much more important right now.

It's been confirmed that pre-order bonuses are just (armor specific) skins, not armor itsself.

Exclusive armor for LE is okay, IMO. Even if i didn't buy LE...
EDIT lol, that "FOTUS" armor for LE console is horrible. Don't care about it suddenly.

Doesn't help 343i doesn't seemingly even try to clear up confusion.
