Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about Rayman Legends Wii U.
is this BK 'news' too much of a rumor to make it a new topic for discussion?

Blimey, I wish journalists working in the gaming press had a clue what they're talking about:

Of course, as the Wii U version is actually a port, the most likely explanation for visual differences is that the PS3 version is an older build, perhaps an E3 demo, while the Wii U version is up to date.

Would he be saying the same thing if he was talking about the PC SKU which is also a port..? The visual differences are because they've made some effort and are using better textures, probably better AA and definitely v-synch.

I dunno.

Michael Pachter was pretty specific with the October 25th date. Sounds legit.

I'll make the topic because I want to talk about the potential of NFC, but it's the question that brings up the October 25th release date.

october 25 is a thursday. i don't know when bk starts their promotion stuff, or changes it over, but that would lead right into that sunday pretty nicely.

take that, john harker.

I do not think there is any chance in hell Nintendo gives retailers a 6 week turn around on launch details to launch. That is ridiculous.

What would prevent the retailers from knowing about it a week or two before? We're only talking a three week difference between an Oct. 28 launch and a Nov. 18 launch. If 6 weeks is too short but 9 weeks is A-Okay, then just tell them after Labor Day, and then it's ~8 weeks.

Why do they do it though? What's the benefit to Nintendo?

Very little. There's a little concern with parental controls as different regions have different parental controls, so region locking is nice from a legal standpoint on that front. Other than that? It only benefits and helps retailers.

A moment of silence for Meelow... Can't believe yet another one bites the dust.

Also, just how plausible is an october release date?

You realize this kind of thing actually assumes she did poll them, right?

And not just totally lied about it?

I don't know her. But I think all she says about the Wii U eShop and the games on the service could be true. Explain how most indies developers are excited about the Wii U service. The best reason is probably what she says Nintendo is going to offer a bigger cut of the digital pie compared to other services.

She also says that Sega is planning to release XBLA/PSN games on the Wii U eShop. I think it's pratically a given to see this as well.

Give her a chance.

My only question is what would Nintendo gain by giving developers a smaller revenue cut on digital eShop games than XBLA/PSN? Especially when every developer already prefers XBLA/PSN over WiiWare.

Edit: My question is targeted at those questioning the rumor.

I guess it is possible, just seems like too tight of a deadline+Nintendo following 2006 exactly up to this point.

Oh and listening to this a few times- this could be me completely going off the deep end, but that conversation definitely made me think that Monster Hunter is coming. They mentioned a Wii U launch game in Japan using online, and then made the quote about big stuff being lined up for Wii U in Japan.

Also, given 8-4's localization history with Monster Hunter..

If Nintendo manage to get both Dragon Quest X and a Monster Hunter of some description for the U then both Sony and Microsoft might as well not bother releasing their next gen consoles in that territory next year. And Miiverse will probably crash lol. All Nintendo would need then is an exclusive Final Fantasy to complete the set lol

Sony would basically own Japan if this happened.

Edit: Nintendo would own Japan, my bad.

Huh?

Explain please?

In the past, Monster Hunter, Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, and Pokemon have had a big effect on the sales of hardware in Japan. If Nintendo can get most of these on their console, they would own Japan. Especially since Japan pretty much won't buy anything Microsoft, and Wii U is coming out a year or two earlier than PS4.

I don't think you meant to type Sony did you?

Oh so you meant Nintendo, but is it even possible for Nintendo to get both DQ and MH?

Does anybody in here see a capcom 5 kind of deal happening again (but with other japanese devs like level-5 or konami) once the wii u launches?

But then Nintendo literally owns Japan if that happens.

They would have Pokemon, DQ, and MH.

Damn.

Yep. Flawless victory.

While I have no real insight on whether that would happen or not. Some kind of cross promotion between the two again would be very exciting.

I think you missed what I'm saying since MH3 and DQX are currently on Nintendo consoles. And Nintendo does currently have a 70% market share in Japan.[/QUOTE]

Wait what

*Googles*

Holy. Shit.

Amazing. If Nintendo ever gets MH like they did with DQ, I really hope they try hard to bring it over to the west and market it.

Uh, I think the rumor is for the other way around, with Nintendo taking a smaller cut/giving devs a bigger cut.

6 weeks is a long time for retailers to prepare and advertise and whatever. It'd be more of an issue of logistics for Nintendo, whether they can build up enough stock and distribute everything (and paying for that distribution, which will cost more with shorter notice).

MS still has Cave and other shooter companies going for them. That's good for...thousands of users.

My question was targeted at those who think the rumor is anything but common sense. It would be illogical for Nintendo to take a bigger cut from eshop sales than XBLA/PSN when most devs already have very little confidence in how Nintendo handles digitial distribution. Obviously Nintendo will take a smaller cut.

I think the idea is no one expected anything but Nintendo to match XBLA.
Cuz Y'know... Nintendo online anything is assumed to be a fail.

Is anyone here thinking about selling their 360 and/or PS3 to get the WiiU? I've thought about it but my library of digital 360 games (many of which are unplayed) makes me want to hold off on that system and The Last of Us and Beyond make me want to hold off on the PS3. Selling both on Ebay along with the trade in credit I already have would easily cover the cost of the system. Heck if I sold the Vita as well and with some trade credit I already have and some extra money thrown in I could get start my Wii U collection off with a bang and grab all of the games I'm interested in (i.e. NintendoLand, NSMBU, Pikmin 3, ZombiU, Rayman Legends, Assassin's Creed 3, Batman: AC, Darksiders 2, Mass Effect 3, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Project P-100).

Nope. Keeping my PS3 for the PS3-only Japanese games (this is like the main reason why I even bought one). Besides I never sell my consoles or games anyway even if they rot in the cabinet.

Nope. I live by the rule of never sell your video game systems/games. Get what you can with cash at launch and pick up a new game every pay check or something. :)

My philosophy here is that if I feel I have to sell an older game system to afford a new one, it's no longer time to spend money.

?

They have MH. Or are you talking about on Wii U?

Yeah, on Wii U, and staying on the 3DS (But that's kind of a given since theres 3G and 4 will be coming to 3DS) if they manage too keep Monster Hunter through the Wii U's life, the Wii U would be a guaranteed success in Japan.

Also, sorry for confusing you like 2 or 3 times :0

I'm with on this. I never sell my consoles or games. I currently have an Odyssey 2, NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, Playstation, PS2, PS3, Xbox360, Wii, Saturn, Dreamcast, and a Genesis. I like to pull them out every once in a while and fire them up. As a matter of fact I need to pull the Saturn out and fire up Panzer Dragoon Saga, now that's a game Sega needs to remake on the WiiU.

I sold my GBA to get a 3DS and I've regretted it ever since :(
(I thought I would be able to get the few games I had for it on the 3DS's VC and so far I've recovered 2 with the ambassador program)
I'm never selling my consoles/handhelds ever again.
