If you're saying it could possibly fail and collapse on these gaming publishers, I agree. It's possible.

I'm not saying they have a good plan, I'm just explaining what their plan is, and why they have employed it.
If they do attempt that, and they can't pull Assassin's Creed style instant hits out their hat consistently, it will collapse, and maybe they can, certainly Hollywood and the big four in music do it very successfully, it's not just Assassin's Creed really either, BF3 was a well calculated hit, as was Red Dead, Skylanders too really.

I still think it's absurdly risky, but yeah, all four have done it this generation at least once.

I giggled.

I have nothing against IOS but you have to admit that the game would not play anything like it does on consoles if it was made for IOS.

It would be easy to see why someone would be angry if Bayonetta 2 was announced for IOS instead of being made for consoles/PC or whatever else has physical controls and the horsepower to run the game.

Honestly I'm kinda pumped to see what the WiiU does for the game's IQ. Neither Bayonetta nor Vanquish are particularly pleasing to look at (sub-HD etc). Bring it on!

I wonder how much more detailed Bayonetta's ass will be in this one?

Platinum single-handedly made me want to buy a WiiU. I went from indifferent, to slightly tempted after watching P100, and now I'll consider buying it near launch (or as soon as Bayo2 is released). Well played, Nintendo. And I really hope it's the beginning of a success story for Platinum.

The entire generation was built around this strategy. What I'm suggesting is not a new idea they may try to employ in the future; it is what they are doing right now, and what they have been doing for quite some time. I think that's the frame of reference I'm coming from here.

In fact, think of it this way; what sort of worked for a while (this escalation of production costs to eliminate competition) may quickly be spiraling out of control in a way that they can no longer handle, but can also no longer stop, as they have developed the taste in many "core" gamers for constantly increasing production values and scope in their games.

Right, I'm not saying otherwise, it's just a sucker punch for fans truly, but as I said at least it's getting done.

It's basically in the category of "it changed platforms, need to buy a new one if I want to enjoy it"

Many people were salty for FF7 hopping to PS1 when Nintendo had FF1 to FF6. It's not too far off from this scenario. Just take it or leave it.

The difference is, the film industry can produce a hit, 95% of the time, with something completely new, because of how refined their marketing in.

Movie industry took a bath this year. Nobody knows the secret formula for making hit movies. John Carter? Cowboys and Aliens? Battleship? These were supposed to be mega-hits.

Yeah, thats not a huge deal to everyone, I think one should understand that. As a PC gamer I drop more than $360 every other year on GPU's with no game in particular in mind. I can understand and even respect however that not everyone feels the same, so thats fine. I just don't think the:

"Would you really spend 300 bucks on a console with a few games you like that may very well have even MORE games that you like throughout its 6 year lifespan!"

as a sound talking point for most/everyone. I would wager most people do exactly that when they buy a console at launch.

THIS is what's important. Nintendo just took Bayonetta by the hand from her grave and pulled her up for another round. Damn the fact that it's not on PS360, it's HAPPENING, period.

Someone needs to 'shop Iwata's head onto Rodin's body in the last cutscene.

It's really not, the publishers have established plenty of B-tier franchises this generation, ones that couldn't compete with the biggest games.

(Six or seven people requested a Wall of Shame.)
A reminder, for history, that the above responses were these gamers gratitude for the unexpected resurrection of a dead franchise that they apparently love.
I'm totally standing by being torn by this announcement at first for reasons I expanded on a bit later and can't see what's so incredibly shameful about it.

I'm honestly offended that reaction is equated to "lol nintendo kiddy games, I'll never buy that shit" posts.

Don't toy with my heart like that...and Psychonauts 2?

Of course! Don't forget Shemue 3, Half Life 3, Final Fantasy Versus, Final Fantasy XV through XX, Uncharted 4, Halo 5. All of them, exclusive to the Wii U. Just how Nintendo rolls.

Wonderful 101 is made by the Director of Bayonetta (and DMC,RE2,OKAMI,Viewtiful Joe) and is coming out exclusively for WiiU near launch.

How can you possibly say that you don't care about a system that will have 2 exclusive Platinum titles within its first year on market?

I just don't get it, it's definitely sports team mentality bullshit. People REALLY need to get over it.

As Ive already stated, just because kamiyas name is on the box doesn't mean I'll like the game.

Platinum is only one developer, if the majority of third parties stay clear of wii u or just offer gimmick-filled ports, it's still a loss.

And I didn't say I don't care about the system. I'm saying that Bayo 2 is the hook that is got me on board, but I very much doubt that their will be enough content in the long term to keep me there. I'll be very suprised if I still have my wii U a year or two after I bought it. History isn't looking good in nintendos favor on that front.

Sure. Just as it's easy to see why people are pissed off here.

I still giggled.

The generation has been a constant exercise in the gradual ebb of the "B" tier franchise. You're simply wrong here. It isn't like I'm pulling this concept out of thin air, or as if it's a personal pet belief; the recognition of the death of the "mid tier" franchise is well observed by lots of people. It's been a gradual but consistently growing problem.

I'm also interested in that.

Working to a single format suits Platinum best, because they like pushing hardware. Although this will obviously have a lot of legacy code. Gives them much more opportunity to polish up a single version though, and Nintendo published puts it in much safer hands than Sega so more incentive and time to do it probably.

Would you be willing to pay $300 for a console + $60 for a game if said game was the only thing that interested you on said console? I know some GAFfers bought PS3s for like $800 just for FF XIII or whatever, but people who buy a console for one single game are in the minority.
But those same people are pretty much championing the alternatives THAT HAVEN'T EVEN BEEN ANNOUNCED YET. For all we know, Bayonetta 2 might be more of an incentive to buy a Wii U than what PS4 & Nextbox get. A lot of people seem to be in for those two to satisfy their inner graphic whores, not because they will 100% surely offer better games. I mean, really, at this point Wii U seems to be offering highly promising:

-2d platformers (Rayman Legends & Mario)
-horror (Zombie U)
-fighting game (Tekken Tag Tournament 2)
-action/adventure (Bayonetta 2)
-JRPG (Xenoblade director & team's next project)
-party game
-actiony strategy games (Pikmin 3 & The Wonderful 101)
and whatnot

I mean, how limited does your taste in games have to be not to have interest in any of these games? How much better can PS4 & Xbox 720 be in this front?

Yeah baby! Best news of the day.
No really though Half-Life 3...?

Oh and you forgot Portal 3. For shame shm.

More power to you, but you're part of a minority, really. Like those poor sods who bought $599 PS3s for Team Ico's next game :lol

I haven't seen anyone asking for it to be ported to PS4/720 (I might've missed those posts though, so I'm not saying there's absolutely no posts like that ITT). What I've seen though is people being disappointed it's not a multiplat WiiU/PS360 release, since the original was a PS360 game.

Are the angry reactions because PS3 fans won't ever get a good version of the franchise now? *raises shield*

But seriously, as a big fan of the first I'm just glad we're getting a release, the better if they can make use of the new hardware and make it pretty. Where Platinumgames go true fans will follow.

I just find it weird that people who like Japanese games would be against getting a Wii U, which is bound to have many more great Japanese games.

You put MGS at borderline earlier right? So what, four million is B-tier in this debate?

That's not the mid tier people talk about, that's the stuff that fails to even hit two million.

Wonder if they can manage to lock the game at 60 this time. I know very few games do it, but I'd like to see it for once.

Right, okay.

I will clarify explicitly that I was joking.

Yeah, you just have to keep in mind that there are actual people with actual sources on GAF. We have journalists, game developers, etc. posting here too.

Don't fly too close to the sun or you'll get burned.

Not when Sega canceled it in the first place?

FFS

Look I'm not saying I'm not happy, the fact that the game in getting done is great news, thank you Nintendo.

Now, if I happened to support the first game in PS360 and now I have to get a new system I might or might not be interested in to play the sequel it's not going to sit well, no matter what.
