Has the Japanese Culture Expert meme hit this thread yet?

Platinum just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Japanese culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in America where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in Japan, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the japanese public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase Bayonetta 2 for the Wii U, nor will they purchase any of Platinum's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Platinum has alienated an entire market with this move.

Platinum, publicly apologize and make Bayonetta 2 multiplatform or you can kiss your business goodbye.

Hes an expert though. So that means its true, right?

I can't imagine the rage that will explode out of computer screens everywhere once Nintendo purchases Platinum as a 2nd party developer after their deal with Sega is over with. (just speculation, but I wouldn't be suprised, Sega clearly isn't interested in publishing their games anymore, and Nintendo is looking to diversify it's portfolio. It would be like Monolith last gen except even more amazing.

At that point Nintendo would have Platinum, Monolith, Sakurai and EAD, so basically almost all the Japanese development talent I care about and really almost everything I'm interested in in the console space.

It can, and that would be great if it does... but the Wii-U looks like the same Wii garbage. It's a system with a gimmicky controller that will have great Mario and Zelda games, and a rare amount of good third party games. Mario and Zelda games don't interest me as much as they did in the N64 days and prior, and I have no intention of buying a Wii-U for one game.

I really don't see myself being able to afford multiple next gen consoles so even though I love Bayonetta, I'd rather put my money on a system I can expect to have more games to my liking.

I understand Nintendo is willing to put the money up for this, but that doesn't mean nobody else would have. If Nintendo didn't green light this already someone else would have in the next couple years no doubt. I'm just disappointed they were the ones to snatch it up.

Yeah... no doubt at all......

What the fuck is this shit.

Go ahead and laugh, I guess it's cool to make fun of everyone who is upset this is a Wii-U exclusive.

Bayonetta is one of my favorite games of all time and I have no intention of buying a Wii-U... I wouldn't mind if it was a Microsoft or Sony exclusive because at least they still have other games to play on their system that are in the vein of Bayonetta.

Putting Bayonetta 2 exclusively on a family friendly Mario console is the dumbest fucking thing I have ever heard of.

I never wanna see gaf give gamefaqs shit.

So basically, every single gamer has a right to be annoyed in a couple years when Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed, etc are all only available on next-gen Microsoft and Sony consoles and not the current ones?

If Assassin's Creed 4 turned out to be PS4 exclusive prior to the systems release then yeah there would probably be similar outrage

why do they have to steal our games?

lol, what? "No doubt"? What in the world makes you think that Bayonetta 2 would have ever come out without Nintendo? It's not like they had to fight anyone for the game.

Pfff, Platinum would have left a complete dev team on stand by for years while they would have waited for a publisher to fund the game? Are there any doubts?

Your compilation post comes off as a little smug, implying that everyone has the means to buy every system and anyone disappointed in the slightest that they won't get to play it on their system of choice is some kind of ridiculous blow-up rife for mockery.

If Sony picked this game up and made it a Vita exclusive, I'd find it hard to believe you wouldn't be disappointed in some way if you have no plans to buy a Vita. Wouldn't it be frustrating for you if you couldn't buy a Vita in this hypothetical or a Wii U in reality?

Yeah there is some completely irrational ranting going on, and the game might not have been made otherwise. However, I think there's a huge gap between that and being disappointed in the situation because you are not getting a Wii U for whatever reason when this game does not change that viability for a person.

While i agree that it is normal and ok to be disappointed after hearing a game that you like isn't coming out for a console you plan on getting, that does not excuse some of the posts in this thread. Especially the ones in the wall of shame.

I'm with the people who think this has actually passed XIII.

That game at least ended up doing several millions and was apart of a huge franchise. This is a niche game that while hopefully it does well could in all likely hood do under a million and it still causing a shit storm as big as FF XIII or DQ XIX/X.

Interesting move. Didn't like the first one, and wouldn't buy this one unless something radically changed on it. However, it is a hardcore franchise. Not understanding the logic, but I guess if Nintendo wants to shed their image as not being for hardcore gamers they have start somewhere.

This game wouldn't even exist had nintendo not done this. Now we get it, and exclusive to a system so that it's optimized to run great...and we are pissed off about it?

Only Nintendo

Assassin's Creed wasn't left for dead with no one interested in publishing another.

It doesn't matter, I personally am fine with this announcement, my original point was that I can understand why there are some who are frustrated

The faux disbelief at peoples anger is worse than the offending posts themselves IMO.

(Six or seven people requested a Wall of Shame.)

Situation: A beloved IP, Bayonetta, is dead. The likelyhood of a revival seems astronomically miniscule. Out of nowhere, Nintendo funds development of a sequel, instantly reviving the revered franchise from certain oblivion.

The immediate response of certain enthusiasts was as follows...

Thank you for your work.

*writes down names*

How terrible.

Actually, you guys are all wrong. Nintendo didnt stole Bayonetta 2...
Nintendo SAVED Bayonetta 2, Nintendo made it happen. SEGA has just no money, didnt you heard their reports ? They re now focusing only on their big brands. They even have big problems to print copies of Anarchy Reign. Bayonetta 2 was supposed to be cancelled and thats it.
Now Bayonetta 2 EXISTS. Instead of being pissed of, maybe you should reconsider buying a Wii U.

Pretty much this. Some of the reactions on twitter and such are clearly over the top, but I find it hard to believe people can't imagine why this might annoy people.

I don't even want to think of the blood bath that would follow.

The thing that upsets me the most is that I've never played Bayonetta. I know that the best Bayonetta experience is found on the 360 because of the poor PS3 port. However, I don't have a 360. I just figured I'd wait for a Bayonetta 2 if there ever was one. I thought they'd give the PS3 version better care the next time around. To find out that I have to buy a Wii U just to play it freaking sucks. The only Wii games that interested me were No More Heroes, Super Mario Galaxy, and Skyward Sword. Unless the Wii U has several amazing games that catch my interest, I don't see myself every playing Bayonetta 2.

Can we stop with the salt and tears nonsense.

Doesn't exactly make you look any better, guys.

Makes you look just as insane as the ragers.

also we seriously need to put in a NO NINTENDO NO BAYONETTA 2 in the title or something. I think some are rather confused about that part.

It's getting crazaaay in here so I'm gonna "try" to bail out.

Chill out guys. It's just a goddam game. it's not that serious.

Platinum will probably have a larger budget working with Nintendo than Sega ever would have gave them to make the game in the first place. Great to see Nintendo spending some of that warchest, now just purchase platinum so that all but 1 or 2 of my favorite japanese developers are all under the same umbrella!

One of them is just a ":(" from a quick skim.

People pretending that there wouldn't be similar fits if Sony had turned this into a PSV exclusive as in the example are fooling themselves. Many of those currently being smug would presumably be the one's throwing fits and they'd most certainly not give a shit about anyone saving Bayonetta.

It's pretty much a tough love move on scenario. The game was pretty much dead, Sega owned the damn IP, meaning anyone that wanted it would have to pay royalties or buy it out right. I doubt anyone was willing to do that so Nintendo saved this.

The most you can get is an ahh mann, oh well response. being angry at either party is just plain ridiculous.

I don't get why every Bayonetta fan isn't jumping for joy. Bayonetta 2 will be on the most advanced HD console on the market. Oh and Bayonetta 2 actually exists on a platform with buttons.

Well they are certainly looking into developing partnerships. Whether that leads anywhere, who knows.
