These reactions are not surprising though, some people get mad over the fact that Nintendo puts their first party games on Nintendo platforms.

Publishers are dying to fund several year old Japanese character action games made at the tail end of a generation and dumped by the original publisher.

Take Two would cancel GTA V today if they knew they could get their hands on that sweet, sweet Bayonetta 2 money.

Eh. If Nintendo is willing to fund it, someone else might have as well eventually. Sega once they restructured a bit, or Square-Enix for example. The first did sell over a million and got mostly good critical reception, so it's probably still a safer bet than coming up with your own new IP.

Here a great fan of Bayonetta than only can see a second part as an awesome news. Nintendo exclusive? Well, Nintendo had helped in the development when nobody did. The took a risk.

Why nobody said nothing when Epic made Gears of War for Xbox 360? Or Mass Effect?

What I can't understand is the hate to Nintendo. It's like if a game comes out for one of their consoles it doesn't worth your attention. Is sad because probably you've missed a lot of great games for Wii and you'll miss a lot of great games for Wii U.

THIS.
FUCKING.
THREAD.

I can't cope. I actually CAN'T cope.

Nintendo really brought out the dark side of GAF....actually no. The dark side of EVERYONE.

So is Nintendo the good guy for resurecting a dead beloved franchise?
Or are they the bad guy for ressurecting a dead beloved franchise and making it exclusive to their console?

Fuck it. I'm done. I'm going to bed.

I don't get why every Bayonetta fan isn't jumping for joy. Bayonetta 2 will be on the most advanced HD console on the market. Oh and Bayonetta 2 actually exists on a platform with buttons.

Anecdotal but my entire group of friends and I are huge Bayonetta fans (and Platinum fans). We're all extremely excited about this game coming back from the dead and are looking forward to Wii Us for it (Granted, we were also getting them for Wonderful 101 anyways).

I think most of the people complaining about it either really weren't big Bayonetta fans or are being hyperbolic for the sake of stirring shit up. Every additional game Platinum gets to make is another jewel in any game collection.

Wow, I would never have expected this. I feel a bit bad for people who wanted it multiplatform, but I'm very happy that its being made at all. Good for Kamiya for being able to find a company that will support his endeavors in P100 and Bayo2, and good on Nintendo for stepping in and working one of the best developers around. Looking forward to something great.

Nintendo is basically damned if they do and damned if they don't with so many people.

"Nintendo doesn't get the good games. Fuck them!"

"Nintendo is stealing my games!! Fuck them!!"

Damn you, Nintendo! So all I need to know is a release date, if it's not gonna be a launch game (highly unlikely) then hopefully it will come after a price drop, because $350 is too damn much for a Wii U!

Square didn't do that at all.

They had to completely rebrand it so it really was pretty much a brand new Ip. They even reported how much effort they had to do for the PC.

It's not like just any company could front it and then have the Bayonetta name.

Square as it stands isn't sharing anything with THQ and the game is completely removed from the True Crime IP.

I hope to god the "Nintendo stole our games" becomes a meme. God that was priceless. I guess moments like these are why I love and joined Gaf haha.

It's ok, man. Nintendo will eventually buy Platinum, and then we'll have first row seats to watch the mass suicide.

It'll be great.

Well yes, if a studio has cash for "eventually", why not. But in the real world, when you need money, and someone is willing to pay you money, do you say, "na, I'll wait, someone else will come along and give me money".

That joy might be somewhat tempered by the unexpected costs involved is all. You can still be happy you might get to play it someday, but sad it'll put a unplanned dent in your wallet if you weren't planning on a Wii U. But, yes, better to have the option than not. No question.

Most people I know super pissed-off about this seemed oblivious that the game had been officially cancelled months ago and the chances of a Bayonetta 2 were next to nil. I think once that becomes more common knowledge the drama surrounding this will probably die down.

You know.. i though we would have this kind of thread for Monster Hunter but for bayonetta was unexpected. It'll still fun though. Will be awesome going back in a year and reading this.

Activision, you mean.

Square-Enix essentially bought the development without buying the IP with regard to True Crime/Sleeping Dogs.

That doesn't imply that an IP cannot be purchased. That being said, I doubt it would have been worth it for S-E, or other publishers.

Yeah, I really don't think that is well-known at all.

I'm really excited to see what kind of graphical improvements PG can do to Bayonetta 1 on the Wii U. Wonderful 101 is by far their best looking game yet.

I can't laugh this much on such a late hour...I can't

I'm not upset about this at all and honestly as a Platinum game fan this news makes me even more happy. Not only was Bayonetta 2 cancelled at first, but P-100 was announced as a Wii U exclusive, that was the first game I was interested in getting for Wii U. Then suddenly Bayonetta 2 gets announced....certainly makes me feel better in my choice of getting a Wii U at some point.

Doesn't hurt I'm actually finding other Wii U games that are interesting me too.

So you would rather it not to come out at all? Because thats what would of happened until Nintendo revived the project.

I understand this, but i fail to see how it is "childish" to be disappointed in not being able to play a game you like because you either cannot or don't want to drop 300 bucks on a console just to have it. The fact that it exists is great but i can understand how not being able to actually play it if you were a fan of the original, can be a bit frustrating to some people.

Again not talking about the Twitter psychos giving Kamiya death threats or the wall of shame people, just those annoyed that they cannot play the game without dropping 300 bucks.( assuming they had no interest in the WiiU)

I didn't realize that Gears of War and Mass Effect were multiplatform before going to the 360

It'll be nice when I can express my frustration about Bayonetta 2 without being put on a wall of shame, mocked or told how I should feel about it. Maybe in a week.

Ummm...what? Who said anything about Sleeping Dogs?

I imagine it might be reasonable for Nintendo to help publish that if it wouldn't strain their relationship with Tecmo.

That's actually a really good point; if I'm not mistaken, Itagaki and Tecmo did not part on amicable terms, especially with the Team Ninja exodus that took a good chunk of their senior staff away.

That why those wall of shame post are lame as hell.

Still some people are ridiculous.

Rarely does Nintendo buy Japanese (or any) companies. Long-term first party publishment agreements are much better.

They have in fact bought some in the past though. Including the somewhat recent (and well praised) purchase of Monolith Soft. With all the Nintendo publishing deals Platinum is getting it's definitely starting to seem more of a matter of "when" rather than "if". Only time will tell though.

I do mean Activision.

Thing is even Nintendo seemingly didn't buy out the rights to Bayo.

Why would any third party (much less when SE has it's own type of Character/Action RPG hybrid in Kingdom Hearts) try to buy out the Ip when the first did a just a tad over a million?

This isn't like Sleeping Dogs and SE buying a brand and Open World game set up because we have games in the genre selling crazy amounts like GTA and RDR. This is Character action where the highest hovers between 5-6 Million.

You're right - making sure that Platinum Games stays exclusive to Nintendo, but only announcing it for each game, is probably the best route for entertainment. I don't actually expect Nintendo to buy them out, haha; yeah, it makes more sense to do as you say.
