Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate announced for Wii U/3DS, coming to West, no 3DS online

but I hope people don't forget to buy Ultimate on 3DS as well since it has the advantage of playing anywhere you go.

Yeah, this really concerns me. Going by this thread, it's as if there's no hype for the 3DS version at all. I really want the portable version to succeed because there's a lot us who really enjoy portable MH.

I bought a 3DS just for this (and Etrian 4), so I'm very excited for the 3DS version. If I ever get a Wii U I'll get that version too and take advantage of the crossplay. But for now I want that 3DS version.

At worst we'll get 3G and 4. We're safe for a couple of years. I don't see them not bring 4 3DS over. I think those two games could last forever and speaking as a portable MH fan - getting 3G over here was my main worry.

So does Capcom no longer suck?
Between Ace Attorney 5 and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, I'd say Capgod is back!

I never played a MH game before..only the Tri demo which I was so desperate to try, I actually bought a copy from eBay.

I liked what I played. The whole concept seemed very appealing, but I could see that time limit becoming bothersome.

In the end I didn't buy Tri because I just didn't have the time to dedicate towards a game of that scale. Xenoblade remains about 30% completed despite owning it since UK launch for the same reason.

Maybe this time.
Monster Hunter is not story driven like Xenoblade, not having much time to play games is not much of a problem (unless you are looking for Gobul Lantern+, lol). You can do a hunt here and there, and it's easy to find an online room suitable for your needs.

Ffffff. Having put a couple hundred hours into Tri (and my brother, over 1200 hours), I really don't need to buy this.

But I will. :(

I guess I'm looking forward to the other weapon classes. Having mastered SnD, lance, and swax (and never using GS, LS, or bowgun online), it felt like Tri didn't have too many options. Dual swords look pretty badass.

Well, preordered the Monster Hunter 3G HD Ver. Wii U Premium Set from Japan, to go with my Japanese copy of MH3G bought at release.

I'm crazy, it cost a fortune but did it anyway.

Where did you preorder the bundle? or do you live in Japan?

im looking forward to that bundle also :)

haha theyre so stupid for not enabling online functionality with this game. I be they would have sold a lot more 3ds consoles, I know I would have bought one. cant wait for phantasy star online 2, soul sacrifice, persona 4, little big planet. vita rulezzzz
Gj making fun of braindead fanboys
I hope
.

Nope in Europe but preordered at nin-nin-game.com. Warning though as it can be quite expensive, especially for shipping which is only by FEDEX for home consoles.
529€ all-in, but I also took NSMBU for a total of 583€ all-in.

You may be able to get it for cheaper if you searched but as time is limited to be sure to get one without having to wait for weeks or months (this is a MH bundle from Japan after all)...I went ahead and did it.

I want it bad but even so I think it may be unhealthy to spend so much on this ^^; Coming months are gonna be though on finances. I have the money but you never know what may happen in the future so...

cool...i read another thread that made it sound like some dark souls level patience, what's the longest you guys've taken to take down a monster? the payoff is basically seeing it dead and looting it too, right? because i never really hear people talk about a narrative, is the thing

It's not quite as brutal as Dark Souls. You'll never just randomly die because a dragon you didn't see breaths fire on you or anything like that. If you die, you were either unprepared or lack knowledge of the monster you are hunting.

You get 50 minutes to kill a monster, but it's always more than enough time. An inexperienced hunter may take upwards to 40 minutes to take down Tigrex the first time they encounter it, but once you learn it's moves and attack patterns (and with the right gear) you can take it down in 15-30 minutes depending on how good you are.

The game has minimal story and it's for the better. Monster Hunter is all about the gameplay. Go on hunts, collect materials, craft weapons/armor, fight stronger monsters. No bullshit.

Nintendo is pulling out the big guns!...

Depending on how well Dream Drop Distance does I can foresee Kingdom Hearts 3 jumping to Wii U or perhaps multi-platform. I'm totally fine with it as long as Japanese devs finally get the chance to get used to HD consoles next gen and can save on dev costs I'm all for it.

I hope enough Wii U owners buy the game. Unfortunately, MH 3 Ultimate is unlikely to get the big marketing campaign MH Tri received since this is a glorified port of an expansion port based on MH Tri. In addition, Capcom is ultimately asking Japanese gamers to buy the same basic game again as it came out as Portable 3rd and Monster Hunter Tri G. Clearly, that's why Capcom is offering the Wii U bundle for MH 3 Ultimate HD to help entice early adopters.

I disagree, at least in US/EU. I think this will get a fairly large campaign, remember it's new for the rest of us and will be the west's first HD MonHun. Plus both Nintendo and Capcom have come out guns blazing with this announcement, it's obviously a key title to Nintendo and something they consider a "megaton." And remember, I believe they were behind Tri's big NA push (resulting in the best international sales of any MonHun by a significant amount.)

Heh. For my first time up against Diablos, I foolishly used the paralysis SnS. I ran out of potions and patience, but for some reason I went through with it and killed it with 12 seconds left. THAT, my friends, was a true sense of euphoric victory.

It's a shame because a lot of the "no 3DS online no buy" crowd are missing out on a massive single player mode that can alone clock you well over 100 hours. Especially in the case of Tri G which is much expanded.

And by single player mode I mean single player mode, not soloing multiplayer quests. Tri had a very nicely thought out single player village mode which had a semi-persistent world going on the island. Monsters would show up sometimes, day/night cycle, and other neat stuff. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Tri G has that same system for the village, doesn't it? But even after all that and you still want more, multiplayer becomes a challenge you can take upon yourself if you so choose, and I'm STILL at it in MHFU, fighting through G-Rank myself..

There's nothing wrong with doing the single player stuff on the U. If anything, you'll get a widescreen view and nicer visuals with the u-tablet controller minus the 3D.

If you do all your 3DS gaming at home and you're also getting a U, there might not be much reason to get the 3DS version unless you have a bunch of local Mon-hun friends who own 3Des.

I agree with you.

I have played Tri the most as single player and I sank around 100 hours in it, with 5* missions still to get completed.
In my experience it's a game that needs dedication but killing a new monster for the first time may be a very rewarding experience.

On the other hand, I don't like too much that best weapons/armoursets can be obtained only in multiplayer, and that the monsters not available in single player are said to be much better than their off-line counterparts.

Tri G seems perfect for people like us who prefer to play solo. You can solo the majority, if not all, of the online monsters with the help of two Cha-Cha companions.

Running down the clock, your potions, and your lives then killing it at the last second is one of the best feelings in gaming ever.

I think I'm going to compile an FAQ later tonight. So far I've got the following, anybody else have suggestions?

Q. Is MH3U a new game? An HD port of Tri?

Q. What gameplay differences are there between Tri and MH3U?

Q. How much more content does MH3U have compared to Tri?

Q. Can I import my Tri save to this game?

Q. Why doesn't the 3DS version have online?

I still can't help but wonder what progress if any was made in the PS3 original before the big switch happened.

Still funny that the Wii U is getting the first HD game in NA, and pretty much the first to use PS360-grade shaders and the like from MT Framework on a console in HD!

Obviously the PS3 version would've looked WAY better, but still, this is the best the game has ever gotten, sad that certain limitations make MH4 look worse, they were too ambitious IMO.

MH3G was a suitable formula on the 3DS; the confined areas allowed for normal textures and polygon counts, but trying to make a gigantic Xenoblade-like world just demands too much, the 3DS to me has weaker polys and textures than the Wii, but excels at everything else.

Unless G rank armor/weapons are once again overpowered. :/
Based on what I saw on YT, this is probably the case. Guy wasn't playing particularly great against G rank monsters but was staggering them fairly frequently with solo times around 10 minutes.

Played some Tri last night to celebrate the announcement.

Why do people drop traps and constantly ask "cap? cap? cap?" when the monster is nowhere close to fucking limping yet? I can't take it!
Trap spamming is annoying when that's the majority of their contribution to the hunt. Especially if all they do is lay a trap, sit behind it, and ping instead of engaging a monster. That person probably saw the monster get exhausted and thought drooling/stumbling was a sign for capture.

It is supposed to be a straight up-port of 3G, not Tri.

Q. Can I import my Tri save to this game?

For all I know nothing has been said officially regarding this issue, for that matter afaik no one on this board has been able to answer the question whether it will be possible to export any data saves from Wii to Wii U at all.

I already know the answers, I'm just compiling the answers cause people keep asking :)

He was referring to those who won't get a Wii U for it.

Actually until we know the details the lovely customizable 2nd screen on the 3DS could be an argument .

Sven talked about there not being much of a hope for save transfers from Tri to MH3U. With how much was changed with regards to, well, everything in the latter, I can't imagine they could find a way to make it worthwhile.

That 2nd screen looks like it's on the Wii U Gamepad.

And I'm pretty sure he mentioned 3DS in his post, not the Wii U.
