Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate announced for Wii U/3DS, coming to West, no 3DS online

How MH save transfers will work:

Series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto explained to IGN today that you’ll have to download a small, separate app for 3DS in order to make the transfer. You’ll just have to launch the app and press a button – it all happens wirelessly, you don’t need an Internet connection, and it doesn’t take long. “You can think of it as just one save data that both systems are sharing,” he said.

Has this news made anyone else want to or actually play Monster Hunter Tri again? Looking at my save and progress I realize I spent a LOT of time doing nothing. :(

Haven't lances been nerfed in the titles after Tri?
bowgunning is where it's at if you want to avoid LS spamming randoms and upswinging GS/SwAxe users lol

As a LS spamming noob I can confirm this. I do try my best to avoid other players though, but sometimes it can't be helped.

Please help me with my bad english
I'm okay with this.jpg

That being said, unless Nintendo and Capcpom work out some sort of cross buy like system, I'll only get one copy so it's not like it matters.
The crossbuy initiative is a desperation move.

Lance was nerfed in Portable 3rd and 3G so it wouldn't make sense to use it in Tri.

I don't use just one weapon type but I do use Lance a lot.
They weren't nerfed that badly - instead of getting a high damage combo string and the ultimate defense through counter canceling you now need to choose one or the other.

In a way, yes, that's true but in another way, it just makes sense if you're going to push save syncing as a major feature. Honestly, there just aren't that many people who'll buy the same game twice just for that convenience.

Of course, when I say "cross buy like system" I don't mean bundle the 3DS version in free with every Wii U version, I just mean that there should be some sort bundle edition, like both versions for 70USD.

I agree with you.
I'm wondering if buying two copies or not, but honestly I think that would be a little bit weird for me to do that.
With a bundle that allows me to purchase both version at a lower price point I'd have no doubt. I mean: think at it as some sort of Limited edition we usually buy..

Mind expanding on that? I main lances on Tri, and I kinda forcefully ignored all info about P3rd and 3G so I don't know much about weapon changes between the versions.

In Tri, your BnB lance combo was stab, stab, stab. After any of those stabs you could choose to link it into a dodge, or counter cancel into another stab combo. Most people chose to counter cancel because it was a lot faster than the dodge, plus in the event the Jho decided it wanted to eat you, you could just convert it into a full counter.

In P3rd and later they changed it so you could only link into counter cancel after the first two stabs. So now you need to decide if you want greater DPS with the triple stab at the risk of getting bodied by a monster attack.

Lances are still good, just not the hyper-efficient DPS machines they once were. Plus having to choose adds a new layer of risk/reward tension which IMO is what makes MH so fun.

I still use Lance mainly, it'd just make me worse at the game if I went back to an older move set. Plus I'd end up missing counter canceling a lot.

Switch Axe for life.

May not be the best weapon, but it has a lot of variety and versatility, so I like it a lot.

It's definitely up there in DPS. I don't like it personally but it's a monster if you can wail on something like Jhen.

Ok, thanks, that's not such a huge adjustment to make on my end then. It sure saves me the first few attempts where I'll get smacked in the face and wonder what's happening lol

I think I'll go for lances(again) and gunlances this round as my mains, although I end up using almost every weapon in the end. I have no idea how gunlance works so it will be kind of an adventure.

I think the bigger adjustment is that there are more monster attacks that are unsafe to mindlessly counter because they are followed up in quick succession by another attack.

Not that I'm implying that Tri in any way conditioned me to mindlessly counter everything when using a lance.

Nowadays I still feel most at home with my lance. It's so light and intuitive, the exact opposite of heavy. If only more people gave it a chance I could have 4 people poking an Alatreon to death :(

Seems like a lot has changed tbh, can't believe it was 6 years ago, but online lances were pretty much the only weapon used.

I miss that fatalis lance :(

There's always a random who will use a broad sweep LS attack to ruin 3 lancer's fun :p

Timed perfectly so you would get hit with a fireball while you get up.

:p

Oh yes. >:D

I'm psyched about the 'old' weapons. Don't have 3rd and don't have a Japanese 3DS, finally I can play with some Gunlance :D

I just realized how terrifying Deviljho popping out of the ground is. That means there are Deviljho tunnels and if you were to dig into the ground you might find a Deviljho underneath.

I miss Fatalis period. :(

Haven't fought Gran Miraou or whatever it's called but it looks a little like it.

MH3 Ultimate weapon selection, for those wondering http://mh3g-weapons.jimdo.com/

I'm just browsing for MH3U stuff - this monster size comparison is cool http://images.wikia.com/monsterhunter/images/c/cd/MH3G_Size_Chart.jpg

hm strange. is it just me or does it seem that the Jhen Cannon (Bowgun) isnt in MH Tri ultimate?

Also, can anyone tell me what monster this is from?

I thought it would be from the Barrioth but I checked the MH wiki and it's not.

Is anyone still playing Tri? I'd be down for killing some monsters with GAF people.

Just broke HR51 a couple of days ago and finished all the 6* quests. Need to get some gold crown monsters to finish off my awards list and then I think I'm done with the game. Seems small coming off Freedom.

I still play Tri and will be on tomorrow if I don't have any errands to do.

Most of those monsters don't actually look that big when seen in-game. I mean, their big, but the only ones featured in MH Tri that are intimidating due to their size would be Jhen Mohran, Ceadeus, Deviljho and Alatreon.

I put so many hours into Tri, sooooo many....I think I've mined we'll over a hundred hours just in the off chance there was an LS ancient shard....hopes and dreams dashed to bite sized peco bits. :( altogether I've logged over 600 hours and I'm HR 140.
