Let's talk about "creepshots"

That gym one is odd, surely someone would have noticed, especially her, since he'd literally have to be standing there behind her and carefully aiming the shot to get it that clear. At least the other ones are somewhat blurred and from a distance, but that one is REALLY close.
I would guess that some of these were shots taken by friends/family and repurposed when found to have creep-potential.

The first time I ever really touched a butt was the day after 9/11. I had a Persian girlfriend. (We were 13 so that meant we talked on the phone lots) anyway on 9/11 her mom wouldn't let her go out after school because she was afraid someone would like do a hate crime all up on her. So I talked to her on the phone wile I had people over to watch CNN (via MTV of coruse) the. The next day I walked her home and her two girlfriends were walking like two paces behind us and they said "grab her butt!" I got a palm full of that booty. A palm full. She was flexing. Nothing but booty.

I think that girl is like a diplomat or someone with a blackberry now.

We actually still are pretty good friends. Just retread that post and felt like a monster.

It's disgusting tbh, especially because there's no real need. Just stare if you must, why the photography? The word creepy cannot be overstated enough.

I may be a part of the problem because, despite not taking or viewing creepshots I don't necessarily "get" some of these posts. Most of my feeling stems from the fact that unless we're talking about underhanded pantie shots, the photos are simply capturing how people choose to present themselves in public. If we can laugh at "candid photos of people at wal-mart" why is "candid photos of hot girls" somehow more sordid and tisk tisk worthy?

As to why the photography - really? You don't think any guy jerks off to that hot girl they saw earlier in the day? The hot girl in the yoga pants that they describe to their friends with such clarity? With the evolution of high resolution cameras in phones, it just makes it easier for the guy to capture what used to be a fleeting memory.

Again - I agree that it's creepy, but I guess I just lump it with all of the other creepy things many guys just generally do. It hardly seems revelatory or like a hot-button issue to me.

I'm a dude and I would be pissed if someone put pictures of me on the internet while I'm just minding my business and working out.

It doesn't get any better when it's a bunch of creeps talking about said pictures. What gets uploaded on the internet, stays on the internet.

You seem awfully invested in this, and you've posted a large number of these pictures that were taken without the women's consent.

Is there something you want to tell us, Sentry?
Due to the popularity of that news story they're all easily findable on imgur. ;p Imgur has even crashed a few times today, might be unrelated but that's a first for me.

In all seriousness, it's really, really just creepy to me. Can you imagine a dude walking behind you taking shots of your ass? Here's one of the 'top creepshots of all time;

opcfl.jpg

Titled 'in line at the bakery'. She's not on a fucking beach or wearing tights while working out, she's just in line at a bakery! I don't know, it's just surprising that this is completely allowed, I guess. fucking weird.

How else are you supposed to get a sense of how violating they are. :lol

I'm all for Reddit not censoring things, I'm just saying some of those things are creepy.
I wouldn't mind them shutting the whole thing down. This isn't a bait thing where reddit can find out people posting pics of minors. Most of these guys do it just to post them on reddit and gain attention/notoriety. A title of one thread was something like 'the best boob shot in my collection yet!'. They do this as a hobby and post it, it's not just a bunch of random guys who one-off post. It's a community. So if you shut it down, i'm not sure if most of them would even continue doing it at all. In that respect, it's sort of encouraged and bred. I saw one thread titled something like 'my first creepshot!'. They want to get famous in their community off of this shit.

See my point above, it's encouraged internally I think. Do a massive amount of dudes really jack off to this when there's porn? I kind of doubt it. Like I said above, it seems to be a sort of sport.

All I see are soulless asses. What next creepsketches? Where is the x-ray tech, where is the imagination? Reminds me of that sci-fi story where voyuers pay to see internal organs of dancers.

I'm not sure what to make of these posts.

Then let me spell it out for you.

In my experience, women tend to be OK with getting attention for their looks if the man giving the attention is someone they could find attractive.

If on the other hand, the man is unattractive to them they find the attention uncomfortable and inappropriate - also known as "creepy".

And to make clear, I don't think snapping pictures counts as 'attention'. I am sure getting your picture taking without consent would be undesired by most no matter who snaps them.

The community aspect fuels it somewhat, but yes, I do think a fair amount of dudes would use it as sexual stimulation. Again - you can't compare this with porn. The popularity of creepshots stem from the fact that these girls don't know they're being captured. They're real women - not paid actors - being presented. The authenticity it presents is what is sexually appealing for some people.

Again, do you think guys never jack off to the hot girl they saw earlier in the day despite her being fully clothed and not behaving in any sexual way? The thrill stems from the palpability of the subject as a real person. Just my $0.02.

Then isn't it kind of silly to bring all that other stuff up in a thread about taking such pictures?
I am not talking about you. The world does not revolve around you.

And get off your high horse. You have no reservations talking about men yourself. You are not some victim here on GAF.

If we as a society put a ban on creepshots can we also put a ban on "herp look at the fat person at the store" pictures too? That shit is humiliating and I have no idea why anyone thinks that's okay.

You shouldn't be taking pictures of anyone without their consent. Yes, public place and all that jazz but in most cases it's exploitative, creepy, and just plain wrong.

Do you really fucking think that when some guy is being a creep the first thing in a woman's mind is "well he's attractive?" The last time I ran into such behavior I was scared to fucking death. Stop with this "attractive guys can be creeps" bullshit. It's fucking insulting to anyone who's been stalked or generally scared shitless and it gets paraded around GAF like some sacred truth. It's bullshit through and through.

I hope some hot chicks has taken photos of me on the beach and sometimes looks at them to get going.
That depends entirely on whether or not you're covered in soap.
i would link the pic, but that would probably be some sort of inception

He stockpiled the real pic avatars =p.
It always seems to find a way to come back and bite me in the ass. :lol

Oh and their rules are the best;

All posts must be Original Content (OC) and of the creeper variety.
NO UPSKIRT SHOTS Head over to /r/upskirt if you want to post those.

At first I thought 'oh, how decent of them that they at least frown upon upskirt shots'. Then I read the rest. Isn't that completely illegal? [edit] Nevermind, they mean posed, 'voyeur' upskirts are illegal.

Public humiliation has been part of almost every culture in the world at some point. Humans in society seem to eventually resort to it at some point. It shouldn't surprise you that the internet and anonymity brought it back out.

Isn't it the same in reverse? I like attractive women to look at me, but I've had unattractive women stare at me and I always find it uncomfortable. It's probably worse for women because there's the threat of sexual assault, etc.

You are one poster among thousands here. You are not the source of wisdom on the relation between men and women that you clearly think you are - in every single thread on the subject.

Seriously ... it's creepy ok, to think a guy felt to need to take this photo. But come on now now. You can't criminalize everything, as creepy as the intention (or the destination) is.

And as they said, the whiteknighting is a bit suspicious here :p

good credit (by proxy)
ITT people rationalize other dudes taking unauthorized pics of women (many of them undoubtedly minors) for random perverts on the internet to jack off to.

Interesting this topic popped up, because I'm pretty sure I was being photographed on the MAX line the other day. I didn't really think much of it at first, but after I realized that the guy was not really reading his book, but looking at his phone that was right against his book and moving his phone and adjusting every time I happened to look right at it was... really fucking obvious. It was really unnerving. I shoulda txt'd my friend to come get me at the station, but I was so flustered I didn't even think about it. It was fairly obvious because after he would move his phone, he would look at it, do the "zoom in/out" finger motions and like, smile... to himself.

FUCKING. CREEPY.

For the record, I was not wearing anything provocative at all.

Edit: I think I should add that when it was happening, I didn't really understand what was going on. When I explained it to my friend I was on my way to visit, he explained creepshots to me and said I shoulda let him know so he coulda picked me up at the stop. D'oh.

I'm not sure if you noticed, but you're the one who was making assumptions about the preconceptions of all women. I would say an actual woman might be slightly more acquainted with the matter than you.

Guys, guys, stop fighting, just smoke a bowl and chill and mutually agree that regardless of your gender politics, these photo guys are creeps for doing this and should probably stop. That's a good thing to agree on, yes?

I just also want to say in my opinion you should be able to take as many pictures of anyone or anything anytime. I think almost everyone here would be opposed to the idea of an adult taking pictures of children for adverse reasons. Nevertheless the freedom is paramount to the possible implication.

Well, it's awful and hopefully with attention on creepshots right now someone will add that all images taken in an exploitative nature should be seriously frowned upon within online communities and possibly even legally restricted. Sites like peopleofwalmart shouldn't exist because they are gross.

You guys remember that runner or hurdler who had did a warm-up dance? I can't recall her name but I do remember how quick people were to find other media of her and make ass gifs and sexualize her non-sexual gestures. It's so sick it makes my skin crawl and we need to move past it.

Nah I'm just playing the victim while he pretends that creepy shit done by handsome fellows is acceptable.

I had no idea creepshots were a real thing until a week ago when I was linked to this Guardian article which tries to link it to paparazzi culture and the overall larger scene of revenge porn.
The answer involves a familiar combination of desire and humiliation. There is an interest in seeing not just any breasts, but all breasts, a sense that female bodies are public property, fair game – to be claimed, admired and mocked.
[...]
A girl in her second year at secondary school whom the researchers spoke to reported that the demand "Can I have a picture of your tits?" occurred daily. If boys managed to get these photos, they immediately became a form of currency for them, and potential humiliation for the girls. Male interviewees spoke about posting these pictures to "exposure sites" on Facebook, profiles set up especially for this purpose.
Linking it to paparazzi culture seems like a chicken-or-egg question to me, but overall all these things are quite disgusting - they probably shouldn't be illegal, but we should speak up against it whenever we see it.

I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that many of these creepshooters (as Internet-savvy users) are against having their Internet activity tracked by governments (or Google) but have no problems infringing on other's desire for privacy.

Well, I agree with you on the moral part that it is kinda mean and violating, but there's nothing legally wrong with being photographed or taped in a public environment. That's just the way it is, if you go in public, you can be recorded. At least it is here in the US, not sure about Europe.

Note that being under age of consent can change things, though.

Oh, as for the runner, yeah, maybe, but to be honest she seemed to be really happy and was mugging for the camera and her career likely got a bit of a boost from the publicity, so that probably had a positive outcome in the end.

Doesn't matter if it's revealing, someone standing right next to you is secretly taking pics of you with sexual intent. It's not like they're saying 'oh look she has the new iPhone before anyone else!'..

Would you be cool with someone doing that to your gf, sister, etc? It's violating whether or not your fully clothed tbh, the proximity and being unaware of it all make are what seal it.

Hmm, interesting points but I doubt there's a silver bullet to explain away any type of fetish. Which is exactly what this is.

well from my experience with hot ladies, they dont like to get photographed by a stranger no matter what he looks like Dennis.

It´s creepy and if the guy is hot or not, it is still creepy as fuck.

I was out walking with my girlfriend and some random dude decided to photograph her ass.... I was right there man, and I saw it and told him to delete it or I would kill him.

He decided to delete it and that was that.
My girlfriend was freaked out by the dude.

and I was shocked that someone would do that when their boyfriend was right there seeing the entire thing, some people are just fucking crazy.

women these days have so much pressure on them and they are scared by just walking home at night, they dont need shit like this as well.

It would bother me, but I think laws should be determined based off how much they're necessary to protect the well-being of a society and not just based off "this makes me feel weird." There's a fine line between creepshots and candid photography. Do we ban all photography of people that haven't given prior consent? Do we ban photography of all sexy people? Of all people that are taken with something smaller than a dSLR?

Creepshots are creepy. Yes, I agree. But I think there needs to be a better argument than "It's creepy!" if we're going to talk about disallowing certain types of of public photography.

*Not even sure if you're talking about banning it, but your wording makes it seem like that that's sort of what you're hinting at.

**It's odd that there are routinely threads that pop up on GAF that feature creepshots (be it of celebs or whatnot) that are greeted with comments about just about everything but whether or not the photo should have been taken. It just furthers the point that, with a lot of people, it seems to only be an issue if it becomes about them or a loved one. Person A checks out women all the time, but gets pissed off the moment a guy starts eye-ing their girl - that sorta thing.

You do realize that threatening to kill someone is far more fucked up than taking a photo right?
