RESIDENT EVIL 6 |OT| No Trope Left

In the end, I agree: Chris has the best, most consistent campaign. His end sequence is the best part of the whole game. His campaign also has the least amount of QTE's, so that's a big plus too.

Leon's is distant second, due to a TERRIBLE ending chapter and a few drawn out sequences riddled with QTE's.

Jake's... man, I wanted to love it. I was riding high on his campaign yesterday when I was only in Chapter 2. It had all the makings of being the best, but it falls so flat. Tons of horrid vehicle sequences, QTE's for literally everything, unsatisfying last boss, and absolutely no point to his scenario whatsoever. Still, he is a great character, and his dynamic with Sherry made it worth playing. I hope they both return.

I wonder if Capcom will listen to all the criticism and bring RE back to its roots. Or are the sales all they care about?

I was replaying the PS3 demo and I think it looks really good. I'm trying to figure out if it looks better than the 360 demo, since some reviews are saying the 360 version has more technical issues than the PS3 version.

I don't think it's an either-or scenario; they care about both obviously. I think RE7 will be either a reboot or significantly restructured after the disastrous reviews RE6 is getting.

Even with all the bad reviews this isn't a 1000th of the negativity that DmC has recieved and they are already hinting at sequels to the piece of garbage.

Oh, gotta love my fucking Blockbuster. (Yes, they sell games here and they're still alive).
They will not host a RE6 night event but they had one for World of Warcraft's last expansion.

People in their FB were "eh, okay". Attendance wasn't so spectacular.

But RE6? I FUCKING WANT IT ALREADY, MAKE A MIDNIGHT SALE, WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU kind of comments.
Meanwhile at BB: No lol, we're closing at 10PM.

Also, stacks of the RE6 copies for rental in front of everyone, but not available until tomorrow.

Cockteasers.

As long as they don't bring back ink ribbons or tank controls I don't mind them going back to their roots. Those are the main reasons I could never enjoy pre-RE4 REs.

I enjoy the usage of the entire 10 point scale. If a game is shit, give shit score.

Although personally, I can't wait for the day we can stop trying to rank entertainment with numbers and shit and lets the words do the reviewing. How many people today actually read the reviews instead of talking about the numbers attached at the bottom?

Classic Game Room

I NEVER really look at the numbers to justify a purchase. I read/watch for keywords and gameplay elements. comments about the animation, the atmosphere, etc.

CGR always has GREAT reviews. He/they never say "Crap game; DO NOT GET" or "Buy NOW" seriously, they just tell you about the game, what they liked and disliked, and what the game's fun parts are.

Example Dragon's Dogma Review

I can't wait to play this game. AMAZON SEND!!!!!!

So how's Mercenaries.

Fun. They made some interesting tweaks, and the new shooting/melee mechanics make it feel much more frenetic. However, their decision to strip out levels as preorder bonuses and DLC hurts my overall impression of it.

Also, I hate to say it, but Mercs 3D was... better. At least, there was much more to do, and the achievements/skill-leveling system was wayyyyyyy better.

Or they can just build on this game and fix all the issues for RE7. There's a great game hidden underneath all the jankyness.

I don't get it when people try and say that a given review score is invalid. Like, what? Who the fuck are you to say that?

Listen, if you think RE6 is awesome because it has "Resident Evil" in the title alone, then that's great for you. Nobody can change your mind! Don't even look at review scores. You've already decided that RE6 is For You, so just be content with that! Don't try and justify your blind fandom on the Internet. You're going to spend sixty bucks on this game and you're going to enjoy it, therefore getting your money's worth.

But, like, don't think too hard about why you have blind fandom for a franchise. If you do, you might realize that maybe it really is entirely driven by dumb nostalgia, and you're letting the people who make these games make things that, when you step back and actually look at them, aren't really that good at all.

People actually played DMC and thought it handled great, this on the other hand...

...went both ways and had people changing their minds?

I'm going to have a good laugh at everyones impressions after "playing" the prologue.

The prologue is a tutorial and is not an accurate indication of the gameplay following it. It's very different even
from the actual part of the game the prelude is meant to be from.

Some people played it and thought it was good.

There will be likely just as many serious RE fans who like this as will like what they are doing DmC.

Lets not act like the praise for DmC has been even close to what has been given as far as hate/critcism goes and yet we get hints of Sequels.

Who is this aimed at? Everyone in the OT seems to have valid reasons for liking or disliking the game that doesn't consist of them being raging RE fans. It seems like you are trying to egg people on here.

It's not about "going back to its roots," it's about making a great game. You think if RE6 was a legitimately great action-shooter, it would get middling scores because it's not survival horror? No way. The problem here is that Capcom embraced the "jack of all trades" philosophy attempting to cater to RE fans, Call of Duty fans, and Uncharted fans with a 30 hour blockbuster, but aren't good enough to pull it off.

"You once again stepped into the world of survival horror. Good luck."

Playing some RE2 before heading out to the midnight launch.

A REmake of this would be godly.

I know its still the night before release, but I've been waiting for someone to join my Chris chapter 2 game for almost an hour...

any GAF wanna play as chris starting on chapter 2? I'd join others games but you dont get trophies for completing a chapter if they have already started.

I just looked a couple pages ago and saw people say that certain review scores were too low, and that's just the silliest thing ever and comes across as Purchase Justification.

People complain about RE6 and want the same people to remake one of the greatest games ever? God damn. Theoretically, a remake of RE2 it would be great. But in reality, it would never work.

Ugh, I don't get why they don't just remake Mercs 3D to consoles with more content rather than trying to come up with a completely new Mercenaries everytime. Stick with what works Capcom. :(

How many maps are there on disc?

A whopping three. The rest you need DLC/preorder/possibly RE.net.

Speaking of that, the website is still down. I assume it'll go up at midnight?

Man, I have a strong feeling that people hating on this game intensely aren't really giving it a fair shake, but what do I know. All I know is that Brad from Giantbomb on their I Love Mondays bit mentioned that he was 20 hours in before learning how to roll. He might be completely right and RE6 is garbage, but I'm going to have a lot of trouble taking him seriously in the future.

So is this game a giant pile like the internet is desperately making it out to be? Getting serious buyers remorse right now with my Amazon preorder. Someone please tell me this game is badass ;(

We all have our opinions on the game and we're allowed to disagree with any score we choose to. I know I'm definitely not saying the scores or opinions are invalid, I just don't agree with them. You have a problem with that?

EDIT: This review shit should be in the review thread anyways, not here.

I went through a similar situation recently, but stayed true and i'm glad i did. This is from someone who's only spent 3 hours with the game though. But I've had a blast so far. I think similar to my experience with Vanquish, it took some time for the mechanics to click with me and for me to feel comfortable with the game. With Resident Evil 6 i got most of that out of the way in advance though, with demo.

Apart from camera and QTE complaints, i'm off to a good start with the game. I obviously have a limited perspective, but thought i'd just throw my two cent in.

LMAO Jake's final boss.
Melee fight with Ustanak
. I really enjoyed that whole campaign. His vehicle sections were not nearly as bad as Chris' and there's some nice chemistry between Jake and Sherry throughout.

Took 22 hours to complete the 3 main campaigns. I think they were all of roughly equal quality. It's hard to pick a favourite or least favourite. It's an overall 8 from me.

watch a serious mercenaries player.
You'll change your tune.

So um, I thought that tutorial/intro/QTE That you jump into at the beginning was cool. How terrible am I? Obviously it's not the style of gameplay I would want to see a lot of out there, but here and there I actually find I enjoy stuff like that.

Haven't played the game proper, yet, I'm waiting for my co-op partner.

So for you guys who have played it already, which campaign do you suggest we start first, second and third?

It doesn't really matter. There's a list out there that tries to piece them chronologically, but playing them as they are already laid out for you works well enough.

How would people rank them? Kind of want to get the worst one out of the way first and save the best for last. >_> I'm hearing a lot of surprisingly positive impressions of Chris's campaign.

This is kinda shocking to me. Granted I want to love it because Chris is my fav, but given the Demo impreessions I'm honestly kinda shocked anyone is saying Chris's is the best.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
Got the game. My preorder came with a shirt and a poster, with no extra cost!

I really liked Leon's.

Chris' was shit until the end of chapter 2 then it got awesome.

Haven't played Jake yet.

I have actually heard alot saying it.
surprised me aswell, glad though because Chris is my favorite character.

20 minutes till I head to Gamestop, excite!

Papercuts

fired zero bullets in the orphanage.
When a PC version comes out(if?), someone needs to just replace Chris with Leon for his chapter 3-5 so the best character gets the best chapters. REAL TALK.
