(last-gasp) Wii Ambassador thread

So, from what I'm told, NCL is ending their Wii Ambassador program on November 30, and I'd be very surprised if the PAL Ambassador program doesn't end at the same time, too, so I figured I'd make this thread for all the people like me who want to try and hit the Ambassador connection cap before the shut-off date, and to let people know about the scheme generally.

I'll chuck up a proper FAQ soon, but here's the tl;dr: if you have a PAL/JP Wii you can claim free Wii points by helping other people connect their consoles to the internet for the first time, and if you manage to help lots of people you get a bunch of free VC games, too. The people whose consoles you connect get free points as well, so it's win/win.

Is there anyone out there with an Aussie Wii console that's never gone online before that would be willing to help me out?

It's both. Every time you help a console connect to the internet you both get 500 Points, and then there are reward tiers for helping certain amounts of people--if you help 10 people you get all the first-party NES games for free, and if you help 20 people you get all NES/SNES/N64 games for free.

That's why I made this thread--I thought it'd make hitting 20 connections easier for everyone.
 
Considering how many Wii's are used for Netflix it's probably harder to find one that has never been connected to the internet then you think.

I became platinum ambassador last week! Is there any official braggin' thread? This is just too awesome - I could spend the future just playing the past.

I'm at 9 registrations right now... really doubtful that I'll make platinum by the cut-off date.

I guess I'm hoping that people have friends/family who bought a Wii a million years ago to play Wii Sports or whatever that they can drag out to help people hit their ambassador targets.

Thing is I knew about this program but I never met a single sole who owned a non connected Wii. Then again I never met many with a Wii.

Ah, okay. Would you be willing to help me out? It'll net you 500 Points--enough for a NES/C64/Master System game--and I'll even use the points they give me to gift you another one.

EDIT: this goes for anyone with a PAL Wii that's never connected to the internet, by the way.
 
So what checks are in place to prevent someone buying a spare Wii and connecting it and then reformatting it 20 times?
 
How does the process work exactly? What if one formats the Wii, will it count as a new system then?

The connection data is stored server-side, so you'll get a message telling you the window for registration has expired, even if the console has since been formatted.

Consoles that are eligible for registration have to fit these criteria:

-The console must have never connected to the internet, or connected to the internet for the first time within 30 days of registration

-The console must be set to the same country as the one you're linking it to (you can set the country manually in the system settings, all the PAL countries are in there)

-The console must have the latest version of the Shop Channel--you can update the Shop Channel independently of the rest of the firmware if you want to preserve your soft-mods/homebrew


The actual process for registering as ambassadors is pretty simple: you exchange Wii System Codes in each other's address book, then you go into the Shop Channel, pick either "Ambassador" or "Person Who Was Helped" depending on the console, select the appropriate friend from the list and do a quick three-question survey. Once both consoles have gone through the process it'll gift you 500 Points each.

Though I doubt I'd be able to find even 5 people that never connected the Wii to the internet.
 
I'm not too upset about this not making it over to America because I'm positive I'd never be able to reach even 10 people who haven't connected to the internet, unless I went door-to-door helping people connect to the internet :p

Really awesome for anyone who is able to get 20 people though. I envy them so much. :(
 
You don't even need to hit 10/20 registrations for it to be worthwhile, because every registration gives both consoles 500 Points, so you're getting something every time. It really is uncharacteristically generous.
 
How have I not heard of this before now? If any PAL gamers haven't connected their Wii to the Internet yet (particularly folks from Ireland, as you won't even have to change their country settings), let me know.
 
Wait, so in essence if you helped people connect their Wii's you got like a 4th of the virtual console library for free?
