Yeah, that's true. I don't remember the sports games' figures as well but EA is probably really happy with this month.

I thought the GBA was killed really quickly. Was the GBA still getting major releases 18 months after the DS was out?

FF VI Advance didn't hit until February 2007. The DS was out in November 2004.

Crazy, Vita must be at like 2 units sold

Like I always say, though, gaming-dedicated handheld hardware is going to go the way of the dinosaur in one or two generations. Just too much portable competition with stuff people prefer that has way more functionality than just gaming. Nintendo or Sony must salvage it by making the legendary console-handheld hybrid platform.

I also added minimums for the 3DS and NDS to the OP as those were the only platforms we got official numbers for last month, but I'm sure you can speculate what other minimums must be.

So, going off what looked like the best estimates from last month, and the Gamespot quote in the OP, and what we have so far
XBox 360: 270K
PS3: > 176-193K
Wii: > 88-105K
3DS: > 221K
DS: >150K
PSV: > 47K

And, possibly
PSP: < 11K

Nintendo should just kill 3ds
Nobody likes 3d anymore and just wanna buy regular ds

:lol

3DS isn't a 3-D DS. One of the main functions of the 3DS was to combat the rampant piracy seen on the DS, and as far as that goes, it seems to be doing a great job, so far. 3-D was not the main purpose for a new system.

One and a half years since release and this is still being explained to people.

at last, for christ's sake
Kill your DS line already Nintendo wtf.

what if the money they're making ends up as being more than what they're losing with the 3DS? From that perspective, keeping the DS alive sounds reasonable enough. I mean, killing the DS for good doesn't automatically mean everyone would flock to the 3DS

on sales: good for NSMB2, best selling single format game. But the killer apps are getting scarce, Pokemon 3DS needs to be at least shown in some form next year

I'd be very surprised if it wasn't released in Japan by this time next year, and I wouldn't be shocked if it were out in America.

Were we to humor hypothetical numbers, we would get the following year over years:

Xbox 360: (-38.4%)
PS3: (-52.3% to -47.7%)
Wii: (-63.3% to -56.3%)
3DS: (-15.0%)
DS: (+3.45%)

Black 2/White 2 was this year. Not sure of the historical period between mainlines, but I'd imagine that 2014 would seem more likely in that case. *shrugs*

Because your "more popular" is a relative statement.

Soul Calibur 5 still performed poorly all things considered and likely isn't going to make Namco Bandai a 100th of the revenue that TTT2 will in the end.

SC5's sales in the west even at it's best (meaning if it performed like 2/4) still would be hard pressed to tackle Tekken's overall numbers.

There is literally zero reason to pull funding from Harada and his team when they continue to drive people to the Arcade as well as they currently do.
It still seems like it did better in America than TTT2 so far. Keep in mind that this is a NPD thread, not an arcade thread or Media Create thread. It'd be fine if just a little more were spared to build up a strong base for the Souls series in a place that clearly has an audience for it. It's not like America has a humongous arcade scene for Tekken to take advantage of.

It's very unlikely that Pokémon Gen six is out in the US before spring 2014 though they did have an incredibly fast turn around on B2/W2 compared to historical norms. It could possibly be a September in Japan/December in America game...but I doubt it!

You're "clearly has an audience" is debatable at best.

SC5>TTT2 isn't saying much givne how well SC5 did. As it stands NB clearly feels that putting more marketing dollars into the title simply isn't going to return the investment and given how hard they pushed it to the FGC, and had people bring it out and talk about it at Tourny's I find it hard to find fault in their belief.

Just because one Bomba does better then another doesn't mean the better of the two would have done better with more dollars thrown at it.

SC6, get more Star Wars character and Link back and then maybe they might have need to throw marketing money at it. Drop several beloved characters, release it in a filled niche and on ageing Consoles and have know extra star power? SC5 was going to take it on the chin regardless of how much NB marketed it or gave them money for new modes/online.

Even the high end PS3 number means the 360 outsold it this month moreso than any other month this year (bar January by a pinch) I guess the $99 360 deal is working?

Well, if we assume speculation is correct, the 3DS is actually going down year over year, at which point they have some great incentive to speed up localization.

I don't think FFVI GBA is the equivalent of releasing Pokemon B/W-2 on the DS.

It's a game published by Nintendo 26 months after they replaced the previous system. Their last super major title was indeed Pokémon Emerald in 2005. 2005 saw tons and tons of third party support and it was still going strong throughout 2006.

Oh I already have both of those. Haven't got to try XCOM yet though, Dishonored is the shiz.

From everything people say about XCOM, it is like a dream come true. I can't wait to start that

I fear for its NPD, strategy games like this don't do well anymore though :(

XCOM is going to be a very solid business for Take 2. The brand is well known and Firaxis games have always a very long tail on PC. So it'll probably sell some numbers on consoles this year and will continue to sell for many years on PC.

Gen VI would be a year earlier than Gen V was, but they've been fairly obviously rushing through the normal generation cycle; the Mythical Pokemon reveals and distributions have been tossed off carelessly, and the anime reaches the league in November.

I certainly have very little doubt that Japan, at least, will have the titles next year. Usually NA wouldn't, but I could imagine the localisations being sped up to have them out for the holidays, much like with Black and White 2.

Sitting on Animal Crossing is plain stupidity and helps no one whatsoever.
Likewise smaller titles could at least add a bit of variety to the system.

I expected PS3 to go up. Don't systems usually get a nice bump when a new version of the hardware comes out?

A console revision that doesn't make any experience changing changes but makes you pay more for it than the system you usually use?
Its not too surprising, where would the bump come from? Plus I doubt SCEA have even really bothered to market the thing.

They aren't sitting on it, AC is definitely Nintendo's most complicated to localize games and one of the hardest games to localize in general.

PS4 is certainly not releasing in 2013, and the next Xbox has the possiblity of being pushed to 2014 also.

Patcher thinks PS 4 is coming 2013. :D

"A new console cycle is likely to reverse the negative sales trends of the last several years, with next-generation consoles expected from each of the three manufacturers over the next 18 months. Nintendo will launch the Wii U on November 18, and, while neither Sony nor Microsoft has yet announced new hardware, we expect a PS4 no later than November 2013, and a next Xbox no later than March 2014."

Patcher also hints that Next gen could only be "modest improvement" over the current generation.

Ultimately, Pachter sees the next-gen consoles selling very quickly even if they are only a "modest improvement" over the current generation.

I can't imagine this holiday is going as planned for Nintendo. Animal Crossing seems like an obvious game to have out for xmas and that's not going to happen. Luigi's Mansion is a shocking delay. It doesn't surprise me that software sales on the 3DS have slipped. There's not a great deal out there and people's attention is being drawn elsewhere.

They probably want this winter to be all WiiU

Um...

Not saying that the situation's great, but your stat's referring to the death throes of DS software being added in as well.
