Wouldn't closing down this threads about specific consoles end up causing the creation of new threads for literally everything?

I liked the 3DS thread, I could go and ask about anything specific, or to talk about a game I just played. Not sure in what thread I could do that anymore. :(

we should probably just make a community thread

Probably going to shed a tear over the locking of "What games does this thing have" thread. It was a great resource to get info on up and coming games and releases.

On another note; anyone have a squeak noise coming out of their SD card slot whenever they press the button that is directly on the other side of the console. When I press the main 3DS button, think it's X?, the system sorta gives a little in that area and emmits a squeak.

Isn't it possible to move the thread over there?

Yup, totally normal, there is another area where this happens but can't check right now, don't have my OG with me.

You can still have some more community-esque threads, they just need to be a bit more compartmentalized.

Examples of threads that should be made:
-Vita PSN Store |OT| (This would be focused on the Vita PSN store and the games on it)
-3DS eShop |OT| (This would be focused on the 3DS eShop store and the games on it)
-Vita Hardware/OS Tips And Tricks
-3DS Hardware/OS Tips And Tricks
-Vita Game User Reviews (These have to actually be somewhat lengthy and high quality and not just be a megathread chatroom under the guise of a review thread. If you recommend a game here, you should have at least a few paragraphs about why you like it and think others should buy it. This will be moderated.)

-3DS Online Multiplayer Gaming Community And Friend Code Sharing Thread
-Vita Online Multiplayer Gaming Community And PSN Username Sharing Thread
-If you want to discuss a singleplayer game, make a thread about the singleplayer game or use the OT.

Examples of threads that should not be made:
-Bumping old threads to turn them into the same thread.
-Community version of the same thread.

Okay, this makes sense. I guess we should get started on those 3DS compartmental threads. :p

You can put up shells and then flesh them out. Feel free to make my post the temporary OP if you like.

Would an actual platform games recommendation thread still be permissible?

I know the last one ended up turning a de facto general thread, but that was probably just because the various other hardware/os/eShop threads didn't co-exist.

Yes, if it focuses specifically on game recommendations that have effort put into them.

This way, people can go look at that thread and actually find, lo and behold, lots of well thought out game recommendations.

I suggest the words "user review" instead of recommendations though since people tend to try harder then.

I have to get back to work at this point though, so you'll have to direct other current questions at stump, charlequin, or EatChildren.

Is this really any different to what the closed threads were?

I feel like there's a void to be filled to give general game advice. If a separate thread exists for that, then the hardware threads probably won't cross over into megathread territory.

What's wrong with having a simple OT for a console? I really don't see the problem.

This is a gaming forum, why can't we have our console communities?

Now we have like five OT's for something that should be covered by one.

I guess part of the problem might be that it ends up becoming too vague and insular. If threads exist for more specific topics then it promotes discussion for those topics.

With platform megathreads you just end up with a dumping ground for people to say whatever they want, and it becomes chaotic.

Doesn't Brazil make one every month?

I meant more like game recommendations, but on second thought, I think it would fit better in the thread Zeer0id mentioned.

Vita and Wii U thread were indeed chaotic, but ours (3DS) was very good and handy. :(

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.

This, basically. We felt that the megathreads of specific platforms failed to serve a purpose that other threads didn't cover already, and encouraged users to stick to a singular thread instead creating threads or moving to more suitable, topical threads.

Save for the XL, it's waaaaay better than the OG, totally worth it for so many reasons.

m.neogaf.com works fine on it so that's all that really matters to me lol

It is really terrible otherwise, though. WiiU one will hopefully be a LOT better

God bless gamefaqs for being so wonderfully old school as well, though I am better served by having an iphone or android device nearby.

Quick question here:

I have a regular aqua blue 3DS, and I want to upgrade.
I found a guy in mercadolibre (basically, the mexican ebay)... and he can take my regular 3DS and $1400 pesos (around $110 USD) for a brand new 3DS XL.

Also, he will let me do a system transfer, because we live in the same city.

Would you consider this a good deal?

Thanks for your advice GAF.

At no point should you get a 3DSmall over an XL unless you're a child. XL is by far the best Nintendo handheld hardware ever.

Your best option would be to sell your 3DS on craigslist or mexican ebay
Your second best option is to trade with that gentleman.
Your last best option is to trade it into gamestop.

I don't know the price difference between the OG and the XL there, but here in the U.S. it's just $30, so unless your OG is badly beaten and he gives you a brand new XL for it, I would recommend you to avoid that man.

I have a launch aqua blue 3DS in excellent condition and I've been thinking about upgrading to an XL. How much should I try to sell it for?

If it's in a really excellent condition, maybe $110-120?

That would a be reasonable price since it has the ambassador games, at least for me.

Question, has the screen scratching thing been resolved? It seemed to effect a lot of people at launch but now as far as I can tell if it isn't scratched out of the box (and therefore replaceable) it does not scratch itself when closed in normal use, that right?

Yes, that doesn't happen anymore, unless, of course, you treat it very very poorly.

My thoughts after having this over a month are

a) this is absolutely the version to buy over the original without a doubt

b) the system is heavier than expected, but on par with the DSi XL

If you're gonna play 3DS then this is the way to do it.

QFT. I sold my old 3DS for a Vita back when Vita came out and didnt regret it one bit. I finally got a chance to pick up an XL (blue) and it should be the only system available and the name should be changed to "3DS", not "3DS XL". The old 3DS should be called "3DS mini or 3DS OLD".
