Sorry if old news, but I just heard about this at Rock, Paper, Shotgun and had to spread the word. It looks like they are planning to Kickstart it October 19th.

I am a huge fan of the Quest For Glory series and this news has got my attention. According to RPS it looks like they might have a few games under the Hero U umbrella, but its Hero-U: Rogue Rally that has my attention. It's this quote from the game's official site has me getting some Quest for Glory vibes and has me pretty excited.

The Hero-U combines turn-based, tactical combat and dungeon exploration with rich character interactions, challenging puzzles, and an immersive story. Acclaimed game designers Corey and Lori Cole – creators of the award-winning Quest for Glory series and Castle of Dr. Brain – take you on an epic role-playing journey.

Your life has not been an easy one. Caught red-handed during your thieves’ guild initiation, you have a seemingly-easy choice – Go to reform school or rot away in prison. The teachers and students are intent on making your life a living hell, while trouble lurks in the catacombs below. It’d help if you didn’t need to worry about being killed and passing midterms.

Corey and Lori Cole have assembled a star development team featuring Brawsome, developers of the award winning MacGuffin’s Curse and Jolly Rover. The School for Heroes features:

Tactical combat, where player choices make a real difference
Branching conversations that affect your relationship with other characters
Characters with unique personalities and their own agendas
Challenging puzzles that are an important, organic part of the story
Meaningful choices between exploration, study, and social interaction

Unless something out of left field pops up I am pretty sure I will be backing this when the time comes.

seems strange if not on Wii U they are going to be called for using that as a PR trick

The U in this case is the slang term for a University.

Like the school that Bullwinkle to, Whatsamatta U.

Apparently they've been using Hero-U for quite some time now as sort of a message board RPG, but now they want to make a game out of that.

Skepticism....rising...

One should always have a healthy skepticism. Hell I have some doubts as well. The whole, "Unless something out of left field pops up I am pretty sure I will be backing this when the time comes." line I wrote is just a nice way of me saying unless the game looks like crap.

Despite how excited I am at this possibly of a new Quest For Glory like game the I will need some more info before I back it. Pretty much only Obsidian was able to get me to back them sight unseen. As I have faith in them and pretty much no one else.

I've only backed one game so far - Wasteland 2. As much as I wanted to back Project Eternity, I'm going to wait for the results of Wasteland 2 before I start backing other projects, and will just buy like the common rabble when they come out instead.

I'm excited about Quest for Glory-likes. But how many games have claimed that "choices matter" where they really mean "choose which minor character dies while not affecting the main plot" or "choose between something really good and something really evil"? Yes, I know it's difficult to write a game where the plot can branch in two or more completely different ways, but they could try not to use that jargon.

Wait...

Meaningful choices between exploration, study, and social interaction

This sounds a lot like a Princess Maker game!

You makes a very good point here and I have to agree.

Wait...

I was thinking of Persona 3 and 4 when I read that. Never played a Princess Maker and after some googleing I don't think I ever will. Doesn't look like my cup of tea.

I want this to be good. I have played QfG countless times. Their more recent stuff makes me really wonder what they are going for here though.

They are definitely going for something which from the sound of it seems to be more on the RPG side then the QfGs were.(At least the first 4 as I have never played the 5th) Which is fine by me. I always thought that the QfGs were a little too light in the RPG department.

I believe the based on what little info I got the game will still have some adventure elements like QfG, but so far that might just be an assumption on my part. It is possible I admit that this game might have very little in common with Quest for Glory besides Lori and Corey Cole.

We will just have to wait and see until the kickstarter starts.

I think they'll be okay. With the success of Jane Jensen, Two Guys, Al Lowe, etc., $400k is a reasonable mark. In the mashable article, they talk about $400k being the "bare minimum" but still a well-fleshed, complete game. Hopefully they'll exceed that goal comfortably and be able to add more depth as they discuss.

It makes me giddy with joy that, in a sense, Sierra is back! Not Sierra the company, but many of the people who were a big part of Sierra. At the same time I hope people take a few minutes to read these articles and understand the Coles' new game is not a Quest for Glory sequel. It's a new game that will have elements that made QfG great but also try some new things, too.

Thanks for all the info inm8num2. For some reason Neogaf didn't show me this thread was getting any new posts after I looked last looked or I would of came in sooner.

I am still interested based on the info you posted even if I am a little sad it sounds like they are going for something quite different to Quest for Glory. $400,000 sounds like a doable goal so I have hope this game will be made.

Anyway would probably be best that someone makes a new thread once the kickstarter goes live. I guess I'll do it if no one else volunteers or beats me to it.

Ahh... I'll buy it at a high price!

Edit: Wow, after watching that video I'm doing a 180 here - this looks terrible. The concept art all looks like the QFG games I loved, but the in-game screenshots look nothing like it.

I thought the video was nice. Charming, direct, honest, and clear.

They're not overselling themselves or making lofty claims like many other projects do.

Need Space Quest and Gabriel Knight Kickstarter.
Joke? They've already happened.

Activision won't give up the rights to Space Quest but SpaceVenture is a spiritual successor from the original creators

Jane Jensen is working on a new game as well. Several, even. One of the games will be released later this year but it hasn't been announced. According to Jensen's hints, there's a strong possibility that it will be a sequel to a well-known game.
