I'm not used to getting DLC so soon after release. I could wait several more months and be happy.

I've already stated this else where, but the parity of features from previous games means dick to me if the core game sucks. (Reach). The core gameplay looks awesome to me, and that will carry the game further for me, than any of the cut features ever would have.

Hey and that's your right man. Different strokes for different folks. I personally liked Reach. The only things I didn't like were the AA's and how useless vehicles other then the Banshee became. Course that is a flaw that started with Halo 3 and got worse with Reach. I'm not condemning anyone on either side because neither side is wrong. Some of us will like the changes and don't care about the stuff cut while others won't like the changes and do care about the stuff cut.

It will be interesting to see the state of Harvest's recovery.

If they want to sell me a second map pass next fall, I would be happy to oblige.
This model is great as long as they balance out the BTB initiative they seem to have had.

Sad to see there aren't any explicit remakes, but the descriptions aren't much to go by, so maybe.

Wut, announcing map packs already? I guess it makes sense when you want to be able to sell the season pass that people have some idea of what they're buying, but still. Announcing this much DLC before launch always rubs me the wrong way. At least pretend a good chunk of it isn't already done!

Also, the fact that none of those maps sound particularly Covenant themed, aside from maybe Shatter or Outcast, is kind of disheartening.

Probably a stupid question, but I assume we'll be able to purchase the War games pass at any time? Like when the first Map pack releases?

How so? They very easily could have drawn up ideas for the maps while in development (or after gold) and will work on them now that the game is complete.

That's true I guess.

Please point me to the posts saying the game was going to be bad because of the exclusion of campaign theater. I participated in the discourse. The opinions ranged from "I don't care" to "I'm deeply disappointed". I thought it was an entirely reasonable spectrum of responses. Quote who you are talking about, using that spiffy multi-quote feature if you're going critique opinions. I don't see how coming in and offering broadsides at unnamed posters over the past swath of pages does any good. Talk to people, not some amorphous mass.

You got on Loginius's post, which a a pretty accurate summary of this OT.

I have checked with my sources and can confirm that theater mode does in fact not work with campaign.

Why does 343 continue to make stupid changes that do nothing but shit on Halo fans?

That vibe carried for pages (around page 48 if you have thing for mental anguish). And since Loginius summarized more than just theater, who the hell wants to read quote after quote after quote of that.

Many of the complaints (and no, I'm not going to quote every one for the sake of brevity) are picking at something until it bleeds. Your reply to Loginius was much of the same.

Head count for each Halo launch for maps:

Halo CE: 13
Halo 2: 12
Halo 3: 11
Halo Reach: 8 + 1 Forge Environment
Halo 4: 10 + 3 Forge Environments

I'm cool with them announcing it, if was Reach numbers again I'd have a issue with it.

Just popping in to ask if there is a place where I can get the limited edition of Halo 4. Everywhere seems to be out of stock.

I feel like it'll come down to personal preference, hopefully.

I think preference is certainly part of it. There were some games where I just couldn't do shit with the DMR and I would switch to the BR and just destroy. Maybe it was in my head, maybe it's just what worked for me on that map or gametype. Don't know for sure yet.

Also included in the “Halo 4” War Games Map Pass are two unique in-game helmets (‘Scanner’ and ‘Strider’) that feature new geometry, and an exclusive in-game emblem (‘Falcon’). The “Halo 4” War Games Map Pass is included as part of the Xbox 360 Limited Edition “Halo 4” Console Bundle.

So is this saying we get the two helmets with the LE or has he got that wrong as well?

Cripes. Hard to keep up.

I like the time schedule, assuming quality doesn't suffer.
But the descriptions don't fill me with hope for Covie themed maps, which, if true, is disappointing.

Oh well, as long as they're great maps I'll ultimately be satisfied.

Every now and then you run into people betraying on purpose, sucks they ruin the game.

I think a big portion of these griefers would be eliminated with A) separate lobbies for those with guests and those without B) tighter skill based matchmaking restrictions and C) ranked playlists.

Wal-mart? I've walked in there at midnight for some Halo releases and they never had a supply shortage or long lines either.

They're really only discussing the aesthetics of the map. They could only have concept art for all we know. I'm sure they're not "already done".

And I really hope they break away from the already played out aesthetics we're getting with the launch maps. The Forerunner maps are good, but the human ones all feel so similar. UNSC Lab in gloomy forest, UNSC Lab in snowy mountains, UNSC Lab in grassy highlands. When Adrift has the standout aesthetic amongst your human maps, you know you've got a problem. I'm not saying the environments and skyboxes aren't gorgeous, cause they are. I just want to see more variety in architecture. Think Reflection, Boardwalk, Ghost Town, Turf.

Crimson Map Pack (December release timeframe)
  • Wreckage: Witness the chaos of a clash of civilizations
  • Harvest: venture into the human colony environs of Harvest
  • Shatter: explore a human foray on an alien moon

Majestic Map Pack (February release timeframe)

  • Landfall: emphasis is on infantry battles against a glittering ocean on a distant world
  • Monolith: exposes you to the naked vacuum of space – and the firepower of opposing teams
  • Skyline: distinctly industrial feel provides new challenges in somewhat familiar, but occasionally confined spaces.

Castle Map Pack (April release timeframe)

  • Daybreak: a military facility against the backdrop of an idyllic mountain range
  • Outcast: plunges you into the warrens, canyons and arches of an alien edifice
  • Perdition: takes players into the heart of an urban sprawl, with tactical speed and situational awareness its key features.

I dont expect any "small" maps, those are dead
But a few of these sound like they are more infantry focused (one says it outright)

color me excited

Hopefully Skyline is Turf, it sounds plausible.

and render Space Turf obsolete, no way!
still cant think of a better name

Just noticed that the map packs are named after the Spartan Ops teams "Crimson" and "Majestic". Guess that means the third squad is "Castle".

Are we going to have the junior debate, again? Please no HaloGAF.

Read this:

My name is Lt. Barlow and I'm putting together a special team, and I need me eight soldiers. Eight HaloGAF soldiers. Now, y'all might've heard rumors about the armada happening soon. Well, we'll be leaving a little earlier. We're gonna be dropped into GAF, dressed as civilians. And once we're in enemy territory, as a bushwhackin' guerrilla army, we're gonna be doin' one thing and one thing only... killin' Juniors. Now, I don't know about y'all, but I sure as hell didn't come down from the goddamn Smoky Mountains, cross five thousand miles of water, fight my way through half of Sicily and jump out of a fuckin' air-o-plane to teach the Juniors lessons in humanity. Junior ain't got no humanity. They're the foot soldiers of a Competitive -hatin', mass murderin' maniac and they need to be dee-stroyed. That's why any and every every son of a bitch we find wearin' a junior tag, they're gonna die. Now, I'm the direct descendant of the mountain man Jim Bridger. That means I got a little Injun in me. And our battle plan will be that of an Apache resistance. We will be cruel to the Junior, and through our cruelty they will know who we are. And they will find the evidence of our cruelty in the disemboweled, dismembered, and disfigured bodies of their brothers we leave behind us. And the Junior won't not be able to help themselves but to imagine the cruelty their brothers endured at our hands, and our boot heels, and the edge of our knives. And the Junior will be sickened by us, and the Junior will talk about us, and the Junior will fear us. And when the Junior closes their eyes at night and they're tortured by their subconscious for the evil they have done, it will be with thoughts of us they are tortured with. Sound good?

Reading the descriptions, doesn't sound like any are Covenant themed. :(

Also let's hope that 343 handles the playlists of DLC a hell of a lot better than Reach.

I don't think I've ever played a match of Ridgeline in matchmaking....

December? Sweet.

Also, I don't know how much weight it holds, but one E3 (can't remember if it was prior to Halo 4's reveal or last year), the Kotaku guy (Totilo?) was on Keighly's pre show saying that MS didn't want anymore purple in Halo. Maybe that's why the Covenant maps are no where to be found? Sounds crazy, but it's weird that there isn't a single one out of what will be...22 maps?

So it sorta sounds like they held back maps from on disk to sell as DLC?

Im thinking the exact same thing but with as many employees working on this thing, not to mention top talent, the budget must be sky high. They have to recoup the cost somehow, so the scope of the project is a set amount then they begin working on DLC, it could be the maps are already designed just not fully made to which they will roll out as DLC.

This is becoming more and more an industry practice which im okay with as long is the game is good and I can play it at least 2 years like Reach.

The best thing about this model is that's almost guaranteed not to be a problem.
No fragmentation of players who have none, some or all of the maps, it's great.

If that's the case they should do what they did with the new weapon textures and make the architecture alloy an almost black tint.

Silly reason though, I can't believe that's true.
