Nintendo Direct 2012.11.7 on Wii U system features - Nov. 7, 6AM EST

Ugh. This is a "user", right? Not the "account". MEH.

The fact the ID is a number isn't bad. The fact there's no alias (confirmed so far) or the fact sharing is done with the number is the horrible part. You don't search Steam IDs with the number.

Right, but steam IDs are different to account IDs, and I don't see any indication you search by number.

Wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait ..... WAIT

Did Iwata get a haircut?

I made a joke that Sakurai loves Iwata's hair and that's why he was telling us it's a must watch. Looks like I was close to the truth.

Oh man, this is amazing.

so I was just watching the translated Nintendo Direct, whats the info on VC/WiiWare transfer from the website?

To be posted later.

Is there anyway I can see the ND later? Can't right now at class.

Do you guys have a link to watch this? I just woke up.

Is there going to be a english version of this?

Japanese: http://www.nintendo.co.jp/wiiu/direct20121107/index.html
English: http://www.nintendo.co.uk/Misc-/Nintendo-Direct/Nintendo-Direct/Nintendo-Direct-638747.html

Did they say anything about accomplishments?

No.

So wait, is video chat the only way to communicate with friends?

No text or voice chat directly with friends or in a party?

That's weird, love that I can accept video calls while playing a game though.

Did anyone else catch the Nintendo TVii icon in the pause home menu? Definitely looks like it will also make it to other regions other than North America.

By the way, Joysound Wii was just released in North America last week, if anyone is curious about the karaoke game. The Wii U version looks absolutely killer. Personally, I'd seriously consider buying a Japanese Wii U just for this if I could scrounge up the money...

You can send messages to friend privately via Miiverse (accesible via the Home button during play).

The Home button will flash blue when someone is trying to call you during play.

Any word on voice chat while playing online (in Black Ops 2 for example)? Do I need to buy a headset, or can I use the microphone/speakers on the Gamepad?

Okay I just woke up but this feature:

Number of times people empathized with him: 0

As part of the ID really made me laugh.

I'm assuming no word on how long usernames can be, right? Your nickname on the 3DS is really limited.

For those with an insight into Japanese culture, are there any comparable home karaoke machines with the same features as the one for Wii U?
Do you think this may turn out to be a killer app in Japan?

Can you video chat with more than one person at a time? Sorry if its been answered before, I'm really behind on my Wii U news.

Huh? This was covered weeks ago. No voice chat via the GamePad mic if only for the most obvious reason that the noise from your hands on the controller and the game sound would totally render this unusable.

I think so too. It'll be interesting to see how Sony & MS will respond to this. Vita's activity stream was a nice try, but ended up lifeless as you can only write things to comments.

Most people in Japan go to karaoke boxes when they want to sing with their friends. It's a big industry. Singing at home might not go over so well, as dwellings are tightly packed, walls are paper-thin, and the neighbors would likely be able to hear.

I figured that instance with Black Ops 2 was simply chalked up to being a launch game. That "obvious reason" is a silly one, considering the Vita and even 3DS let you do voice chat that way. Hell, it would basically be a glorifed Wii Speak. The more opitions the better I say, especially one that gives anybody the ability to voice chat out of the box instead of needing to buy an accessory to do so.

Hopefully they release a patch one day to allow it ( if it already isn't allowed).

I have a question for anyone interested in answering.

Did Nintendo benefit in anyway for waiting so long to reveal the info from today's Nintendo Direct (just two weeks before launch)?

Wonder if the UK will get the karaoke game. Sony's Singstar games are developed here so there is a market. Though it does seem to clash with that other WiiU singing game.

I'm guessing that had to do with Nintendo taking as much time as possible to finalize everything (don't want to announce something that might later be cut), and I'm sure Nintendo was also worried about competitors stealing their ideas (as always).

No, but considering launch consoles require a day-one firmware update to add this stuff, I think the reason they haven't showed it up until now was because it simply wasn't finished.
