GTA V GameInformer Discussion (11/8, 12PM EST)

Ugh don't give this guys site the hits. For anyone who's been in that games journalism thread on here you'll know that David Scammell is the BF of the infamous Lauren Wainwright. Videogamer.com is part of the 'problem'.

I never really picked up on that Lauren Wainwright controversy. Only caught wind of it after eurogamer edited it's article.

The screenshots are fucking crazy, it looks amazing.

Yup. When you see the screens especially the Audi car model, the motorbike one and the parachute one with skyscrapers your mind will be fucking blown. It looks like a next-gen game because of size of the shit on screen.

Absolutely amazing.

I think GTA games have "Memorable characters" but not memorable stories

I'd agree with that. All the GTA games usually lose their focus in the middle but their strong characters keep them from spinning out completely.

I think this three protagonists move is designed to combat that kind of story drag.

Whereas something like RDR has a strong story and strong characters imo.

Going back to the old idea that the game world might not be surrounded by water for once, Maybe flying off the map could just zoom out and switch you to another character?

And will being killed cut to you exiting hospital or will it switch to another character?

Lol.
Never took that as a proof of properties economy, btw (like many of GTAForums did) i knew R* simply puts a ton of side animations to do their world building and it also could've been a simple cutscene, but nevertheless, i expected being able to buy houses and such like in ViceCity, San Andreas or Vice City Stories.
Oh well, we'll see how they play it out.

If we can't buy property, here's hoping we'll have several apartments for each character to reside in with unique interiors. I'm wondering too if there will be businesses that the characters could run. It seems so strange especially with that shot in the trailer.

That's bound to happen due to the sheer size of the game alone.

Each character having his safeouse in a different part of the map, i wouldn't bet on it.
Well if Michael lives in a mansion in Rockford Hills under witness protection, I doubt that's open to Trevor or Franklin for realism sake. Maybe they'll co-own a few.

Also, I would love to see police bikes return.

Exactly and for that reason they said the three characters also help you travel from one part of the map to the other quickly.
They expect you to switch characters a lot, and if you want to go to the desert, Michael doesn't need to have a safehouse there, because you can always switch to Trevor who does.

I think this switching mechanic may (in their heads, at least) supply that gamedesign need of having multiple spawn points.

Ah, good point.

I'll be cool with that, though I imagine it may piss some people off.

I am disappointed, more than pissed off (even because we still don't know shit).
I would've liked having character specific economic features:

Michael can't buy houses (seeing as he already owns a villa) but can buy commercial activities.

Franklin is working his way up, so he can buy better houses, but he's young so no commercial activities.

Trevor is nut and doesn't like company, so he can buy more criminal related stuff, a werehouse, a hangar, a place to dispose of bodies, whatever.

I hope they have something cool in mind.

There better be an 80's station. and it better have Hall & Oates on there. That's all I can say.
Co-sign.

Something like that would be neat. I think they mentioned specific side things unique to each character, so hopefully they have something interesting planned.

I'm just hoping for the return of a good hard rock/metal station. Liberty Rock was alright but it's not my type, and LCHC was a joke station full of horrendous "music".

Yeah, they said "one or two minigames" though, i hope they'll push it beyond that.

So far i imagine something like: Only Michael can do Yoga, and so on. very little minor things.

The bitching on GTAForums is a bit ridiculous (as expected) but i gotta admit, i'm a bit surprised by the absence of buyable properties.

I can understand the technical limitations of the fat/thin thing, with this level of graphical fidelity, but the properties were a thing everybody loved and that could've been character specific (if they didn't want Trevor owning a villa in Beverly Hills).
I'm really curious how they can handle the economy otherwise, because it's not like there are many ways to do that.
And yeah, looking forward to the previews on the 12th, because the GI is incredibly lacking on crucial info.

i don't think the fat/thin thing is due to technical limitations, more so its about time and resource management. saints row 3 even had sliders for body size

i really wanted properties as well, but i'm okay with each of the three having distinct different homes. i just hope there is still significant and worthwhile things to spend your money on. at least being able to buy businesses would have been nice. i want the experience of getting richer as you get further into the game be reflected in the game world around me.

Yeah, that's what i meant.
Even though with a simple trainer you could give Niko the fat ped animations, so i don't know.
I guess newgen R* had to then adjust every single little detail to the life of a fat Michael, from the comments of his family to the way he drives, so that's why they say it would've been too complicated.
Saint's Row doesn't really give a shit if you're fat or thin, the game doesn't reflect that in any way, shape or form.

EDIT: Oh, attention to detail that is the reason why i will be seriously pissed, if they don't put animals in their wilderness/countryside.

I just came into this thread to say that this...

"Los Santos in GTA V is bigger than the worlds of RDR, San Andreas, and GTA IV combined."

boggles my FUCKING MIND.

Welcome to the party.
GTA4s radio stations were the first to disappointment in the series. They weren't bad, just not my thing. LCHC was definitely terrible.
Agreed. Although I still like Integrity 2.0. I love Lazlow. Although Chatterbox FM hasn't been topped. Loved VRock for the music alone.

I really hope R* does something with the community feedback concerning buying property.. although, at this point.. if they explicitly stated it's out, that's not going to change. I'm kinda surprised how many people were hoping for it... then again, some of the property related missions in VC were great.

I'll wait to hear what this "vibrant economy" is all about first.
Though the price changes by region in RDR, i could barely notice.

Loved everything about GTA IV except for the music. Commentary was great, commercials were great, but the music itself was the worst in the series yet.

Here's hoping that is turned around in GTA V.

Agreed it was the first game where I stuck to 1 station most of the time (liberty rock) until I got it on PC and used my own music. Vice City had the best soundtrack of any game ever and San Andreas was also really good.

I think those games greatly benefited by their eras though while GTA 4 and 5 are stuck with mostly modern music, and IMO modern music is a wasteland.

Houser openly admitted they know how there was virtually nothing to buy with money in 4 and they are going to fix that. So if property isn't an option I have to think they have some other big plans in the works.

Truth be told I kind of hope they come up with something new. Property is nice but if it's not like VC which had exclusive missions tied to them, or if you can't participate in some kind of advanced real estate system by flipping houses then all they are are more buildings where you can save and do nothing else. It'd be nice to see some kind of evolution or new thing that we can start begging them to have in future GTAs instead of property.

I'm sure that's the whole map of GTA V, not just the city of Los Santos because that would be absurd.

Couldn't agree more. I really want to see more classic rock/heavy metal stations. Iron Maiden, Slayer, Sabbath, Zeppelin, Megadeth, Deep Purple, etc.

Can't wait for the physical issue to hit the newsstands. I need some good reading material for the bowl. Nothing better than a nice GTA spread. :)
