Halo 4 |OT| Spartans Never Die

Just had host in flood, oh my you can really tell the difference especially when you shotgun charging zombies and feel like a god doing so, usually you kill each other.

About how long is Spartan Ops? Gonna hop into it tonight.

With complete randoms (default online difficulty is Heroic) I'd say 30-40 mins. I tried to solo the first mission on Legendary...was a train wreck.

But yeah I'd say sub 10 mins for each mission

Omg im glad im not alone. How is it not much easier to grab the flag and work your way down as opposed to working your way up? One team has a gigantic advantage on that map. Horrible. I hate it too.

Not only that but one flag is in the open, the other is inside a base and has paths with cover in every direction.

The map is just awful in general. Its like they took backwash and decided to make it asymmetrical and put it at a 30 degree angle. It has no flow to it (well that is most of the maps).

I don't mind the Crawler design (the insectoid look across all three Promethean units is an interesting way to display the "hive mind/security drone" mentality) but I do think the face could use some touch ups, as well as the rank variations. "LET'S ADD SPIKES" is an obvious indicator, but also lazy, honestly. It in part has to do with how similar some of the big weapon silhouettes are for Promethean weapons are, notably the Binary and Light Rifles, similar to the Shotgun and DMR in Reach. I'll try and do a study and revise their designs when I get home.
Would sincerely like to see that. I agree with your take on design.

I finished the campaign tonight and this was one wild ride from start to finish. I think the franchise is in excellent hands with 343. Some may disagree, but I think that Microsoft finally has their own Naughty Dog/Guerrilla Games under their umbrella. I am a little bit perplexed that it has taken 7 years for a developer to really make a 360 game that looks this good. We have been seeing this kind of work on the PS3 for a few years now. EPIC came very close last year IMO with Gears 3, but this tops Gears 3 from a technical standpoint.

I am excited to see where 343 will take Halo 5 next with the Chief. The story was a little bit confusing at times in H4, overall I think it was well done and the relationship between Master Chief and Cortana was an emotional ride all the way to the end.

I had 2 issues with the game which I hope that 343 learns from since it is the same mistake some of these guys made under the Bungie banner. First issue I had were some of the levels that actually felt like they were repeating themselves. This has been an issue with Halo since the stupid Library in the first game. Having to go through a few sections where you have to go turn on a switch and the room is reversed has driven me nuts with this series. Then I can stand some of the industrial looking interiors, I am ready for some new locales considering that 343 has really done an excellent job with the graphics. Again, these are just complaints that I have had for years with Halo.

I hope the Promethean race is expanded in H5 if this is the main enemies that we will continue to fight since we only saw the same Prometheans over and over throughout the game. I love the Covenant, especially those grunts, their cute.....but no more. LOL! The Promethean Knights are menacing as hell, hope we see more of them in H5.

I think this year for GOTY for me is between Sleeping Dogs, Max Payne 3, and Halo 4. I still have to play AC3 before deciding.

That would be a perfect one flag map, you know, that game type they dont have anymore.

It's increasingly obvious who is using Default and who isn't, you can tell by the people who can actively crouch and those who can't.

Really frustrating that they made B crouch for default.

Is it possible to play campaign with people not on your friends list? (randoms)

Nope. It's also not possible to play Spartan Ops on Legendary via matchmaking.

It's incredibly stupid.

Thanks, I thought I was just that bad at figuring out how to play the campaign with others not on my friends list. Guess I'll try this Legendary run solo.......

Argh! Running out of ammo constantly.

Yep. It's probably because weapons CONSTANTLY despawn. I don't know why they did that.

Is theater mode fully implemented? I'm getting no results when looking for films to check out.

I'm not entirely sure, but I think you have to go to your file browser and move the files over to your local folder in order to view them in Theater? I could be wrong.

I'm not even sure about that. It would either end in a quick flag cap or a round of spawn camping.

I wish there was a way that you could simply swap crouch and sprint.
Agreed. Haven is by far my favorite map, the others are sub par and really not fun to play on at all.

Even Haven isn't that good. There top and bottom of the map are completely isolated and all it ends up being is shooting down narrow corridors or rushing the middle of the map.

Of every Halo game that has matchmaking, Halo 4's is hands down the worst, no contest.

JIP
Party splitting
Host migrations
Host selection
Net code

Basically every facet of the experience is painful.

That's what I was trying to do but I'm not getting any results with any type of filter, unfortunately. Maybe the servers are just acting up.

Yeah I was surprised with how often parties are split. JIP hasn't been awful so far, but the splitting is far too often.

I've only done the first chapter on heroic (solo) and I ran out of ammo in that room where the gravity is all weird and the covenant troops just float after they die. The weapons also float away after they die smh

took me forever to finish that part. Last chapter I did lol. I'll finish the game one day!

Giving people wall hacks was a terrible idea... I've only used it once, but I already feel guilty. And it costs less than the other abilities!

There are plenty of weapons in the weapon caches on the walls. Never really had a problem finding weapons/ammo in my Heroic run, maybe you guys aren't exploring the levels enough?

Finished this for the first time last night (Heroic difficulty).
A really great campaign. Assume the same impressions most people have about the visuals but here's some observations:

Pros:
+ Promethean Watcher + Knight/Crawler relationship is one of the greatest enemy ideas in quite a while. Sort of brings some StarCraft 2 sensibility to an FPS. Great design.
+ FMWs are really well done and directed.
+ Interesting story developments. Most interesting Halo campaign story since #2.
+ No really bad levels in this one, mostly excellent ones. Maybe the
last few were maybe a bit bland. Don't like hangar/spacecraft levels much
.
+ Art assets are terrific and helps show of the impressive graphics engine.
+ Soundtrack (which you really can't experience fully in the game, see Cons) is terrific.

Cons:
- Promethean Knight on foot A.I is disappointing. Teleporting is very cool but the respawn points are too few/obvious and they are mostly just bullet sponges. Overall I don't find Halo A.I (covenant/human/promethean) exceptional anymore.
- Story makes vague sense on a surface level but not having read the books/terminals yet there is a lot of unexplained stuff.
- Sound mix is HORRIBLE! The soundtrack for this game is outstanding but I wouldn't know that playing the game! Neil Davidge must be pissed. Warthog sound fx is an offense.
- Still some level repetition, practically a series trademark now.
(- 343 Industries is a terrible studio name even if it relates to Halo lore.)

Other:
+/- Campaign theater is out and levels aren't as huge as they were in previous outings and I'm suspecting this is due to the new graphics engine. Still spacey though and very purdy so not necessarily a bad trade-off for an end-of-gen title.

I loved this. Now onto multiplayer...

That'd be my guess. There are weapon racks all over the place, although Promethean ones are much easier to miss. That and just scavenging weapons from the enemies you take down.

Did you update waypoint(by going to Waypoint on the Halo 4 disc)? It should be fully updated, otherwise you get weird issue's.

I tried to launch Waypoint from the game and I got hit with a black screen for ~three minutes so I shut the system off.

What is this
Star Fox
?!

Edit: Actually this feels more like the
tunnel sections from Fury3
, another Microsoft game.

I thought it was not bad, but I still think the
Wing Commander section in Reach
was a lot better. it just felt more fully realized.

At the moment I think I disagree.
At least the section in Halo 4 was a fully realized level that you had to plow through, Long Night of Solace is sheer monotony. My problem is that it boils down the sandbox to nothing, and you're left with this bubble to do a boring space fight in for 15 minutes. At least in 4 it reflects another one of those vehicle run sections that I'm fine with, it's less about combat (which was boring in LNoS) and more about navigating the level space.

Definitely easier than Reach IMO, especially the second half.
Yup. Prometheans simply aren't very interesting or difficult enemies to combat. Once the Knights kick out the Elites in encounters, I felt the game became a heck of a lot easier. They aren't aggressive at all.

Wing Commander > Star Fox is pretty much what I'm getting at

Loving Halo 4, ya it has it's problems right now that you all clearly stated. But I haven't had this much excitement in a Halo MP in years.

I could just jump on H4 and spend countless hours playing MM. Really can't wait until the skill ranks. Having a blast 343i, Bravo.

Okay so I beat the game on legendary and got the Mark VI armor, but my brother just did the same thing and didn't get the armor, but got the achievement. Is there any other requirement to get the armor?

Argh! Running out of ammo constantly.

Use the whole sandbox!

I felt the same way on my first playthrough, but I just finished my legendary run and used the entire sandbox, to great effect. Only effectively ran out of ammo on one standoff encounter.
