Mega Man 25th Anniversary Playthrough Topic of Stealing Other Thread Ideas

YES! After nearly a decade of hating the fuck out of Burner Man, I have finally beat him. And only on my second try too! The first battle I had with him was rage inducing. He trolled the fuck out of me.

But I owned the motherfucker so hard the second time.

Burner Man

Well done on beating Burner Man. He still manages to be a bit of a pain when I fight him now, alongside Dynamo Man who can also be a pain if your not careful (regenerating health bar for the lose!)

Ground Man

Yeah, he definitely has the hardest level in this game. Dear God. It's so long and so much shit happens in the most annoying and difficult way. If I hadn't done this level 200 times before on the GBA, I would have been destroyed.

Watching Game Grumps got me in the mood to play MM7 again. It'll be buster only for the bosses, but I intend to use the boss weapons on the levels for the secrets and because the Rush adapter is fun to use. I'm already at the second set of bosses, I'll upload the rest of what I have later.

Burst Man
Freeze Man

Burst Man's stage always makes me nervous when watching other people play it, hahaha.

All those spikes, right? Hahaha XD

Funfact, what's not pictured in the Freeze Man run is me getting a game over literally only from attempts at getting Rush Search. When I finally thought of just using Rush to get Rush rather than getting a pixel perfect jump like I had always done before, my only thoughts at the moment were something like "FUCK YOU GAME I DO WHAT I WANT" XD

Here's Cloud Man this time
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nIXMlods8ic&feature=g-upl

I still need to upload Junk and that clown thing at the museum later, and then finish the second set of bosses...I just know I'm so going to give up at Wily's Castle though.

I really never liked Cloud Man's stage that much. It has a couple of cool things about it, but it's pretty damn easy. Cloud Man is also a fucking joke with the D. Wrap.

And without it too...honestly, all of the first 4 bosses are actually kinda easy even with only the buster. Hell, Burst Man is pretty much weak to the charge shot.

I beat Mega Man & Bass! Holy fuck, this is by FAR the hardest Mega Man game. I could barely fucking beat it, what the fuck.

I will upload the other Robot Master and King stages in a bit.

Mega Man & Bass

Mega Man & Bass is, essentially, a far superior version of Mega Man 8. It presents similar graphics (especially impressive since this is an SNES title), two familiar Robot Masters, and many of the same enemies. But while Mega Man 8 suffered from atrocious level design decisions, lame as hell Robot Masters and slow gameplay that made Mega Man 7 feel like Sonic in comparison, Mega Man & Bass fixes all of this for one of the most satisfying Mega Man experiences around. The music is still a dud, as it had been for years up to that point in the Classic series, but the level design is both brilliant and wonderfully balanced to suit the play styles of both Mega Man and Bass.

Its balance is fairly obvious when played as sometimes you’ll come across a level clearly designed with Bass in mind. This is countered by Bass’s extremely weak and unwieldy regular attack, making it an enormous pain against bosses when only using the buster. Mega Man has trouble with stages because of the lack of double jump, but his charge shot and slide make fights again Robot Masters much easier, along with the much more useful slide mechanic. Unfortunately, it comes as a major downside, as early goings of the game can be near the levels of blind Mega Man 1 runs in terms of difficulty. But as with any decent Mega Man, once you learn its mechanics and run through each level a couple of times, it becomes a blast. Beginner Mega Man players keep in mind that Mega Man & Bass, when played through for the first time, is the most brutal in the entire series. Inafune stated he wanted Mega Man & Bass to be a Mega Man for the younger generation, but apparently he’s lying as the game is absolutely unrelenting in its difficulty. While it’s fun for a Mega Man fan, casuals will find themselves throwing their controllers in frustrations, and even veteran Mega Man fans should tread cautiously.

Mega Man & Bass is not the best of the series, but it’s certainly one of the most memorable. With mostly brilliant level design and a wonderfully cheesy and difficult cast of Robot Masters and levels, Mega Man & Bass is both challenging and a whole ton of fun. It’s a shame that this was never released in the US for the SNES, but for those willing to play a slightly inferior version, the GBA version is also mostly excellent. Hopefully any future Mega Man compilations will contain the superior SNES version in all its fantastic glory.

Grade: B+

And here's the last of what I have until I find the time to finish.

Junk Man
Robot Museum

Junk Man was giving me trouble, but as soon as I realized that I should just slide under Junk Shield rather than try to jump over it the battle became pretty easy.

Junk Man is pretty difficult with buster only runs. With the thunder bolt weakness though, he's a goddamn joke.

Anyways, still uploading Mega Man & Bass King Stages. In the mean time, I started Mega Man & Bass 2 for Wonderswan. The recording is a little messed up because my mouse never disappeared from the screen for some reason and it stopped recording in the middle of the boss, but here is the intro stage for it:

That game looks astonishingly awful.

It is. And it has, by far, the worst Robot Master in history.

I'm still in awe at how stupid this Robot Master is. It will be fun once I get to him.

That looked so, SO bad.

Also, I wouldn't say Junk Man is difficult at all with the buster when you remember that the slide exists as an evasive maneuver, his pattern is pretty damn simple. Well, all of the bosses in this game kinda have that, but still.

Working on Mega Man and Bass now. It's definitely one of the harder games in the series but not unmanageable. I beat Cold Man first (easy) and then after crashing and burning on some of the other stages, went through Ground Man's stage without too much trouble. Trying to decide which level to tackle next...

Yeah, Mega Man & Bass is fucking difficult as hell. Those King Stages are an absolute nightmare and probably the hardest final levels of any Mega Man titles, mainly due to their length (I think King Stage 2 took me 30 minutes) and some tough as hell bosses.

Anyways, I can't play Mega Man & Bass 2. I really, really can't. It's awful, although it has one cool squid mini-boss. And my recording is messed up.

It's a super short game though so I will force my way through it. But I won't record it.

And if anyone was wondering. Mega Man & Bass 2 has the worst Robot Master ever. The Robot Master is...

...

Get ready...

Air Conditioner Man.

Fucking.

Air.

Conditioner.

Man.

The hell are you talking about, clearly only a genius could've come up with bosses like Komuso Man, Konro Man, Air Conditioner Man, Dangan Man (why didn't they just call him Bullet Man? That actually sounds kinda cool. Sounds), Clock Men, and Compass Man?

Only a genius I tell you.

I'm having a hell of a time with Mega Man and Bass. Some of these levels are excruciatingly hard, like Tengu Man's. I'm also playing as Mega Man, which makes a lot of the platforming even harder. I finally managed to work my way through Astro Man's level but I can't beat him. Need to find his weakness...

Geniuses! Mega Man & Bass 2 is secretly the greatest game ever made.

Yeah, Mega Man & Bass can be a problem because some of the weaknesses make no sense, and the odd progression of the game makes it harder to experiment since the Robot Master level themselves are unlocked so oddly.

Anyways, beat Mega Man & Bass 2 in about 40 minutes. Quick review will come eventually. But until then, I am playing Mega Man 9! So fucking good, but SO FUCKING EASY. I made it through Galaxy Man's stage only getting hit once, and then I didn't get hit at all against Galaxy Man.

^ Best review ever.

9 kicked my ass so bad when it came out. It's sorta like 2, it still gives me problems even though I know it's mostly just me forgetting shit.

I only got like 2 games a year as a kid, so I can practically play Mega Man 3 - 5 with my eyes closed I played them so much.

Yeah, I actually hated Mega Man 9 when it came out since I hadn't played a Mega Man game since Anniversary Collection. So I was so bad that I literally couldn't be a level and put the game away for a year calling it the worst Mega Man game.

Then I played it that year later and beat it over 30 times in a month.

It's just that stuff like the platforming in Astro Man's stage (like the disappearing blocks) were clearly designed for Bass and they're ten times harder with Mega Man. Fortunately, I get better with the levels with repetition but it's definitely one of the hardest MM games I've played.

Edited to add: Beat a few bosses this morning, namely Astro Man and the super-irritating Magic Man. Now, I'm trying to beat Burner Man but he's incredibly difficult because his weakness barely works on him and as usual with this game, his level is frustrating. I'm dreading the finale levels...

I remember finding MM9 difficult when I first played it (same with 10) but I'll need a replay to properly judge them. I recall 9 being better.

They are great, but also pretty hard the first time around if you want decent ranks and the EX skills.

Kings Stages are the fucking hardest in the entire Classic series.

Continuing my Mega Man 9 playthrough!

Splash Woman
Jewel Man

Jewel Man might have my favorite weapon in the entire series.

King's stages wouldn't even be that bad if it wasn't because FUCK YOU PSEUDO BOSS RUSH. It'd be bearable if they were their own separate stage, but no, they just had to put all the King ____ bosses in the same one :/

I love Jewel Shield too, so fucking broken. I don't think there's a weapon in MM9 that I even dislike, it's pretty much the best arsenal in the entire series.

Completely disagree about Z4 btw, it may be because I only actually owned 3 and 4 until the DS collection came out, but I love those two :|

Mega Man Zerp 1-3 are some of my favorite games ever.

Zero 4 is really bad and it almost ruined the series for me.

Get the Collection on DS if you can.

Thanks a bunch I might actually snag a collection copy if I find it cheap.

Yep, that's the major problem. Four fucking boss fights that are hard as shit all in one goddamn stage in King Stage 2. It drove me nearly insane and that plane fight is only hard because it goes on FOR FUCKING EVER.

And then the final King boss in King Stage 2 where you have to aim at his head in such a small fucking hit window with Bass it's ridiculous. And easy boss battle made super hard because it's so fucking hard to hit the tiny spot.

Splash Woman
Jewel Man

Jewel Man might have my favorite weapon in the entire series.

For some reason I never got Splash Woman's pattern until watching this. I just used the Hornet Chaser and tried avoiding the tridents. No wonder most people start with her.

Jewel Man's stage always gives me problems just because of that one platform you have to swing right and jump left. It also has my favorite music in the game, though that's sorta like saying it's my favorite course of a 5 star meal.

Mega Man and Bass definitely takes the crown as the hardest MM I've ever played. Harder than 2 and harder than Zero. I feel like screaming. ;)

Yeah, Splash Woman is pretty easy, but I hadn't played Mega Man 9 in years so it took me a couple of seconds to get her pattern back down.

I always do Galaxy Man first though. Much easier stage and the boss is incredibly easy. Then I do Splash Woman, Jewel Man, Concrete Man, Plug Man, Tornado Man, Magma Man, and then finish off with Hornet Man who, in my opinion, has the hardest level in the game.

King Stage 2, by FAR, is my most hated stage in the entire series. The stages themselves are not hard, but boss fight after boss fight and it goes on forever. The final stage also has some pretty tricky platforming, but it's not too bad.

You don't know pain until you have to fight a Tank that's a huge pain in the ass to hit its weak spots, a Jet that you have to fight on floating platforms that can and WILL be destroyed and in some cases with Mega Man getting the wrong one destroyed means you're fucked, King, and the 3 combined. In a row in the same stage.

Sometimes aggravates Mega Man's sinuses, has a pretty chill boss room, but never made the main series due to infuriating Dr. Wily with enormous power bill.

Hum.

Air Conditioner Man.

I haven't even made it to Stage 2 yet. I'm still stewing over Stage 1. ;) I appreciate that removing energy tanks has fixed some of the balancing problems earlier MMs had (like 3), it's also added a whole extra layer of sadism.

The Robot Masters and their levels were also a definite step up in difficulty over past games that I've played. It's a great game and a lot of fun but sometimes, it feels like I'm playing Dark Souls instead of Mega Man. ;)
