You just earn them passively over time, nothing you can do to increase the rate or anything.

They have one or two friends in the GAF group out of their mere seven, but at least they play their games quite a bit. I'd start doing the private linking if I were you; I've had bad luck and ambiguous results like you with the "GAF group" giveaways.

Is there like an active forum on the site? I havent added anyone to steamgift friends or anything like that, but I try to keep up with active GAF giveaways.

As for the points thing more specifically it is completely relative to the giveaways that are added. I think you get 5% of the points for any added giveaway. So if someone adds a giveaways worth 100 points, you'd get 5.

So technically it's not really over time because if no one made any giveaways then you would no longer get any points. It's also why on the first couple days when new popular bundles are released there's a gigantic influx of points. I've probably gotten oer 300 today alone.

Well having been out of the pc scene for a long time this whole thing is jsut so damn awesome now. I picked up Half Life 2, L4D2, and Portal 2 for like $7 total yesterday. Gamefly is giving away free copies of Bioshock... I'm just kicking myself for having missed out on this kind of stuff for as long as I did.
