Guys, I have it on VERY, VERY good authority (read: I've seen the fucking pics!) that episode 8 of From the New World is :DTL and :SDBurton to the MAX! I'm not talking about subtle stuff here. Seriously. I am HYPED now. Holy shit!!!

Welp, looks like the time has come for me to start watching this. Marathon is go.

If this turns out well I may put this show on the top of my list.

I've only seen a few screens from the episode, but it also looks noticeably more detailed and more colorful than the last few episodes. But that might be expected, since the episode had 4 animation directors (including Ishihama, the director!), and 6 assistant animation directors. Lololol. A shitload of key animators this week too.

Woah, awesome! I thought from the preview that the quality of the storyboarding and character art was "back to normal", but it'll be interesting to see what that translates to in motion.

I guess they're definitely starting the new arc with a bang!

Fingers crossed.

Psycho Pass 06

Jeez. I am having more trouble than I should figuring out what it is I dislike about this show, because a lot of stuff bugs me but determining which error is the most egregious isn't exactly easy.

I think one of the major things it comes down to is scope. Psycho Pass tries to be this big thing with a wide cast of characters who it jumps between to tell a larger narrative. For example, let's just look at the
victim
of this case. They are introduced up front in a scene dedicated to only them, but why? Her character is never built up. Why do we get this view into the school at all?

This show is terrible at doling out information, and the jumps between scenes feels jarring as Pyscho Pass shoots between meaningless characters that I neither know nor care about. Even when the show tries to establish some character backstory (surprise, it is dark and filled with regret) it feels impersonal. Like, the show has this information and you need to know it so it just kind of reads it off the list.

Psycho Pass is based more around its cases than its characters, but the way these play out is uninteresting because there is no investment in those characters its made up of. Even the cases themselves hold no surprises as the show reveals all the necessary information beforehand. I realize that this episode is setting up something longer, but it doesn't even have its own climax. Maybe that's because the confrontational scenes are as flat as the art portraying the event.

Horizon - 13 (Finale)

I'm glad it's over. Let's run it down.

Positive:
- Funny ensemble of characters
- More than decent setting
- Great OST at times
- I really liked that spear weapon
- Miyuki Sawashiro was in it

Negative:
- Simply awful storytelling
- Dramatic moments simply didn't work...
- ... because the character motivations weren't explained. I have no idea why people did what they do.
- Battles were too short and chatter was too long.
- Aoi Toori was not at all an engaging protagonist
- Character ensemble was under-utilized.

Ultimately this show was more and more a chore to watch.

I rate this show 4/10.

Didn't someone here say that more key animators generally means they're running behind schedule or something? Lol, I guess they needed all of those animation directors if they had a ton of key animators though.

Double post, I know, but different topic. Apologies.

Next week's issue of Shonen Sunday has the reveal for the new Detective Conan movie, but it also uses two more of their "reveals" on the upcoming Sasami-san @ Ganbaranai anime and new Zettai Karen Children spinoff series, though at least there is new news that the new ZKC anime starts in January.

Looks like they're planning two more reveals in the December 12th issue, and then one each for Dec. 26, Jan. 16, and Jan. 30. Though it seems like this week has lots of detail on Conan but almost nothing on the other two, so we might get more on Sasami and ZKC in the next two weeks. I don't really get their plan for this.

They are just burning through those reveals. So I guess it'll be like half already known/expected and maybe some actual new reveals?

Polar Bear Cafe 33

this episode pretty much started off with sakuga toku penguins. 10/10 as it really doesn't get any better than that. well, until this happened:

11/10

You mean until this happened:

I appreciate the screen grabs some of you guys include and all, but sometimes it is way too much on spoiling certain moments.
You'll just have to learn to watch first and read later. You'll never change people's posting habits.

and llama is always at the butt of it :(

someday he will shine!
Well at least he got one of the better ending.

Though it is quite funny (or tragic) that the PBC team can pump out all these great looking EDs and some studios fail at just making one.

Oh and today I finally fell down the rabbit hole.

Space Brothers 27:
When do Mutta's parents get their spinoff? Every scene with them was comedy gold here.

I really loved the way the present day and flashback scenes were intertwined in this episode, harkening back to the first couple of episodes of the series. Mutta's conversation with Azuma, and then the flashbacks with Azuma talking to Brian Jay and Hibito were great, and I'm becoming more interested in Azuma's character. I really enjoyed that lingering scene of him on the rooftop. This episode was really filled with some golden moments.

Hmm, it looks like Kadokawa uploaded a new version of their previous Date A Live PV which they've labled as "ver1.1" -- it's the exact same content as before (save for a single newly voiced line at the end), but the colors and effects look a bit sharper and less washed out, and the staff and cast credits are now all given in English as well. Give it a watch if you'd like.

If I don't see some new footage of Kurumi soon I'm going to explode and destroy everything within a 5 mile radius.

psgels wrote his Winter preview, if anyone cares.
Not sure if some shows are missing, actually, is everything that should be broadcasted announced?

Not a fan of his blogging, but I prefer these kind of write-ups to charts.

Wow winter looks awful, I guess I will pick up, Hakkenden: Touhou Hakken Ibun, though how is that a negative?
Agh, Studio Deen with its bishies again. No, not again! Miyuki Abe’s other works all seem to be generic yaoi and shounen ai. Try to do something different for a change!

Amnesia, Cuticle Detective Inaba, Senyuu...

Winter is always backlog season. There are a handful of shows at most that are watchable during the seemingly off-peak seasons of Winter and Summer.

Yeah, pretty much. We had a good winter season a couple of years ago, but the season is usually fairly dead. At least we're getting Chihayafuru this year.

Saki sums up this episode really well, with that face

Hot.

Visually this episode looked really bad to me with really weird faces and inconsistencies, quality is no where near first episodes to me. Still much better than last 3-4 boring rat slaughter episodes, quite excited again to see how things unfold. hmm

Awesome! Despite having not seen the show yet, I still would love this nendoroid.
Nendoroids are awesome!
I did enjoy the show though I wouldn't say it was my favourite, but I really liked the look of this figure. Well pirates are bodacious after all.

What about her mom?!
If they ever make one for her I'm sure it will be a long way off. I predict Chiaki, Gruier, Mami and Misa will be given higher priority.

I told you all I had seen the light, and I did not lie:

So...tempted...to...go...
