App reviews in the Play Store will soon require a Google+ account, and future reviews will be posted showing your full Google+ name and picture ... Reviewing apps will require a G+ account - it even says so in the string name, "reviews_google_plus_required." Your name and picture will be next to your reviews. If you don't have G+, you'll be prompted to join.

I like G+ right now because it's a bundle of cool features that I can access. I won't like when it becomes this mandatory exposure of my public profile every time I want to do something involving Google.

First youtube started prompting people to use their real name for their channel, now they are forcing people to use their google+ account and name for reviews.

What is this obsession with linking everything to peoples names.

The majority of things I do on google and android are linked to a mostly anonymous account which only identifies me via payment options, my second personal Google account is reserved purely for personal things and work related stuff.

It's always going to be in my best interest to do things like this, as it minimises any risk of my personal opinions and online activity being brought into question by the public via my professional body and workplace, should they take offence at something inane.

Ehh... I understand the pros and cons. I don't think Google is doing it just because they want more people to use G+, I'm sure they could make it so you stayed anonymous AND had to log in with g+ to do so (maybe, at best, they're doing it to sort of encourage a G+ 'culture').

At the same time... internet anonymity is going the way of the dinosaur. It's something I am not 100% comfortable with, but figure I'll just have to embrace utterly as we march on into this interesting future.

i already do it, but i can see why it would annoy some people to attach their real name to a review. what's funny is it will hamper the normal people, but the crazy folk and those mass spammers gaming the system won't be so easily deterred.

There is nothing useful that can be written on a bathroom stall wall. 100% of what's written there is garbage. The content per se does not matter. In your metaphor, the name/photo requirement would be a good thing because it would discourage people from being shitheads.

This system also discourages people from writing reviews, the difference is that the balance of reviews are either useful or at the very least well-meaning. A very very small percentage would qualify as trash-talk. These reviews can be reviewed, dealt with, and removed without needing the person's identification--just by the account username being connected. I don't need to know your name or photo to moderate you on GAF.

Pretty important for the developers, ranking in searches etc seems to be based in some way on ratings.

Don't worry, no one actually cares what apps you use. On the flipside, why should people who put apps out have to deal with people trolling reviews sections without accountability? How could this be a net loss in quality for reviews systems overall?

It cuts down on the number of Trolls without spines. But there are trolls that don't mind being known for trolling, so thats that. I think linking popular sites to accounts is generally a good idea for communication. Its optional on Youtube, but if it was tied to facebook accounts I think it might cut down on a bit of assholetry out there. its 2012. The government already has all of your personal information, and you're not stopping it by disabling a SINGLE feature of Google which already has you in its pockets.
