Note to self- never ever question why a thread was made and do not under any circumstances beg for a megathread, especially less than a week before a console launch.
Picked up a deluxe unit Sunday, here are some early thoughts:
-Love the gamepad. Just love it. Screen, size, feel, etc.
-On similar lines, the experience of being able to play games and mess around on the controller is going to be incredibly valuable for me. I can see why people without families who have the tv to themselves find it not compelling, but for someone with a wife and kid, this setup is just perfect for me. The ability to just pick up the gamepad and start playing is awesome.
-Impressed by Miiverse. I'm wondering about the moderation and insular nature of it a bit- I've checked out communities for a lot of the launch games and its about 95% extremely positive about every game. I suspect that is a lot of early adopter enthusiasm, and I'm optimistic that in the future it will be able to weed out poor games.
-I haven't actually bought one game, besides Nintendoland which came with the system. I'm already in the doghouse for the initial purchase, so I must be judicious. I'm planning on picking up 1 game this week and maybe 1 at Christmas. I have it narrowed down to ZombiU, CoD, Darksiders 2 and AC3. Was honestly tempted to buy Batman but the impressions make it sound like complete ass. Any suggestions for those who have played those titles? Leaning towards Zombiu as the Miiverse and gaf reactions have been very positive.
-I am in this really weird position of loving the system, the controller, and its potential, without feeling like there is any must have software right now. Frankly, the reason I bought this system day 1 is so that I can play Monster Hunter the day it releases in March and be part of that gaf community. I figure there is a non-remote chance systems are still hard to come by in March, so I thought it best to just get it now. Add Monster Hunter to Pikmin and Wonderful 101, and I'm going to be playing the shit out of this thing by March.
-Nintendoland is good. Legitimately good. It doesn't hold the immediate pick up and play appeal of Wii Sports, but I think most people will get more use out of this software. I also think it could help raise awareness of Nintendo IP's with people not too familiar with them- for instance, my wife loves the Pikmin game and I could see her getting into Pikmin 3 next year.
-Biggest issue for me is the lag in the OS, which I am hoping can be fixed up eventually. Seemed faster yesterday. I understand some of the gaf negativity, but like most things gaf is full of hyperbole right now.
-I have had a few locks, mostly with Nintendoland. Annoying.
- Overall I am incredibly optimistic about the potential of the system, and I suspect it will do well.
