BLOPS 2 multiplayer: only 560 people on WiiU, 640,000 on 360.

Hmm is this thread about the Wii u numbers being low?

I thought it was about the Black Ops 2 numbers being very low overall right?

pc gaming dead again?
kb+mouse <3 :(

PC Gaming is fine. I'd say about half of the PC Gaming audience that cares about Call of Duty is sticking with the older games or have moved on to substitutes while the other half is obviously buying each new iteration. Black Ops 1 was the last PC centric Call of Duty.

The pc numbers are irrelevant. There's no proper way to track the stats. idk how many times it needs to be repeated in this thread.

This thread is now about the PC numbers lolz. How can it be that low?

PC gamers aren't much for serialized multiplayer franchises. Successful multiplayer PC titles are usually all about slow & steady sales, and a long term, stable community.

So there is a chance for me to be in the top players on the Wii-U version :p
I suck at CoD, I don't like it that much but I have friends who are only playing this so I was buying it on PS3. Now that they went 360 because of the better version I can try a different version and focus on solo.

It clearly won't be the game of the year for me but I'm just curious to try it.

only 560 people on WiiU, 640,000 on 360.

If Wii U managed to outpass 360's Blops 2 online community with only 2 days of existance against a console with 7 years of userbase it would be a lifetime achievement. Serious, I don't see the point in this comparison.

There is a proper way to track stats because all legit versions of the game are tied to Steam regardless of where you buy them.

Do you think if Activision would have released it across all platforms today instead of when they did that the numbers would have been bigger? I think the main reason there are not a bunch of people on it is because most have already purchased it and no one in their right mind would purchase it twice right?

It's tough to say; if you've been playing COD for years you may have friends on other platforms who weren't picking up a Wii U anyway that may keep you on PS3 or 360. Numbers probably still would have been better if the Wii U version hit the same time as the others, but probably not dramatically so.

I'm really curious what Activision expected from this release; hopefully they're going to do actual long-term audience judgments off the sales of next year's title.

It's simple, if WiiU had launched a week earlier, more people would have considered buying blops2. I assume the majority of the people who bought WiiU already own an xbox or ps3 and would have purchased it for those systems already.

Lets be serious, to compare the install-base of a system that is 2 days old in limited supply, to consoles that have penetration of over 100 million units is absurd.

PC gamers have other shit to play.

Also, Totilo failed to realize that BLOPS is split into multiple executables on PC; Zombies and Campaign therefore have separate stats.

(da fuck is the ValveTestApp?)
There are less players on Steam top20 online than on CODBLOPS2 on 360? Huh.

I am surprised that even these many people are playing Playstation 3 or 360 versions considering how borked I have heard the BlOps2 multiplayer is.

So much fun. I've got both the 360 and Wii U versions. I'm using the Wii U version on the gamepad when I'm in the bedroom or on the toilet(YES) and then flip back over to 360 if I'm going to be in the gameroom for extended periods.

Only weird thing was the default control scheme on Wii U was completely different than the HD Twins. Had to change the controls to classic.

Oh shit. I can change the controls on Wii U. I have the Wii U and 360 versions as well. Going to try this now!

Well...kind of expected for a game console that was only released a day ago. And exactly how many people is needed in order to reach critical mass?

I was playing Call of Duty 2 and Perfect Dark Zero on Xbox 360 launch day seven years ago and there sure as fuck were more than 560 players per title.

Let's face it, for people to start thinking of a Nintendo system as an online shooter platform is going to require a paradigm shift.

This is when PC gamers begin to realize why they're not the center of the gaming world anymore :p
(this coming from a PC-only gamer)

Really?

More like "This is when PC gamers begin to realize why they stopped playing console games as everyone and their mother is playing COD and COD only, while other games have less than 10 people in a server. I rather fire up any game that I own and still have a great group of players than being forced to play COD cause it's the new shoot/slice you up shiznit"

(this coming from multiplatform gamer)

Still pretty disappointing.

Pretty disappointing as a console gamer, not a PC gamer. I'm so glad there is PC gaming support for practically everything.

Every time I play a year or older game on PS3 or 360, there is barely anyone online. It gets frustrating when you buy the game late, and is one of the reasons why everyone buys a game day one, so that they can enjoy the "super bowl"-esque spectacle before the party is over.

Disappointed in console gamers where only a game like COD can have such number while 10+ year old PC games will still have loads of players.

I'm really digging the WiiU version. The Wiimote pointer controls are probably the best for any FPS ever made (including Move).

Messing around last night and discovered you can play the entire game with the Wiimote/Nunchuck pointing at the GamePad (instead of the TV). Not sure how practical that is, but an interesting feature nonetheless.

that is low, launch titles usually have bout 3-6 thousand, still early days but it is very low

So there are still tons of PC players who play, let's say, Assassin's Creed brotherhood?

Somehow I have my doubts.

Isn't this the start? 360 had live before it. You are just looking at Nintendo 8 years late and after 2 other competitors have had years to work on their online service. I predict all Ninty has to do is convince 500K to 1 million people to buy madden, cod and ass creed this year to be a success for 3rd parties. Not unmistakeable success or outstanding success. Just better than they were and enough to guarantee another round of yearly drivel and keep some 3rd party games coming. This entire generation could be a 'paradigm shift' if they do some things right.

Free online gaming, DD incentives, miiverse and others could be enough to push them farther than they have been.

Do we have historical data for launch titles online? I guess it would only be 7th gen that we could really compare to.

Has anyone in this thread pointed out that if BLOPS2 on consoles is anything like the previous COD games the numbers are not true currents, but instead the number of people that have played in the last 6 hours?

The numbers are odd to compare considering how new the WiiU is.. However ... we all know that even next years, even IF the next Xbox comes out, the 360 will outsell the WiiU on pretty much any multiplatform title, especially a CoD game.

We can hide behind the fact the WiiU is so new this year, but not next year. So enjoy it while you can guys.

If anyone want numbers to laugh at, check out how many people are using the in game console live streaming feature.

Not sure why that'd matter as any existing Live user would've still needed to purchase a new console (360) in order to play Call of Duty 2 and Perfect Dark Zero online. Same situation as the WiiU.

I'd argue that the barrier to entry was much higher on the 360 side since XBL is a paid subscription service ($50 per year, now $60), the 360 itself ($400) was already more expensive, and Microsoft also charged a ridiculous $100 for the WiFi adapter those first few years.

How long is it going to take for them to theoretically catch up? Or will they always be 8 years behind since Sony/Xbox will always look to improve...

You're setting expectations low. You don't expect a brand new cell phone service provider to provide talk without voicemail, data, etc.
