How the fuck does this thing not have internet connection. What if I want to download a patch for Skyward Sword?

Excluding the Canada-only part and that this doesn't have internet capabilities, I'm not interested now I guess, how much is a new GC compatible Wii going for nowadays?

No Internet? Uh... the fuck is the rationalization for that?

So what if someone picks this up thinking they can use it for Netflix too?

It says its not internet enabled.
The Wii will still be sold; this is just 'the Mini' (maybe its retail backed; hence Canada only too?) - there isn't the inputs for anything but playing games basically.

Its not aimed at people looking at online; just a cheap console for games.

Could internet connectivity options = LAN adaptor compatability?

It would be crazy to have no network functionality whatsoever -- games like Mario Kart Wii and Smash Bros Brawl are utterly dependant on it for maximum fun

It actually looks really cool, as a piece of hardware - I'm not getting the hate (aside from net connectivity if true) -- it looks like the GB Micro of consoles!

lol

Brawl dependent on online

Canada only. That seems odd. Curious to hear more.

I think I should buy one, and hope to sell it to some hXc Nintendo collector for mass monies.

at 99 dollar they could have at least thrown in wii sports or wii music or something :D since its red "new" super mario bros wii would have been perfect but okay, maybe they thought a Wii Mini + NEW SMB could be confused with a Wii U + NEW SMB ;)

That thing is an eyesore, but the 99$ threshold might be enough for me to pick one up just for Galaxy 1, Galaxy 2 and Xenoblade.

Nintendo probably wants to sell Wiis like PS2 kept selling for years. but Does anyone think Wii is a system that can do that?

I don't think it can do that, the sales already hit rock bottom unlike the PS2 at this point in it's life and Wii doesn't have the wide range of software PS2 had and even PS2 software was being made couple of years into this generation, Wii software development is already pretty much dead. Wii was already very cheap and within mass market budget for most of it's life too, I think this product is quite pointless for that. maybe if this was 2 years ago it would have worked, we'll see.

this is exclusive to Canada this year, next year it will be everywhere probably, like Wii slim was Europe only at first.

Yikes, that looks really ugly and cheap in the larger pics. That red plastic is simply awful.

I'll stick with my backwards compatible Wii.

I do find it amusing how the WiiU looks exactly like a wii, while the wii mini looks nothing like a wii.

Looks ugly seen from this angle and no Wi-Fi/Virtual Console make this a no-buy. But apparently I won't be able to buy it anyway, even if I wanted to. Lay off the PCP, Nintendo.

Well at least they won't have problems with transfering stuff bought from eshop to WiiU ;)

But seriously if i wanted to buy Wii from the shop i'd be running there to buy current one while the stocks last.

You think the average consumer will be able to distinguish that? Especially when pretty much every device out on the market now has some level of Internet functionality and its assumed too?

I have my doubts.

I love the no internet middle finger.

it's like fuck y'all, it's about putting video games in the machine and that's it... peace.

a simpler time, a simpler machine.

love it.

A thought: Assuming it has USB ports, might it be possible to get it online via ethernet USB adapter and custom firmware? If that were the case, I'd consider shelling out 99 Canadollars and import one of these.

I mean, it's probably redesigned to make CFW much harder or impossible to install, but... Homebrew. Homebrew finds a way.

THE WORDS! They'll drift away without the _!
Why would you make a console revision exclusive to Canada.

NA, EU or Japan I could maybe understand.. But just Canada makes no sense.

Code:
While the system has no Internet connectivity options or Gamecube support, it
features full functionality and compatibility with the Wii’s expansive library of over
1,300 games and its associated peripherals, totaling nearly 1 billion games sold.

This model is just about the retail games.

No internet means no nintendo channel, no shop channel, no news channel, no weather channel and definitely no everybody votes channel.

Which also means you can't play Mario Kart Wii online either [obviously].

It's almost like Nintendo wants to shut down all internet content for Wii and start again for Wii U.

No Internet? Really? Not even an Ethernet port?
Lol

Honestly though, I don't really understand this move by Nintendo. No GC is ok, but no Internet is...surprising. At least have it there for online gaming, and just remove all channels.

Aside of ugly, no internet make it basically worthless to me.

But hey, I already have a Wii, I'm not the potential user of this one I guess.
