Is Walking Dead pc saves still broke?

I tried it without the time stamp change, and the game lets me load the save but then just hangs at the 'loading' screen (black screen with in-game cursor).

I really liked this game and I'm tempted to double-dip for a console version, but I really don't feel like supporting these guys anymore.

It doesn't work without the timestamp change.

Not seeing this in my properties anywhere. I see the modified date, but I have no way to change it.

Windows 7.

I've tried multiple other fixes that "work" too, but nothing ever does.

Did you download the program in step 1? That is what adds the time stamp feature.

Here: add the second from the bottom (SKTimeStamp64-1.3.3.msi) if you are using Windows 64bit. That is the one I used and it worked fine:

Does this keep your decisions? My pref file was replaced already, sadly, but I have my saves.

Yes; it keeps everything. Just make sure to copy your save folder elsewhere before deleting it and restarting the episode you were on. Once you have a fresh save (the game will create a new save folder) copy that save's name and time stamp info over to the old save you want to use and replace the new save with your old one.

I wonder if you could fix this by creating a symbolic link between the two locations. That way, there would only be one prefs.prop file and the game would only update one file even though it would think there's still two. In theory, anyway.

Might be worth a try if I decide to risk a purchase. Threads like these inspire little confidence though.

That is what this guy's solution is, lower down.

I finally got around to starting episode 5, and lo and behold, my save from episode 4 was gone. Kinda just quit, really ruined the mood for me. Question though. When I went to start 5, it said would I like to make choices since 4 wasn't "done". How good are these choices? Is it literally just the big ones for the episode, or is it more detailed than that?

I mean, I wanted all my choices to come through. And I kinda don't want to replay 4 since I already knows what happens, so my answer won't be as organic. I liked how the episode ended. This is lame.
Okay, I had this specific (I think) problem. Basically I have finished EP4 but the game when I go into says I still haven't finished the very last section of it (even though I have, and even sat through the whole credits, and have the achievements to prove it). I played through the end again two times. Each time after it drops back to the main menu it correctly says that I had now completed EP4, however it also now said that EP5 was "coming soon". Restarting the game opens up EP5, but EP4's status goes back to unfinished/the very last savepoint before the end. When you go into your save files however it looks like every decision was still saved for me, including the ones at the end of EP4 (show the bite, who do you take with you, what you say to the stranger).

Basically if you just start EP5 and let it "auto gen" the choices it will go with the choices you made anyway... as long as you actually played through the end of EP4 and the choices were saved. It's pretty easy to check anyway just start EP5 and watch the "previously on..." and it should be the same choices you made in EP4, even though you picked "auto gen choices".

Its a shame we have to deal with all these bugs and Telltale remains totally silent and doesn't give a single shit about the people who paid. Never again.

They're broke as fuck.

I was dicking around trying to get screenshots and my saves were constantly resetting themselves back several chapters, or trying to rewind to a scene and then failing to actually load, or telling me that every chapter past 1 had 'yet to be released'. Thankfully nothing damaged my master save file that I actually finished in one runthrough with no problems, and I could just copy that out to play around with, but still annoying as shit.

Mine's still borked. If I disconnect the controller I can actually play it, though I can't see the GUI, thus unable to select any conversation choices..

I was sure this had something to do with Windows 8, which has been a catastrophe for my system.

Oh boy, I was thinking how lucky I was a week ago when I had no problems and now my save is screwed of course. I jinxed myself.

I don't know about the pc version but I started the first episode on 360 two weeks ago. I was pretty hooked, amazing game, i beat the first and the second episode, then I brought and downloaded the third, clicked on continue and the game strangely restart from the beginning... my saves got erased. :(

So on 360 the game still has this fucking problem.

You should probably spoiler-tag that bit.

Just lost my save after finishing ep 4. Had a toddler play with the computer without me knowing and just assumed he was somehow responsible but this makes a lot more sense lol. Oh well.

After multiple play through attempts ending around episode 3 due to the save game bug, I gave up and watched the rest of the game on youtube. Great Story, wish I got to play it.

Same thing happened to me but there is an easy fix to restore.
I tried this method as well and it simply resulted in the game beginning with a random camera angle without any characters on screen or an interface to mess with. Regardless of the Episode you try this with, the results are the same. It simply doesn't work for my case.

That happens if you dont match the time stamps of the most recent new save or don't use the episode you are one. Remember the name of the save doesnt necessarily mean it is the latest.

I had to fuck around with the save and prefs files for up to 30 minutes before every single episode. It was infuriating. But always worth it in the end. I just wish they would fix it. The game connects to a server to track decisions every time you play. Why can't they just sync your save game that way? Why even have two instances of the prefs file? Anything would be better than it is now. I mean, shit, I'd rather have a Mega Man password system than this.

Oh, I'm totally aware of that. I definitely used the right episode and I sorted by time stamp.

Decided to fire up the game to finish it in light of the GOTY announcement. Was in the middle of Episode 4 when I last played it, but it started me at the end of Episode 3. Weird, but no biggie - I'll just watch this final cutscene and continue on to the next episode. Nope! Keep getting kicked back to the beginning of Episode 3. On top of that, the decisions screen at the end was off. Wtf?

Let's see if I can fix this shit...

Does the XBLA version have the save issue too? I've been meaning to pick this up as I've (finally, very lttp) started watching season 1 on Netflix.

GOTY

I was semi interested in this with all the positive talk of the game but something like losing saves in a game all about decisions even if they don't matter is a pass for me until they fix this.

Sick of games getting praise by the games media that are broken. Oh it works on xbox so fuck everyone else.

I wonder why it only fucks up for some people and not for others. I played through the entire game twice (once by myself and again with a friend) and encountered no issues.

Its called a bug. These things happen. Any company that gave a damn about their customers would at least attempt a patch or give some insight into how to prevent it. These fucks have our money and its flat out disgusting that they won so many awards.

Maybe they'll finally say/do something about it now that they're getting all this recognition for the game.

...yeah right.

I bought this summer sale installed it never got it to start due to exe problem went to forums saw thread just deleted off harddrive so while i would like to play it, I'ma go with bad company

This is not Game Of The Year material. Fuck this game.

Gotta love how this won GotY and now a slew of new players are going to try it... only to be met with a crashy, buggy, savegame-eating mess!

I still love it though.

My save got fucked up somehow when I started episode 5. It didn't give me the prompt to start with randomized choices, so I assumed everything was fine. In the previously on section, a couple things struck me as odd but the big bullet points (who was alive, who killed Larry etc.) seemed to be the same so I figured I must be misremembering what I did. Then I got to the point where you meet the stationwagon guy and he starts rattling off stuff I never did. He said I didn't take the food when I know I did and convinced Clem it was ok, along with some other things that were different. Then I get to the end where it shows all the major decisions throughout the game and many were completely wrong. It really bummed me out so I went back to episode 4 to see if I could re-do it but it somehow retroactively changed my choices throughout the whole game. Pretty much ruined what was likely my goty.

It's unfortunate the PC release is so shit - technical-wise. But I will admit the game sucked me in enough to convince me to fight through the bugs - and I'm glad I did. The game was pretty amazing.

The save-bug was the worst, but the fix above (#148) had fixed it for me.

What a trainwreck this game has been for me. Bought the season pass when episode 1 first came out. Played that, lost the save when I updated to grab episode 2. Some stuff came up and I didn't have a chance to pick it back up until last month when all episodes were out.

Completely removed any semblance of the game from my computer. Started fresh with a download. Played episode 1 this morning to completion. Closed the game to grab a cup of coffee and do some chores, came back to no save game. Tried everything in this thread and around the Telltale forums, nothing worked.

Very frustrating experience and leaves me with no desire to play again.

Weird issue. I lost my decisions going into episode 2 but after that everything seemed to work ok despite the game trying to start me off on episode 2 every time. And the save has always been labeled episode 1 oddly.

So even after my save disappeared between Episode 1 and Episode 2, I decided to give this game another chance.

I double click it in Steam, get a loading circle for a second or two, and nothing...

It won't load at all.

Does this game work on Windows 8?
