This is just incredibly disappointing. Everything about Halo 4 and its support seems so sloppy. I only had a bit of time this morning to play the maps, guess I'm not playing them until the 15th. Or if I want to take a study break I guess I might play before then.

Thanks Obama.

OT, but I was searching for the thanks obama cheetos gif, but I came across this:

So the map pack pass I downloaded doesn't have any code behind it, that's lame. Hopefully it's a problem they can fix without having to send us all emails.

We should play the new maps tonight, provided 343 allows me to download them today.

It takes a lot to get me to play this game these days. If it wasn't for a few IRL friends and the league that I'm in with Aggro I wouldn't play the game at all. It was fun for two weeks, then the novelty wore off.

Guys, it's not like the season pass is invalid. It's temporary unavailible. No biggy. Have same patience. You won't die from having the maps a day later.

Yeah, and there are people starving all over the world. Nuclear proliferation still threatens humanity etc. etc. etc. Nobody is saying this is the worst thing to ever happen to them in their whole lives. We are customers who want to be treated fairly. That's it. Stop defending shitty business decisions/practices and ineptitude.

I can't download the maps for an hour and a half anyway - so can't say the dlc issues affect me - hopefully they learn from this and these issues don't arise next time round.

I do feel for the people that wanted to get games in during the last few hours but 6 or so hours isn't a terrible timeframe.

The reactions to this map pass issue seem a bit hyperbolic. Yeah sure it sucks that you can't play immediately the moment the maps were released (and it's been something like 7 hours?), but implying 343 is shitting on customers and is completely terrible just because this problem occurred is extreme. I hate plenty of things about this game, and I find many of the decisions surrounding it to be straight up terrible, but they're not locking people out of dlc and saying "too bad, fuck off."

Of course, my mood might change once bing emails me 200 msft points and I try to download the maps. Every cares more about their personal experience above all else :)

Every time something like this happens, everything is terrible until everything is awesome. I still remember the Crackdown Halo 3 beta issue, we blew through a couple thousand posts of rage before it was suddenly all roses. It would be good if MS figured this stuff out (it seems to happen often) but in the end, they always do and usually pretty fast. Just be patient. No one will remember those few hours when it was delayed.

How is saying "be patient, it's not the end of the world" defending shitty business practices?

All he's saying is the reaction here is overblown - he wasn't even TOUCHING whether the situation was defensible or not!

It's frustrating, yes. I'm affected, personally (I have the season pass, can't download maps). I think it's dumb that this far into Xbox LIVE's lifespan (and the sale of season passes) that this problem hasn't been solved.

BUT IT'S NOT THE END OF THE WORLD. It's certainly not worth the hand-wringing and nasty comments that this thread has displayed.

I still remember the Crackdown Halo 3 beta issue,

Thank the lord for my F&F invite for H3

I manage to sneak in early on that beta one of my favourite gaming moments I was playing with a lot of MS People during that period I felt
Special.

Sadly because I was an AOL customer at the time I couldn't connect to the beta about 10 days in which really fucking sucked.

Gears 3 had the same issues. MS doesn't know how to properly handle season passes I guess.
This is the real problem. Why can't MS get this shit right?

They've had Gears 3, Forza 4 and Forza Horizon. Why is this *STILL* an issue? And why does LIVE conveniently experience troubles around the same time too?

considering the amount of customers that are effected by this issue, it's hardly "personal"
That's not the point I was making. I was saying my feelings on the issue are probably biased by the fact that I'm not currently trying to play the maps, therefore I'm not in rage mode. The people trying to play who can't are angry. Personal effect plays a large role here, it was an observation.

Hey guys check this out.

You ready for this?

Both games look great and have stellar art direction. Both games have their visual strengths and weaknesses. Crazy, I know.

HOLY SHIT!

This map pack situation is pretty shitty.

Told you guys there was no in-game store, clearly I foresaw this.

Back to BF3, where I just go the in-game store and DL my expansions for free with no issues.

that's bad news about the framerate issues on wreckage.

if it happens in fullscreen, then I'd hate to imagine what it'd be like in splitscreen.

half the standard maps already run like shit in splitscreen, I have to go play reach when the gf wants to play too.

framerate and pop in issues (don't use "impressive visuals out of old hardware" excuse, how hard would it be to tone down the lighting a bit for better performance in a competitive online environment) along with reticules not being scaled down, tiny unreadable killfeed and medals, awkward scrolling of scoreboard, etc. it's obvious splitscreen was just an afterthought for 343i.

Been seriously hooked on BF3 recently. Halo 4 will have to wait.

I don't think it's lighting I think the strain on the engine is textures. Adding in crazy lighting and gun fire and Spartans and vehicles and damage and explosions and all that stuff is going to cause issues but I think it's the Textures that impact performance the most. If you scope in across even 2 3rds of exile with a sniper you can see the basic untextured BSP

Also I think something to remember is that our ire may be misdirected at 343 and most of the blame should be on Xbox.

True dat. Harmonix has released what, like 4,000 songs for Rock Band? There's still weeks where songs are mislabeled, don't show up, or are glitched. Shit happens.

I played BF3 last night for the first time in months. I put way too many hours into that game for the "1.6 million" tournament that never happened.

It's still as fun as remembered.

That's damn right. And shit's going to keep happening, and happening, and happening, spanning the entire existence of DLC launches until the end of time. DLC launches are seriously one of the most difficult tasks to accomplish in modern computing and all these people, these entitled, sniveling, petulant manchildren need to get it through their heads that their videogame maps can wait 12 hours.

Is this true. Jesus

Most recent one was a couple of weeks ago with a singles week. If you bought Closer by Nine Inch Nails right when it went up on Xbox, you actually got The Weight by The Band.

Their fix this time was to pull the Closer offer and just add Closer to the glitched offer's data, so everyone who bought it got two songs. Then put up a fixed Closer single later in the day.

Iv always wondered about that game I wonder if someone owns all the dlc

Wow, this is mind boggling. I wonder how MS is planning on updating the APIs and infrastructure for nextbox.

No so difficult on pc because they can easily manipulate and change all the data, it is worse on consoles because they cant change the original data of the disc unless they make the user redownload all the maps with the important changes and microsoft charge them for the updates and patchs too (on xbox of course dont know if sony charges them for updates too).

There a few people that own all of Rock Band's DLC. I'm up to 915 songs myself.

They can only load all the DLC at once via Blitz though. Rock Band 3 is capped at loading 3,000 songs at once due to RAM limits. Blitz can load somewhere around 6,000 apparently (it tracks less information). Looks like the current count is 4,102. They've still been releasing weekly DLC since November 2007

Both Sony and MS charge for updates. Nintendo is the only one that lets you submit DLC and patches for "free" currently.

Considering that it's very likely that the next Xbox shares its kernel with Windows 8 and WP8, its essentially a guarantee that this stuff will change.

Not to mention that MS basically played catch up against themselves with the 360, as downloadable games, DLC, and media blew up faster than they or anyone else could have hoped for and they had to continuously find a way to try to modify their existing infrastructure/system in order to keep up.

Harmonix is fucking incredible.

Yup.

More evidence we need next gen so badly right now, look how many devs the existing infrastructure has killed and what it's done to companies like Capcom's reputation.

To be honest I'd be complaining more if the maps actually looked good, and there were smaller maps for 4v4. With this map pack, I would not really care even if this took a week to resolve.

I really hope Sony and MS move to a more open and develop friendly infrastructure next gen. Although there are definitely draw backs associated with it, it seems so many devs are obstructed by the closed nature of the platform.
