The Half-Life games are amazing the first time through, but I can't bring myself to replay them ever again.

I liked 1 until Xen or was it Zen. I can't remember. Been so long since I played it. The second one though god. It's so boring. I managed to make it half-way through it. I think whoever said it comes off more like a physics demo is right. It's just not my cup of tea at all. I keep saying I'm going to go back to finish it and just honestly have no desire too.

Thank you. Half-Life 2 by and away blows Halo out of the water in a "most overrated FPS" contest. I've never played Half-Life, and I've heard good things about it, so I don't knock the entire series, but despite doing some very interesting things with narrative presentation Half-Life 2 is a trainwreck of a game. Gunplay isn't that interesting, physics and platforming puzzles are tedious and despite some really interesting worldbuilding... the plot never goes anywhere very interesting. Gordon Freeman is by far the worst silent protagonist ever, beating the Rookie handily.

I should add a caveat to what I said. Half-Life 2's gameplay gets a lot better as the series progresses, and in fact gets very Halo-like in Episode 2 with fights like the antlion encounter at the start of "Freeman Pontifex" and the battle in the house with the Hunters and Combine soldiers in "Under the Radar."

Arguably Half-Life 2's greatest strength is its world building.

is there any clarification on how fast track works? do i get bonus points based for how long i have the mod on for? or does it just have to be on at the end of the match?
You only get the fast track XP if it's on for the entire game IIRC. You can have multiple loadouts with fast track and if you switch between them it won't affect that though.

I really, really hated a lot of Half Life 2, especially the vehicle crap.

I replayed the first one a lot, but i was younger. The second one I wouldn't play again because I didn't like the gameplay much. The story is great though.

Don't really see how a quit ban and JIP can logically coexist.

The very idea that games are meant to be joined during a match condones the idea of leaving before the end of one. It's a vicious circle that should never have been entertained in the first place. I've got no problem with quit bans, in fact I welcome them, but including them alongside JIP just seems like yet another example of muddled design from 343, where instead of making a clear design decision either way they pandered to both parties and in effect served none.

The sweet spot would be a social round of playlists that incorporated JIP, and a ranked, competitive round of playlists that locked players into a game, and punished them for breaking that. Of course that seems too obvious, and is actually something that's kind of already existed in Halo, so thus it must be thrown out and under a bus in the essence of change.

Unfortunately supposedly the new COD has this too, and it just doesn't make sense. I've not encountered it yet though, and I always quit out of games with stacked teams or lag.

It does, although I don't think it works correctly. I've gotten multiple quit bans (they're like 1 minute bans though) for leaving a lobby post-game.

The quit ban seems fair to me. Though it depends on the amount of games quit. Anyone know?

I think if you quit more then 10 games in a day you deserve a 1 hour penalty.

None of the Bungie legends worked on Reach, they were working on Destiny.
Mr. O'Donnell did. :)

Halo 4 WILL go the Gears of War 3 route.
While I sadly agree with your post, what does this part mean?

-EDIT-

Gears 3 was dead about 4 months after its' release.

I've BEEN saying this! Glad you're finally seeing the light.

A shell of what the other games were (because of shit added that doesn't belong), abandoned by a lot of the population and a herald of where the game is going (in the shitter see GOW: Judgement).

Damn.. Funny part is that I always have this convo with a friend about Gears games:

Friend: "Can't wait for the next Gears!"
Me: "Hell yeh! That month is gonna be fun."

lol We know we don't play Gears game for much longer than that cuz it gets too blehh.. Love the shit out of them though, but they should've kept that 5-rank ranking system before they made it XP based in Gears 2, among other things.

I mean this in the nicest way but they always to get a good idea and half ass it or execute it in the worst possible fashion.

  • Hate JIP? Quit ban.
  • More maps? All Big Team Battle
  • Want 1-50? Well here's a XP system with those number
  • Hate quitters? Join In Progress
  • Like to create content? File shares don't work
  • Too many playlist? Here's a gimped version
  • Firefight get repetitive? Spartan Ops Button Quest
  • Community feedback? Truck.

They get so close, but somehow it always manages to be screwed up. I used to think maybe I was just a overzealous assclown that put everything under a microscope. Reading more and playing I don't think I'm insane anymore. Maybe I should just go back to bed.

Gears Of War community was never that "big". Hell, GoW2 was dead pretty fast too.

About Destiny? Reach was a bad Halo game but I had more fun with Reach than I had with tons of games who got scores of 90+. I am looking forward to it. The concept seems interesting. And it is Jason Jones' baby.

19 million units sold is pretty big, considering Halo been out twice as long with twice the games too at 40 million+ sold.

Did well after release too on XBL

On a more positive note, Light Rifle plus Stability is damn awesome.
That is the reason for my specialization choice. Hoping to be a Light Rifle king once I get the perk.

Jason and Staten didn't work on Reach (Jason was credited for Halo 3 either). Other than that, I don't know of any major long-term Bungie employees that didn't work on Reach.

When Jason works on a game though, I'd bet my bottom dollar that it's going to be awesome.

Gears usually drops off the charts pretty quickly. The franchise simply doesn't have a large online community compared to CoD, Halo, Battlefield, etc. After Christmas the numbers level off and then steadily drop.

Gears 2 held steady on a charts for a shockingly long time considering the game was 100% broken online. Gears 3 free fell very quickly for some reason.

ha, at least it's bungie making destiny, not 343

Can we stop it with comments like this? Criticism of Halo 4 is fine, but these snide remarks about 343 and the people that work there are getting out of hand. It makes for very cringe-worthy, and unpleasant, reading.

Gears 3 fell when everyone realized they scammed everyone with their dedicated server promise. It was deserved.

I guess the analogy people are trying to make with Halo 4 is the broken and slow JiP?

Well that and the amount of shit related to DLC I think turned many off too. Epic kind of burned themselves thanks to the combination of both of those things.

HaloGAF, tell me why Bungie.net stats are better than Waypoint stats.

Yeah I guess that's true. I stopped playing prior to that going down.

Literally every reason you could imagine.

Gears 3 was awesome.

However, it didn't have much lasting power online, even though I bought the Season Pass.

Given that 343 definitely made all of Halo 4, I'd appreciate if we could think of their collective feelings before making a sarcastic comment about the game here in the Halo/Ford Truck/pornography OT.
