As big a Bungie fan as I am I don't think it will. Most people just don't try something new most of the time. It really depends on how well Activision markets it. If they go all out it could but if they don't then it will probably bomb. Either way I'll be there day 1. Bungie has never made a game I hate. Never. So I know I'm going to love Destiny.

Why would we? Halo 4 is a solid game and a lot of fun to play. I could give a shit about the numbers as long as they stay high enough for me to find games. With the patches that 343 noted are coming the game should get better as time goes on.

I'm in the Heckfu camp on this one.

Also, believe it or not, a lot of users are not enthused with Bungie like everyone here is. A lot of people felt Bungie let Halo go stale on their watch. Maybe 343's version isn't what they wanted either, but the game needed a change. So I'm not so sure people will just jump right into Destiny.

I can't wait to see more of it though.

Agreed. In fact, I remember at the Neogaf general outrage when Halo3 was discovered to be sub 720p. And the outrage of not having AA due to the lighting engine. I remember that the general opinion was that, being such an important franchise for the 360, an exlusive and a first party title, it was considered by many to be a total let down.

Some people acts like the lower number of players is a direct result of AA or weapon spawns, but the fact is that Halo3 wasn't that popular the moment COD4 hit the market.

I don't think Reach ever had the vitriol that Halo 4 has gotten. Maybe towards the end of it's run but certainly not in the beginning months. Granted this is going based off of HaloGaf which is a small sample size but one that been super passionate about the Halo franchise for a very long time.

All of them want Destiny to be awesome, but aren't ready to throw in their 100% support yet. Bungie (outside of Halo) is vastly unproven. We have no idea if they can make a game that's a big as the Halo series, that's not the Halo series.

Biggest gripe about this game is still the lack of customizability on the game-type front. Had a LAN today, played one hour of Halo 4, got bored of 300% Thruster pack, played reach for a few hours, then ended up playing Infection on Sandtrap, Halo 3...

All of them want Destiny to be awesome, but aren't ready to throw in their 100% support yet. Bungie (outside of Halo) is vastly unproven. We have no idea if they can make a game that's a big as the Halo series, that's not the Halo series.

I think a reason 4 has gotten such a harsh backlash is many fans were hoping that Reach was a simple aberration. It was a non numbered sequel and could even be thought of as a spinoff game. So many of the faults could be glossed over if you assumed that Halo 4 would redeem the series and bring back the arena shooter.

If that's what you were expecting then your dreams were crushed when Halo 4 launched. Even the pre-launch hype machine showed Halo 4 to be a pure arena shooter, with BR starts, no Armor Abilities, etc. (see Conan footage). Instead 4 turned out to be an evolutionary step beyond what Reach was... and in many fans minds this was the wrong direction for the franchise to continue (and I would argue the player count confirms this).

Ignoring HaloGAF and looking at general GAF & the gaming press: The reaction to the leaked Destiny concept art really surpised me.
I saw bounds of unexpected positivity of people chattering excitedly about a few pieces of concept art, never mind the game itself.

Also, Marathon and Myth. (Not sure if Pathways etc were particularly big in their day)

Don't get the wrong impression, Bungie has done some amazing work on the Halo series (and in tech like matchmaking systems, they basically built Xbox Live). My point is in a new franchise, a new world, new plot, and a new massively multiplayer FPS market. I have 100% faith in their systems, it's more if they can replicate Halo's success with the new universe they are building.
