GAF Secret Santa 2012

My TT recieved his package. I am soooo happy it made it. It got there in 7 days. Perfect timing. I'm really really glad it made it safe hehehe

Still waiting for mine but who cares, my TT got his ^_^

Same here.

Last year, my TT never popped in the thread after they joined in. I never got confirmation he got my gift and I never got anything saying otherwise.

Sadness, most of the fun is seeing your person happy at their gifts! I'm not usually one for excluding people for mistakes, but in the future I agree this should be a blacklistable offense. If you receive a gift a don't post about it that is.

That's really harsh, but I'm not in charge anymore, so whatever.

I think it would be fine so long as they PM echo or Nic (or whomever runs this thing next yr)

But if they're just silent? maybe they deserve some kind of reprimand

I know it is harsh, maybe at least a prohibition or something?

Bit it's still not very fair to your Secret Santa to never even let them know if you got the gift, let alone if you liked it. If you want it to be private that's fine, but you can at least shoot your SS a courtesy PM and a thank you note of some sort. It just defeats the purpose of a Secret Santa if you never find out what your person thought!

It may sound harsh, but posting on here is equivalent to saying thank you for the gift. Not hearing anything comes off as ungrateful, takes a lot of the fun out of secret santa, but perhaps I'm too sensitive.

Not harsh at all. It takes less than a minute to come on here and post something. People spend more time than that trying to think of some funny troll response.

Exactly, I already know a few people that probably won't be participating again if they don't hear anything from their tiny Tim. I'm lucky enough that my tt already received my gift (posted that he has a few pages ago so you can add him to the list). Why even bother participating if you aren't going to take the time to make a post saying you received the gift.

I don't know why you wouldn't post when you got it at least anyway. It literally takes less than a minute. Photos take slightly longer, sure, but still!

I'm excited and can't wait for my TT to respond with photos of what they got! :D

Details will be made available soon regarding blacklist-able offenses. It's very important to be involved with the community on these sorts of things. Harsh, maybe. But it's not fair to do something like this and expect silence to go unnoticed. We all enjoy this experience and participate together. It's supposed to be a fun, community driven event. :)

We're just talking about commenting on when you send/receive a gift right? It seems a bit silly to expect people to also post multiple times about their anticipation or something. I still haven't received mine but I will, of course, post when I do.

Correct. As it stands, most people don't even know whether their gift is coming, nor do they know if their TT even got their gift.

I thought one of the rules was that you were supposed to PM nicoga3000 or echoshifting when your gift was sent so that they could at least inform your TT that your gift is on the way.

To be fair, I just read about that rule in the OP.

Yup! Just a simple courtesy note or post or reply of some sort to let the person know you received it. Pictures and joy optional :P

To be fair, I just read about that rule in the OP.

Honestly it shouldn't even needed to be a spoken rule, just common courtesy. Not trying to point you out or anything, I just wouldnt be surprised if a few people will use that as reasoning if they eventually get blacklisted.

As I understand it, the gift wrapping for my gift was opened at customs, so I'm going to ask my wife to re-wrap them for me so that I can open them properly...

Why would you?

I completely agree on the common courtesy thing.

Added a few more to the OP. Glad to see things coming together.

And yes, it is expected that you post something here regarding you having received your gift. As I wrote earlier on my phone (sorry if it was any bit incomprehensible), it's very important that this experience be community driven. I think it was made very clear from the beginning that you were expected to post what you received once you received it. It was also made clear that you were to PM one of us with details regarding your shipment.

The rules have been a bit more relaxed regarding shipping details. I get that folks forget that. It's even MORE forgivable considering some folks never sent myself or echoshifting shipping details, but their TT received his/her gift early/on time.

What we cannot be relaxed about, however, is notification of receiving your gift. The purpose of a black list is to prevent folks from getting burned in one way or another. Not receiving a gift is bad, yes. But if I send something to someone, I want confirmation that he or she received it. I don't care if they hate my gift, but at least they got it and received SOMETHING - they know that the GAF Secret Santa is a reputable and [somewhat] enjoyable experience.

The rules for black listing are simple.

The Black List

Lasts for one year. You will be allowed to participate in 2014 if you are black listed for 2013.

As a Secret Santa
In order to prevent black listing, PM myself or echoshifting details regarding your shipment. If you have proof that you shipped, we can only assume that your TT not receiving their gift is the fault of the shipping provider and NOT you. A+

As a Tiny Tim
You are required to post confirmation regarding gift receipt. Pictures are a plus. If, however, there are some extreme circumstances that prevent you from posting (banning/post count/etc?), you can PM myself or echoshifting. Or, if banned, you can have a friend PM one of us.

Black List Details and Examples

1. SS provides shipping details, TT receives gift and posts pictures and comments in the thread. Good on SS and TT. No harm, no foul! GAF Secret Santa 2013, here we come!

2. SS sends gift but does not have any shipping details, TT never receives gift and PM's myself or echoshifting/posts in thread. Unless the SS can show shipping confirmation, they will be black listed for 2013. Super Secret Santa Fund will be used to try and send a gift to TT.

3. SS sends gift with shipping details, TT receives but never confirms receipt. In this case, the TT will be placed on the Black List for 2013. While they may have sent a gift and done everything else right, not confirming receipt of gift breaks a major rule. No excuses.

4. SS sends gift with shipping details, TT never receives gift. This is a no harm, no foul case. The TT will be provided for via the Super Secret Santa Fund and both will be welcome to participate in 2013.

I hope this clears up any questions. Ask questions as need be.

Based on my TT's posting he is an extremely busy guy. I hope he has time to post pics as each present was painstakingly wrapped (not by me)!

Thanks RobertM! Got your package on Monday, sorry it took a few days for me to post. Really neat things and I am very appreciative. Cookies were good too. My daughter almost shattered the mug, though. Lucky I have good reflexes. Never read the graphic novel you sent so I will get around to that during my upcoming 2 week vacation. Thanks again!

Blacklisting for not posting receipt of the gift is pretty harsh. Maybe a grace period where they can be queried by PM, and if they don't respond to that then they get blacklisted?

I'm posting the shit out of whatever I get so it won't matter to me, but it's entirely possible many participants haven't been following this thread since signing up.

They have until a date I haven't posted. If they don't send it by that date, they deserve to be black listed, haha. Believe me, there is adequate time.

Sorry been busy but I have received my gift in the mail. Thank you SS! I'll open it on xmas eve.

It looks as mine reached its destination too : )

I posted a few pages ago that I got mine, but I'll post again since it may have been lost. Not opening until Christmas day, though!

And I've seen my TT say that he got his present, too, so I'm set on both ends.

Those rules! I better update here. I've received a package that I cannot recall ordering from amazon and will therefore await that fat bastard to slink down my chimney before I open.

As for my TT, gifts have been sent.

Kiss my ass blacklist!

Someone PMedme yesterday with:

I'm not trying to spoil anything for you, but I have it on good authority you will not be burned this year :P

Feeling hopeful now :D

Agree on unwrapping pics staying in this thread.. Though I just wished I personalised my TT a bit better, I literally threw it in the post because I got the date wrong and thought that it was the week before Xmas 2 weeks ago!
(I'll send over a eCard on Christmas Day :))

The card I included for my TT has cover artwork drawn by one of the students I work with in a developmentally delayed high school class. When he heard I was doing this, he wanted to help out with the gift.

I'm going to my parents for the holidays so i just opened the gift with my gf. And i have to say we are pretty clueless.. Does anyone happen to know what this is?

I did some Googling.
Jongsarat

The designs too have also survived many centuries. The most well-known and famous is the Jongsarat. It is generally acknowledged to be the design that above all others reflects the skill, artistic beauty and fine workmanship in which a quality cloth possesses.

It is well-known in this region because more people see Jongsarat being used than any other design. It is worn on royal and state occassions, worn by brides and grooms for marriage ceremonies and is also sometimes used as elaborate and decorative wall coverings. Such is the high regard people in this region hold for the Jongsarat that is also given to visiting foreign dignitaries as souvenirs. Of course there are many other designs. The Kain Bertabur, Sipugut, Sukmaindera, Silubang Bangsi and Arab Gagati are but a few of the many examples of patterned cloth available today in Brunei Darussalam.
Brunei is a sovereign state on the island Borneo. Apparently those cloths can sometimes be pretty valuable, but I don't really know anything about any of it so I'll just wait for your SS or something. That's pretty cool though.

List is growing quite large, so good on everyone for posting and PM'ing. Thank you all!

Sorry if the Black List idea is a bit harsh, but I'm only looking out for EVERYONE participating. :)

Also, I went through some PM's and combed the thread again. But if I missed you, please let me know!

just grabbed today's mail, still nothing on my end. I suppose only 3 mailing days left, Fri, Sat, and Mon? Do they deliver mail on Xmas Eve?

Nothing delivered to me quite yet... I'm pretty patient, so it's cool, but I just hope that the storm doesn't screw anything up with delivery ;-(

Hey! I'm not on the list, so I guess you missed me. I don't want my SS to be blacklisted for nothing, so here it is again. This is a copy/paste of my post from last month :

I got my present! But I opened it by mistake! :(

I was waiting for a bunch of stuff I ordered off Amazon (including one of the gifts for my TT), so when this package from amazon showed up, I opened it. There was no gift wrapping or anything, so I saw part of what's inside. As soon as I realised what it was, I closed the package and put some tape back on. I only caught a glimpse of some of what is in the package (
it's awesome
). I'll open it properly on Christmas, and I'll take a few unboxing pictures!

Anyway, I finally have everything I wanted for my TT, so I'll be shiping it this week.

Also, I don't see my TT on the list either and that makes me a liitle anxious. I sent my package a little over two weeks ago, and it was supposed to take 10 days. I have shipping proof (receipt) if needed, and I really hope everything will work out. Please PM me if needed, nicoga3000

Edit: Wait, I'm on the list now. Did you just add me in a matter of seconds or was I blind the whole time?
