Lol, I imagine you continuing to go back and edit this post over and over until it becomes ridiculous and eventually nonsensical.

I hope all of your GIFs from now until the end of time are NBA JAM related.

Moving goalposts is a popular argument tactic on GAF.

Should have all had a bundled game. That was a smart move for the Wii in the US and PAL territories.
Iwata testified to that extent at an investors meeting during E3.
lol.
The gamepad, duh. That thing is half the cost of the system.
You can apparently get a 7" Android tablet for £50; so I really can't see this.
Very pleasant. All we have to go on as of now are launch ports. Did anything of the caliber of Uncharted 2 or 3, Killzone 2 or 3, Gears, or Halo 4 show up on the platforms this early?
Expecting the same degree of learning curve from the Wii U as from the transition from PS2-XBOX to PS360 is setting oneself up for disappointment..
I dunno, it remains to be seen. I remain hopeful and actually expect to see visuals on par with the Bird and Zelda tech demos by year two of the console's lifespan.
So PS360 level visuals by year two.

Have you played it?!? It's brilliant. I took back Mario and found ZombiU pretty boring, But Nitnendoland? Awesome.

Pretty sure you haven't played it.

That doesn't matter. No minigame collection with mii graphics can justify a $60 price tag. That's just nickel and diming the customer.

80 dollars is still expensive for a system that "should" sell for $150. I mean I doubt the Wii U's system itself cost 70 dollars.

Or am I not understanding where you're getting at?

How much would you price it?

I would personally price it at 40. 60 is really too much but then again I'm never a fan of paying 60 for games so my answer is probably useless.

$30 at most. Not everything can or should be full price, that's something we've all been complaining about this generation with games that have more content and higher budgets than a minigame collection. I'll say the same thing about Sly 4 coming out soon, it should be $40 on PS3.

Back on topic of marketing; I think NOA's TV advertising has been atrocious and a pretty much invisible product launch campaign. Even the original DS launch was better and more "buzz-worthy" than the Wii U efforts. Nintendo should beg Leo Burnett to take them back on as a client.

Yeah I'm baffled by why there's no aggressive marketing blitz. Night and day difference between how they advertise the Wii and Wii U. Wii ads were everywhere.

I have gotten more fun and content out of Nintendoland than what you think is worth $60. And I bought the basic bundle so I had to pay full price for it.

You dismiss them as minigames, but theyre really not. Balloon Trip could be released standalone no problem, and as far as budget concerns, this game has been in the works for like 2 years, it does not have a small budget. Its gorgeous, it has great music, its really deep and has a lot of brilliant game design ... what about it isnt worth $60?

$80 retail means it probably costs less than half that to make. At $150 Nintendo would likely break even in at worst.

another quality wario thread, eh

have you played it? it's actually really fun

is "have you played it?" the ultimate defense force special attack?

now the debate is...."you think they are mini games, but they are full games to me!"?

I'm not exactly getting an unbiased vibe from your basic bundle full price purchase impressions. Needless to say I disagree but going into why isn't healthy for sanity in Wii-U gaf topics.

I dunno, I really doubt the system is really that cheap to build. Didn't Nintendo say they're selling at a loss here?

Man, I really like the Wii U. I don't care what anybody says, the console is just dang cool. Even if you're just kicking around in Miiverse, the console is a lot of fun to play with. The games will come, and the bumpy start will be long forgotten.

That said, my brother gave one to his kids for Christmas and it was bricked out of the box. :/

Nintendo seperated the two SKU's too much. Storage differences or bundles are ok, but color being tied to it and all those other extras. Not surprising that the standard isn't selling too well.

Yep. The Basic being white is the biggest knock against it for me. White electronics are ugly.

Companies ALWAYS say that to make you think you're getting a deal. No one wants to admit they sell something at a profit.
AND those costs don't just include manufacturing, but also long-term R&D to invent it.
The numbers are always cooked.

So are glossy fingerprint magnets, at least to me.

Only glossy system I had was my 60GB PS3. I never saw any fingerprints on it unless I took it outside in sun light. The system sitting in my HDTV stand with me sitting on my couch while using it, I never saw fingerprints. But when I had a white 360? No fingerprints. Just an ugly white eyesore in an all black entertainment setup that could be seen even with the lights dimmed.

Besides, the systems are only messed with when cleaning any dust away.

But didn't Nintendo actually say they're selling at a loss here though?

I think Reggie said that and he says a lot of bullshit. Nintendo didn't base retail pricing off how much the units cost to make, they claim its a secret. Instead they said price is base off what consumers would find as a deal. The same bullshit they pulled with 3DS.

They most likely overpriced it hoping to milk consumers based off the wii name. It would also give them room for a larger price drop if need be when the next gen consoles arrive. Too bad for them their strategy backfired.

Hasn't Nintendo claimed they made profits off of their systems up until that 3DS price cut though?

Good point, as much as I don't actually hate Reggie... he does say really dumb stuff sometimes.

I can't say much about this but I suppose that's a possibility.

Too bad for them their strategy backfired.
Their marketing in the west has been so abysmal lately.

I'm shocked at the lack of advertising for the WiiU. I've watched a fat chunk of tv during the last week (tons of xmas, family stuff) and never saw a commercial for it. Maybe they think word of mouth and internet buzz will do the job.

They totally screwed up pre and post launch marketing. It's pretty embarrassing, really.

Well, if the nextgen brings Planetside 2 type persistent multiplayer gaming and world maps, then I'll eat my hat... :p

I'm not against an increase in graphical fidelity or better specs. I just don't want publishers to continue to consolidate products and release the same old games over and over. Which I think is a plausible reality, at least for some pubs/franchises.

Planetside 2 has already been tease to being brought to the PS4.

While two ads aren't shoved down your throat every commercial break like apple products you are bound to see a wiiu ad every 30 minutes. Sure the ads are terrible(wub, wub, wub) and they should be slightly more clear that its a new system but i think the main problem is no one wants one. There's nothing there to interest casual consumers and the hardcore know better. That's why wiiu made pretty much no holiday lists, it's not appealing to anyone at the moment.

The loss is per hardware unit, no r&d or ad costs involved there. Iwata said that during an investors meeting. You're not allowed to lie during those, by law. So yes, the console is being sold at a loss. That's not up for debate so I would suggest people move away from that useless topic along with ludicrous statements like "it should be 150" while there isn't even a 7th generation console outside the original Wii at that price.

Doesn't help that people really thinks the Wii U is just an add-on for the Wii.
