Disagrees with you.

Yep, Life is incredibly underrated. It's up there with Coming To America and Trading Places as Eddie's best movies, though Life is actually much more serious than the other 2.

Fantastic movie. I loved some of the music they used. The Kings motorcade music was epic, but not on the soundtrack IIRC. Nor was the opening music theme to the movie. Such a shame that those tracks weren't put on the soundtrack.

Love love love this movie. Probably my favourite comedy of all time, it's gold through and through.

Edit: Thought all best quotes were already posted, but just remembered "When you think of garbage, think of Akeem!"

Just watched this on Netflix a few weeks ago. Probably my 30th time seeing it.

I still remember seeing it in the theater. Fucking non-stop laughter. They just don't make movies like this anymore. /get off my lawn

Trading Places has more nostalgic value for me so I like it more, but CTA is an absolute classic. As was mentioned the tie-in to Trading Places was brilliant.

Just let your soul glo.

Eddie and Arsenio went on to make Harlem Nights, which was funny, but not nearly as memorable. I guess they just couldn't recapture that magic. I think Harlem nights was directed by Eddie. Some great lines in that film too though. Arsenio sucked in it though, he was more annoying than funny.
Delia Reese and Red Fox stole the show.

You make me wanna rewatch this as soon as possible, because I haven't watched it in so long that it might feel like the first time again.

One of the BME (Best Movies Ever). I absolutely love this film. Seen it quite a few times already. First time in the 1980s.

Watched CTA again a while ago and made a couple of reaction GIFs. First one turned out rather wonderfully, if I may say so myself.

Any time I hear the name Randy I think of Mr. Randy, Wattttttson.

Also loved the scene about McDonalds suing Mr. McDowell. "They've got the Big Mac.. I've got the Big Mick. We both got two all beef patties, sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles and onions. But they use a sesame seed bun. My buns have no seeds."

i love coming to america so much.

BUT....for me it marks the beginning of eddie murphy's movies-i-can't-stand trope of him playing multiple characters. At least he didn't bang himself in this movie.

I have a group of friends who have used quotes from this movie in our vernacular for over 20 years.

I wish any of my friends/family knew the movie enough for that. One of my favorite quotes to use from any movie is the "he good!" part from the Sexual Chocolate scene but no one has any idea wtf I am talking about.

seeing as how it hasnt been said, hakeem and simba have the same parents.

Think its a Wendys now (Queens, NY), not too far away from where my sis lives.

It was actually a Wendy's the entire time. My mother used to take me there when I was a kid. Then over a period of what felt like months (might have been weeks), I remember it was closed off. I had no idea why. Turned out it was to film Coming to America. When they re-opened to the public, they had (and may still have) photos of the crew hanging on the walls.

When Coming to America came out, I watched it in the theater across the street from that Wendy's. The crowd was so excited to see familiar parts of Queens all over the place.

A-Ha!

There are some great quotable lines from this movie. Couldn't find the video of the Darth Vader - Coming to America mash up but it's good.

"Yeah, I met Dr. Martin Luther King in 1962 in Memphis, Tennessee. I walkin' down the street minding my own business, just walking on. Feelin' good. I walk around the corner, a man walk up, hit me in my chest, right. I fall on the ground, right. And I look up and it's Dr. Martin Luther King. I said 'Dr. King?' and he said 'Ooops, I thought you were some body else.' "

I don't know why, but the older I get, the funnier the above becomes to me.
