From the rough specs it seems that PS3 is a more.. specialised console. Fast CPU, Fast RAM, presumably fast GPU. Durango seems like an overall good console.
Okay, the PS4 is finally Dennis-approved. Production is a go!PS4 with 4GB of GDDR5 would be the God console.
I like the Orbis specs better than the Durango specs and think the PS4 will produce some insane looking exclusive games. Naughty Dog...............
If 4GB that is....
Could mods finally make it unto PS4/Xbox 720?
GDDR5 the one used in PC GPUs.4GB of possibly unified DDR5 pool!? What madness am I reading? Here's hoping to it being true.
Lol, I forgot to put the "G" in there. Still, I'd be pleasantly surprised if that's the case. To think what first party devs can do with that puts a big ass grin on my face.GDDR5 the one used in PC GPUs.
Going by the rumors it should be within 2-3 months.Lol, I forgot to put the "G" in there. Still, I'd be pleasantly surprised if that's the case. To think what first party devs can do with that puts a big ass grin on my face.
I won't believe any of this until we get some official confirmation later this year, hopefully.

I think this setup actually suits sony devs better and it could very well be their idea. Many sony devs are making more corridor based games where a super fa SD t RAM would come in really handy.Lol, I forgot to put the "G" in there. Still, I'd be pleasantly surprised if that's the case. 4GB of GDDR5 should be suitable for open world games as well.I think this setup actually suits sony devs better and it could very well be their idea. Many sony devs are making more corridor based games where a super fa SD t RAM would come in really handy.
Kagari mentioned that it will be unveiled before E3 and said this info came from reliable sources,so did aegies and the guys on Podcast beyond mainly colin who said the reveal should be around a couple of months later.? What do you mean

I would say the majority of console devs this gen went this route in general. I wonder how next gen will play out from a design perspective.I think this setup actually suits sony devs better and it could very well be their idea. Where exactly?I would say it was the reaction to starved RAM amounts.
Look at Infamous 1 & 2, as great as it looks... The lack of great RAM amounts hurts.
I see where you're coming from and I agree. Looking very much forward to more open world/sandbox games next gen. Trying to imagine a GTA/Infamous/Red Dead Redemption/Just Cause/Saints Row/Elder Scrolls/etc game with at least 2GB+ of GDDR5 in a console environment is quite exciting.I would say it was the reaction to starved RAM amounts.

$99 w/subscriptionI expect both PS4 and 720 to be expensive. For people crying that they are expensive then the system isn't catered towards you, go buy a PS3, 360 or WiiU instead. Of course in the future the systems will be marketed to you when PS4 Slim and 720 Slim come out.
Where exactly?
LOD pop in
AF problems
Only renders things 30 feet in front of the player. Everything else is blurred out and fogged.
A linear game like Uncharted 2 has a greater viewing distance
Lack of AF is due to lack of bandwith, not lack of RAM. 4 GB GDDR5 would be insanely good and fits into Sony's design philoshopy, as they were always big on bandwith heavy systems.
Also, what happened do "motherboard complexity" posters. Sounds like they're eating a gigantic crow.

Yeah and they were told that new and bigger chips were going to come out yet refused to believe that the RAM market wouldn't stay frozen. They [and I] were realistic. 2GB or maybe 3GB was maximum of possibility with 256MB chips.
I know how many Threads Durango's CPU has, what is the rumor for Orbis?

Even if it were shrinking they wouldn't suddenly halt all R&D on higher density chips. The crux of the issue was pretty much that people believed that 2Gbit chips were all that was going to be available for next gen consoles to use even though they were launching 2-3 years after those conversations were taking place.Several analysts predicted that GDDR market is shrinkingm and if I recall right, Samsung even announced that they are exiting GDDR5 business.
If Sony wants bandwidth akin to what GDDR5 provides (in the said amount) but chooses not to go with GDDR5 (or can't) -- what other alternatives remain? How many different ways can you achieve the above and, subsequently, which seems the most viable?
Roadmaps can change...

My dream for next gen is a game like Skyrim with no loading between environments. Basically open any door or enter any cave and it's all completely seamless. I'd take that over ambient occlusion or anisotropic doodads or any of that stuff.

Why dont we start a petition for the PS4 with 4GB of GDDR5 for games only and maybe even 1 or 2 GB system memory?
