We have a new Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance trailer

Man, I watched the cutscenes in Time Crisis. They're like 20 seconds each, top. Most of them less than that. They set a context and then they get out the way.

At least, on my first playthrough. The hundreds of other playthroughs I've skipped them

I'll never understand how people can playthrough a game skipping all the cutscenes. I understand they just want to get to the gameplay but at least let the game give you some sort of clue as to what the fuck is happening.
Did you play Bayonetta? Why the hell would I ever want to watch any of that?

Or Vanquish? There was nothing interesting to watch in those cutscenes other than Sam Gideon lighting up a cigarette.

Patch fixes the loading times, which are fine. The spotty framerate, awful tearing, and comparatively washed out graphics are the big issues with Bayonetta 2. But if it's the only way you can play the game, then you should play it. It's how I did.

From the future???

That and the gratuitous amount of ass shots (which were funny) in Bayonetta are reason enough.
It's obvious that it's all intentional.

And as mentioned outrageous cutscenes are half the fun in these games.
Still remember playing DMC while anticipating the next cutscene.

*shrugs* I just like watching cutscenes. I think that no matter how over the top or dumb the story is, they add to the game as a whole.

Vanquish is the only game I almost skipped cutscenes in since the story was incoherent at best and they cutscenes were terrible. Still, I'm OCD about not skipping cutscenes the first time through and this is a Metal Gear game so I'll be in for this. The cutscenes in the demo were much more Metal Gear than what's in this trailer. I'm really curious as to which is more of an accurate representation.

Funnily enough, Anarchy Reigns probably has the best cutscenes of any Platinum game.

I didn't know that it was possible to be more hyped for Metal Gear Rising than I already was. Then I watched this trailer...

Oh February 19th. Why are you so far away? >_<

"Deadly force is authorized"

* Puts gun away and pulls out stun rod *

lol wut ?

They want to enjoy beating the shit out of this wise-cracking military cyborg that just car vaulted through their blockade up-close?

I mean, the trailer is ridiculous, but this shit is a non-issue.

Why does a cyborg ninja wear high heels, are there shock absorbers in them for high falls or something? I would think you would want your whole bottom of your foot to touch the ground for traction and stealth. Or it was all explained in one of the MGS games and I drank that memory away....

I'm don't get it. Do people have this artistic entitlement that makes them think that watching Platinum cut scenes is beneath them?

please don't take a video game so seriously

Obviously, the game doesn't take itself seriously at all...why not just enjoy it for what it is?

The heels are like an extra set of hands. You can see in the gameplay he grabs onto the sword with them and adds to his arsenal of moves.

This was also in MGS4.

Nope, I'd rather just play the game.

But give me a break, I'm not exactly going out on a limb saying that the cutscenes in Vanquish are not worth watching.

Thanks. I think I'll hold on.

Yeah dude I'm done after this

I don't want to see anymore. Especially of any of the boss fights

The Ray one looked lame but I'm expecting the world of the smaller character bosses.

I don't get it. Do people not understand that others might not care at all about cutscenes or videogame stories and would rather be playing a game than watching it?

I'm not one to skip cutscenes or story stuff in games but I've played enough Platinum games to know that, outside of Nintendo, they are the worst in the business with story/cinematic stuff. It's so mind numbingly bad that you can feel your intelligence dropping as you watch it, so it's better to just skip it.

Now since I was just told that they're not the ones working on the story, then maybe it'll be passable for a video game. I'll even rent it to find out for sure.

I just took it as them being a bunch of sadists who wanna take their time and enjoy whacking the shit out of their opponents.

The cyborgs are a lot deadlier with melee weapons since they're enhanced to be able to hit really hard. Definitely more likely to kill someone that way, especially since Raiden can shrug off bullets.

It's a Platinum game, you won't miss anything. Everyone here is in it for the combat.

You'll miss insane over the top stylish SSS platinum cutscenes.

Seriously though, at least check em out the first time through. You might like them, no matter how "stupid" they are.

The cyborgs obviously need authorization to use their guns. You could look at it that way too. The mustached cop is a sadist though.

Weird use of the word entitlement, but I'll bite. Yes, many video game cutscenes are beneath me, especially in the Japanese action genre. I will watch them the first time so that I may judge the story fairly, and then I will probably never watch them again if at all possible. They just don't make me feel anything positive. I haven't cared much about insane over the top action choreography for a long time now.

Yeah arent all guns in the universe still equipped with some sort of authorization/ID chips? Serious question since I havent replayed MGS4 yet, and dont have access to the MGR demo atm.

Ah that makes sense, I was wondering how he was holding the sword and completely forgot about that part form MGS4. Thnks

Hey, you know who's a terrible voice actor?

Quinton Flynn.

Listening to him try to sound badass is embarrassing by proxy.

I wouldn't say he's a bad voice actor; he does good as Axel. Especially in a certain scene in 358/2. It's just he isn't really that suited for sounding bad-ass

That system would have gone out the window with the Patriots AI, I guess.

I can live with that. There has never been anything worth watching in a platinum game cutscene.

That'd be me.
